Galaxy Nexus 4.0.4 IMM76K Update Apparently Rolling Out in Small Batches

Yep, that is a screenshot of the 4.0.4 IMM76K update for the Galaxy Nexus that is apparently rolling out to a select group of users. Well, either a select group or in super small batches. We have a handful of readers who claim to have received the update, however, we keep checking with folks on Twitter and almost everyone is coming up empty. Keep on checkin’!

Update:  If you look through the comments, it certainly sounds like it is indeed rolling out to quite a few G-Nex owners. Settings>About phone>System updates!

Update 5/31:  The update is still rolling out in small batches from what we can tell. It’s about 50/50 for users finding the update available in the comments. I hate to say “be patient” but that’s about all we can say.

Cheers Steve, Sean and Joseph!

Is this update going to help me get more then 3 to 4 hours out of my phone with the extended battery.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Joe-Buck/100003482949493 Joe Buck

guess this shows you what a low priority this is for verizon

  • Dingus

Wow. The biggest irony in your post is that you can’t spell buffoon correctly, nor if, nor guarantee.

I suppose you are the uneducated buffoon now. It’s a good thing you make a living using your phone, hopefully for speaking because you certainly cannot spell.

  • Cloudy Shades

Just got the update and GNex is in process right now.

FWIW: Got first GNex about a week after launch, but exchanged with VZ for refurbished one about a week ago because of data connection issues and got tired waiting to see if software alone was the problem (never suffered from microphone issue). Located in Maryland, was on Wifi but not plugged in.

Also, tried the method described below maybe 10 times this morning to no immediate result, but after one more clear/force stop, letting phone sit without manually checking for update, there it finally was about an hour later. Don’t know if it might work for you, but worth a shot…

Once it opens clear data and force stop it. Hit home/settings/about phone/check for updates.
May take a few tries. I have not done this method but have read about it many times. Seems easy.
I only had to do it three times.

    • ChoppyCaller

Thanks, worked for me. Took about 3 times. Well, more like 8, but the first 5 times I forgot to hit clear data and only hit force stop.

I hope this fixes my call issues.

            me too.. =[

    • br_hermon

Didn’t work for me… I actually found this “trick” on several different websites. Some say it may take many tries. Well, after 21 tries, I gave up… More waiting for me…

*Edit* This may be unrelated but I doubt it. After trying this trick my Gnex is no longer listed as a device on Google Play’s website. It may show up again over time, but it’s worth warning people about.

      • Cloudy Shades

Well that’s an interesting development. Hope it syncs up soon. Google says there’s no way to manually add device to your Google Play account, but since doing factory reset before hasn’t been a problem, I assume clearing out that ‘google services framework’ data won’t be a problem. Just downloaded an app from Google Play on my phone, and that went off without a hitch, so I’m not really worried.

More info about Google Play device listing here: https://support.google.com/googleplay/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=1141080

        • br_hermon

Same here (downloaded an app from GP on my phone). I forgot to mention, on my phone, “My Apps”, several of the apps that previously showed as needing updated, are no longer listed (If I didn’t know any better, it looks as if all my apps are up to date). I agree with you, its probably not a problem, but figured it was at least worth noting.

    • Scott

Crazy you got it twice, when some of us haven’t seen it.

    • hushdrops

Holy crap it worked . On wifi, cleared, stopped , then checked update , last check status was then stated as 1969 following clearing framework, checked , update found . Ready to click on restart and install now . Major thanks !

      • hushdrops

Update completed , spell check is now working as I type this , landscape keyboard is still sluggish but useable. Hopes aren’t too high as this and speed of rotation were issues for me … so far no wins as I’m finishing typing this , darn landscape keyboard is Super Slow just as it always has been!! Signal is the same . Scared to try the camera .

No go for me after 5 tries.

Anyone get it yet in Northern VA, Washington DC area?

      Nope.

    • Scott

Nothing in the Baltimore region either.

  • Markuz

Small “Batches” that means 5 or 10 owners per state… F*** You Verizon!!

  • juniorsgv

totally time to start complaining. its been darn near 24 hrs, and still nothing. out of my group of 3 nexus’s no one has gotten update. and we all got several months apart.

  • Goatweed

Still no update here, NYC. What the hell?

  • http://www.facebook.com/aaron.martin001 Aaron Martin

Got tired of waiting so I rooted without unlocking the boot loader put the update on the sdcard and moved it to the /cache folder with root browser. Rebooted into recovery and flashed from there.

just did it 3 times, totally doesnt work..

      • JoeC

Did you hit clear data before force close each time? Try it a few more times. I thought I was getting punked with this method but it worked for me.

        • JoeC

And after clearing data, my system update screen would show last update of “12/31/69″ before hitting the check now button. So I new the data was cleared out from prior check.

          • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=508356379 Adam Ropic

well theres 10 times, no update :/ after doing the clear data+force stop, you go home then back to settings to check for the update right? thats what i did and didnt work..

          • JoeC

Yes, after clear and force stop, I went back home then back to settings and about phone. Then when no update, back home then apps to clear and force stop again. Occasionally, after clear & stop, I would go back to apps to make sure it was stopped (1 time it had restarted for some reason).

just saw this on a thread.. A guy on the VZW community just had this to say:
“I Have confirmation that the update went live yesterday and that it will be rolling out to all customers with in the next 10 days. It is released in batch based on phone serial numbers. If you have not received the update by then you can manually update by going into settings after day 10.” http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=26814064

  • Curious

I am stock 4.0.2 with unlocked boot loader and rooted. Still haven’t gotten the update. Is it because my boot loader is unlocked?

  • metakarma

Verizon CSR told me google is sending OTA update

Call bullshit on this coming from a Verizon CSR unless they were in the restroom.

will Verizon send me the update if my bootloader is unlocked & rooted?

Me want it now! I bet there’s someone that has no idea what this update is getting updated, meanwhile I’ve been spamming the damn “Check Now” button for months!

    • 4n1m4L

There are instructions for installing it manually without rooting. I did it. You do temporarily unlock the boot loader, but you can lock it again later. I just sign in, set up my home screen again and that was it

Remember Verizon only has 1 CSR to take calls they had to close all the call centers to pay the CEO his 100 million dollar salary and the only phone is in the mens room. Thats the reason they can only release to ten phones a day.

    • JenniferLarson

hey yellow, you should start your own cell phone company and show them how it is done.

    Thank you.

    • Scott

If you’re not rooted or running a custom recovery, it will eventually be pushed. If you don’t know what that means, it will eventually be pushed.

If I am running CM9 would it tell me theres an update? I just checked manually and it’s still saying i have the latest version. I’m curious to see if there’s any signal difference between running CM9 and the new stock version

    • InyRules

When running a custom ROM, your phone will no longer have official updates pushed to it. Your updates now come from the latest version of CyanogenMod.

      • pcguru30

makes sense.. so Im wondering if I have been having signal issues, but im running CM 9 with the leaked radios, is it wise to go back to this new stock or should I just wait for CM to incorporate this update into a nighly?

        • InyRules

Um, ARE you having signal issues? This is a bit unclear to me. But, if I were rooted and running a custom ROM, I wouldn’t go back to stock just to get an update. If there is anything groundbreaking for stability in the official update, developers will incorporate it into their ROMs. All you have to do now is flash the new radios. However, if your radios are fine now, there is no need for you to flash new radios. You can do whatever you want, which is the power of root :)

          • pcguru30

Sorry for the lack of clarity, Ive had my nexus for all of 3 days and the highest Ive seen my signal go up is 2 bars and that’s in places where my previous Droid X was getting full signal. Verizon says its not a phone problem and googling the issue it seems like signal problems are not uncommon with the nexus so if its not the hardware I’m left to believe its the software. I’m currently using the FC04/FC05 baseband that was leaked (before updating to the leaked baseband i only had one bar so it gave me a whole extra bar woohoo!) So I guess I really just need to know whether they updated the baseband again with this update, if not then I probably wont see a signal difference by going back to the new stock

i dont know if people have already tried this, but i read it may help push the update to your phone.. type in this in your dialer; *#*#checkin#*#* just type that in the dialer and after several seconds you will see a new notification that says “checkin succeeded”. You can run the checkin command as often as you want. i dont know if it will help, i’ve tried it myself a few times and it just keeps saying “checkin succeeded” in the notification bar.

    • http://profiles.google.com/adamtruelove Adam Truelove

After being an Android owner for 3 years, I can tell you this does nothing. Your phone will get the update when you’re due for it, no earlier.

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=508356379 Adam Ropic

damn, well i figured it was worth the try.. =[

        • http://profiles.google.com/adamtruelove Adam Truelove

Yeah, there are all sorts of tricks that you can do to make your phone get the update faster, but I’m pretty sure none of them work. The only way you’re gonna get it faster is if you download it, and apply it yourself by unlocking your phone.

  • Mario

Noob question here.. Do I need to unroot and go back to 4.0.2 in order to install this update?

    Thanks

    • InyRules

If you are rooted and using a stock 4.0.2 ROM, this will break your root. If you are running another ROM other than stock 4.0.2, you won’t even see this update prompt.

    • JoshGroff

To take an OTA you have to be on stock and maybe have the bootloader locked (at least you do with HTC.)

Root doesn’t matter but make sure to preserve with Voodoo.

    • http://twitter.com/fritzo2162 DougZ

Not a noob question- it’s being asked everywhere. I’m running 4.0.3 AKOP. If anyone knows, please post :)

I received the update this morning from Verizon. I’m happy to say the rotation lag seems corrected and I notice a faster response time. However, my battery life is still atrocious.

Can you go to Settings/About phone and tell us what your Baseband version is please?

Wait a minute. So this is slightly different from the version that showed up earlier this month. Mine is 09 V not 10 V

          • http://twitter.com/oldblue910 Shawn

No, that has nothing to do with the radio. That’s your hardware radio revision number. For all intents and purposes, there is absolutely no difference between V.09 and V.10.

          • http://profiles.google.com/adamtruelove Adam Truelove

            Gotcha

Please, please, someone who applies the OTA, post the Baseband version so we can can compare it to the update that showed up earlier this month.

    • Jeff

      It’s the same 1515.09 V.FC04/1515.FC05

      • http://profiles.google.com/adamtruelove Adam Truelove

Ok cool, thanks. I was hoping it wasn’t. I have applied the IMM76K that popped up last month and now my phone constantly switches from 3G to 4G when I’m in range of both a 3G and a 4G tower. Before this update, my phone would stay locked on to 4G all the time.

  • Toonz

Any idea if this improves the battery life??
