Galaxy Nexus Update IMM76K Approved by Verizon and Ready to Rollout, No This is Not a Joke

galaxy nexus update

Seriously, I do not even know what to say. But yes, the IMM76K Android 4.0.4 update for the Samsung Galaxy Nexus on Verizon has been approved. The support doc is live and that usually means that update will hit devices within a few days.

This is the same update that leaked in early May, was then pulled briefly by Google, and then resurfaced last week. We were told that the update would finally start to rollout in small batches last week on the 22nd, but it appears now as if it will start at any moment. As a refresher, this update comes directly from Google, however, Verizon clearly was taking their sweet time signing off on it.

As you can see from the changelog, they fixed a bunch of email and text issues, some calendar stuff, and hopefully, those pesky in-call audio bugs.

If you would like to manually update today, you can check out this instructional post. The update is approximately 39MB in size. More info.

Be sure to let us know the minute it pops up on your device!

  • Greyhame

Finally. Happy I didn’t wait for VZW to push it. Sad it’s the same as the leak; was wondering if the delay was for an even newer release, as I’m still having network issues in the fringe area I moved to. Curious as to how it could’ve taken SO long for VZW to give this the thumbs up.

    • Greyhame

I’m sure the community would’ve gladly helped share some of the testing burden to shorten up the delay. Plenty of willing recruits here at Droid-Life! Would love to hear Google’s thoughts on their VZW nexus.

      • Cowboydroid

They don’t consider it an actual Nexus, they’ve already told us that.

        • Greyhame

Understood, but this can’t be how they intended this to all workout.

          • Cowboydroid

I agree, and it’s probably a huge factor in Google expanding their Nexus program this fall and selling through their own site.

    • http://twitter.com/QSMinSD Q

In the grand scheme of things, has it really been that long? 4.0.4 went out to the GSM Nexus on March 31st I believe.. So it’s taken another two months for Verizon to get it ready for the CDMA GNex. 2 months isnt that long in the world of Android updates.. I remember my Thunderbolt had an issue where it wouldnt show the VM notification and that took AT LEAST 3 months to fix.. just a VM notification lol

      • Greyhame

Valid point. But not being able to place calls due to mics cutting out is a serious issue for a phone. There’s no excuse for letting that bug linger for that long, especially with a much more stable version already out in the wild.

        • http://twitter.com/jkc120 Josh Carroll

But at least for me, 4.0.4 doesn’t fix it :( Unless something in this OTA wasn’t pulled into AOKP b37…

          • Greyhame

Really? I’ve been running the leak and have had zero mic issues.

      • Mikeinatl

I disagree. 2 months is very long time when you have literally thousands and thousands and thousands of phones with critical issues such as random reboots, complete loss of signal, mic cutting out, etc. If they were just inconveniences and annoyances 2 months wouldn’t be that big of a deal. But with the problems with this phone, it has been too d@mn long!!!!!

      • cphilano

Yes, it has been that long. It’s been 2 months since the GSM update, but it has been 6 months since launch. You can’t just disregard the other 4 months because the update came to another version of the phone. We’ve waited 6 months not 2 months, and that’s a long time for an update to a smartphone that clearly had problems for a lot of owners.

Bout time. Not getting anything @1555 MST, Phx AZ yet. Anyone actually receive it?

Sweet. Now my phone will run more smoothly for the 4 hour battery life.

    • http://twitter.com/binglut9 Brian

      There’s always the maxx

    • chazzdjr

The update it great… Signal is WAY stronger. 10 hours today on 4G/3G & 18+ hours on WiFi (standard battery)… I havn’t had a reboot yet. I do suggest a Factory Reset after the update. It cleaned up a weird “sdcard” process that was constantly running.

  • achaf86

I’m glad to see that the update will finally get released, my gnex has been going nuts these past few days!! Hopefully i’ll get the update tomorrow!!

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Joe-Buck/100003482949493 Joe Buck

now that cant be true, everyone here always says how perfect it is,never a problem lol

      • achaf86

I know lol, my ex always bragged about his iphone how its the best phone ever!! Then it fell out of his pocket and the screen broke he blamed it on his otterbox I have dropped my gnex on the sidewalk with an otterbox on it and it works fine expect for now, I can’t open any apps.. so I have to do a factory reset Lol

        • http://www.facebook.com/people/Joe-Buck/100003482949493 Joe Buck

sometimes when i press the text message icon, the camera or something will start, have to reboot to stop it

          • rhdz

i’ve never had to reboot to stop it. have you tried going into the recent apps and swiping away the two apps.

          • http://www.facebook.com/people/Joe-Buck/100003482949493 Joe Buck

no,just rebooted, hope the radios are better, was on the beach and the only one with no signal was me, was very close to throwing it in the ocean

        • InyRules

Last night I hit the Google Music app, and for some reason it kept opening my XDA app. NO CLUE how/why that happened. A quick restart fixed it right up.

Pretty sure this was Motorola’s fault… AMIRIGHT?! Motorola rabble rabble!!

On a serious note, congrats applicable Nexus owners!

All manufactures smart phones with none replaceable batteries should be held accountable.

If and when my batteries kicks the bucket and I’m being forced to buy another
$700 phone simply because the battery is not replaceable, I will be
    filing a lawsuit ASAP.

If you’re not bitching about moto phones potentially getting updated “before” the nexus (which obviously isn’t happening), you’re totally dissatisfied with the updates you do get. typical nexus fanboi retardation.

    • http://twitter.com/QSMinSD Q

Cant please cell phone “enthusiasts” lol.. other than the OG Droid, has there been a single device these guys didnt hate incessantly on?

      • Jwhap

Droid incredible…. it did not get hated on much.

  • Waiting GNex Owner

    It’s a glorious day!

  • Haas

hmm would I get it I flashed to that other 4.0.4 build?

  • Jasonreloaded

Does this fix the radio issues? Like there are times where I just lose signal and it’s weird and frustrating.

you need to clear the framework and then try it again

  • thatguyx

Lol I just updated using the temporary root method yesterday… somehow I knew this would happen. Oh well…

    • http://twitter.com/QSMinSD Q

Heh, I used that method 4 weeks ago. Same thing happened with my old Droid Bionic. I got tired of waiting for months for the update and just installed the leak. Once the update came out, it was identical to the leak.

    • David Cosme Jr.

Do you know if this will break rooting?

      • Jwhap

        Yes….try ota root locker

        • David Cosme Jr.

Tried Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper. We’ll see if it works after the update comes through. Nothing so far.

    • KleenDroid

Good… You want to be rooted so you can take full advantage of what you have. There is no reason to sit around and wait for updates while most everyone else has had them for months. The roms are amazing for this phone and I don’t know why anyone is sitting around with the original software. Visit Rootzwiki, DroidHive, for some really good roms.

  • Prime7

Screw Verizon. After waiting and waiting for the OTA, I finally updated myself last week and will never wait for that crap again.

    • Droosh

      Now you’re learning Boyo.

I imagine the RAZR wont be seeing ICS until summer lol

  • AndroidUser00110001

Maybe the next update they can officially change the name from Nexus to something else. This is not a true Nexus device and Verizon just watered down the Nexus brand…

    • blu

true, but what are you going to do about it? “NOTHING!”

  • yellowcanary73

Took them 7 months to put this out what a joke. Not impressed no mention of fixing rebooting.

    • http://twitter.com/binglut9 Brian

Been running it for about 2 months now and my phone hasn’t rebooted itself once

      • yellowcanary73

Mine does every day even after removing everything and setting back to factory.

        • http://twitter.com/binglut9 Brian

Prior to the update mine eebooted a couple times since I applied update 0

          • Robbie Adams

I am not running the Verizon Galaxy Nexus.
I have it from Rogers and prior to it sitting at 4.0.1 for MONTHS without updates from Samsung or Rogers, (even though they had the update in their hands) I took the problem into my own hands and flash it to the Yakju build and 4.0.4 update and ALL the problems I had with the phone before (Rebooting daily, Low signal strength, Slow boot up time, slow rotation, poor battery life) have been fixed.

It’s a bloody shame that Google let Carriers and Samsung deal with the updates. This is a NEXUS phone and as such should have never been handled by the above mentioned.
With the update I FORCED myself…which was out already…The Phone is now A NEXUS PHONE and simply amazing.
It’s how the phone SHOULD have been at launch.

Google do not screw up the next line of Nexus phones with the same type of Tom Foolery you pulled this time around

…HOLY CRAP! Waiting for Verizon to replace that change log with a document saying nothing but….”jk bishessss!”

  • http://profiles.google.com/babybybusta Andrew Thompson

I’m going to wait for the problems to arise. I’ve been on the leak from a few months ago with no problems whatsoever. Not that I want it to be bad, I’d like to be on the same field as everyone else again.

  • King of Nynex

    Yesss!

  • tech247

I dont see a mention of the low volume issue that a lot of folks fixed with volume+.

  • SilentPatriot

Great! Now that that’s done and over with, there are many of us waiting for the NEXT update that will hopefully address issues still present in this 4.0.4 release; namely, the radio signal strength and switching, although better than previous, is still FAR from optimal…

    • http://twitter.com/QSMinSD Q

Nothing’s ever going to be perfect man. I have a GNex running IMM76, my girl has a Bionic, and two of my buddies have Thunderbolts. I’d say the network performance between the three phones is equal. If I dont have 4G, then dont either. If I’m in a dead zone, they are too. If anything Ive noticed the Gnex is quicker to swtich over to 3G. On the Bionic and TB, their phones will often say “4G”, but they wont get any data transfer. After about 30 seconds of trying, their phones will drop down to 3G while my GNex will have already done so..

      • http://twitter.com/binglut9 Brian

Exactly I think he lives in a shitty network area and he magically thinks the network coverage will some how be better from a phone update

Are you kidding me? Signal was never the problem it was the 3g to 4g hand off and vice versa….if you have shitty signal they can’t fix the betwork

  • BK

Talk about BS – I just got off a conference call with a VZW tech service supervisor and a Samsung tech supervisor, literally not even 15 minutes ago. Both said they had no knowledge of an update happening soon (or ever). They also said that there were few known issues for this phone, which I laughed out loud at.

Hopefully this update will actually do something. Like, for example, being able to hold a call without the microphone cutting out for more than 15 minutes…

  • mcdonsco

Figures…All these nexus owners running ICS for months bitching and moaning about not getting the .0.4 update meanwhile us on the Motorola side with the Razr(s) have been waiting a hell of a long time for ICS at all, tons of rom leaks, tons of “confirmed release dates” come and gone and we’re still waiting and VZW updates the crappy ass nexus?
I know, I know, Samsung vs Motorola – Still, come on!

    • Migamix

you may be missing the point… we are on a “nexus” device, you are not, we EXPECT to have the latest and greatest before its even made…. where is mah jelly bean damnit
so yes, we got our devices with that expectation… period

Verizon Approves update to the galaxy NEXUS? Seriously google this is supposed to be your product, not taking a backseat to verizon. Sometimes I wish they’d take an apple-like stance and control their nexus

      • Trueblue711

This is probably why Google is going to directly sell Nexus phones when the next one comes out.

        • BulletTooth_Tony

Won’t help on Verizon. CDMA is closed source. Kiss the Nexus goodbye.

          • http://www.twitter.com/helmes/ Henry

you are wrong. Just wait a few months. #nexusisnotdeadonVZ

          • BulletTooth_Tony

Nope. Not wrong. Unless we’re counting the Nexus 7 tablet, and it’s only LTE with absolutely no CDMA support. Without CDMA, a phone is useless. And since Google isn’t a licensee of CDMA, and has dropped it from AOKP… all CDMA radios are supplied by Verizon, and Verizon will forevermore control the update process for any phone released in the next decade until they finally turn off 1x voice.

          • robles1972

Google has nothing to do with AOKP. You mean Google has dropped support for Verizon Galaxy Nexus on AOSP.

          • BulletTooth_Tony

I installed the 5.1.1 update on my verizon ipad 2 and verizon iphone 4s over the air today. the reason i waited ’till now was because a stable version of the jailbreak is only now available for these devices and requires an update to 5.1.1

          • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=710725095 Jason Crumbley

Honestly, other than the Macbook that I’m using right now, no.
I haven’t touched an iOS device since the first or second gen iPod touch.

          • solomonshv

ok, that makes sense then. since the release of iOS 5 updates can be done over the air just like on android, blackberry, windows, etc.

      • WickedToby741

Verizon is the reason the original iPhone launched on AT&T. It wasn’t until Verizon came crawling on their knees begging promising Apple full control that they got the iPhone. Sadly, there’s not that kind of demand for a Verizon Nexus device, so Google still has to appease Verizon and let them have some control. Just be glad that LTE is a SIM-based technology so we may some day see a Verizon compatible Nexus that Verizon doesn’t get to get their greasy hands all over.

        • Tony Allen

LOL Verizon didn’t go begging to anyone.

          • blu

yes they did…verizon was loosing customers to at&t. I was about to switch to at&t, needed to get a smart phone; then og droid saved the day. now verizon is ruining it again.

It doesn’t improve the signal at all, at least not for me. I’ve been on the radios and AOKP-merged changes from this for weeks and the signal is the same.

      • http://twitter.com/binglut9 Brian

It wasn’t suppose to improve signal it was suppose to fix the 3g to 4g and vice versa handoff which it has…signal was never.the problem.

        • blu

signal is still the probl, and the 3g to 4g is still not fixed, no mention in the update.

          • Derek Rodriguez
          • Liderc

Signal may be a problem where you live but it isn’t for everyone, aka it’s not a problem.

The transition has always been the problem.

You’re just used to seeing 3G bars and DBM, so when you see actual 4G bars and DBM you think the signal is bad, but it’s not.

Tested my signal and speed against my cousins Rezound this weekend, they were literally within +-1 of each other and the speeds were exactly the same except my speedtest finished before his.

          • blu

wrong, in san diego we get 4g just the conection still sucks, my og droid at 3g is faster then my g nexus acording to speedtest.net

          • http://twitter.com/binglut9 Brian

Well obviously you dint have 4g

    • Mike

It does fix the random connection issues and the 3G/4G handoff issues that plagued the device before. It’ll also make it appear like there’s more bars, but the overall signal is the same.

      • Bodhiballer

What about handing off from Wi-Fi to cellular? IDK if that’s the same as the 3g/4g issue, but it’s the one I get from time to time.

  • http://twitter.com/kdkinc kdkinc

    Yawn Not again !!!

  • http://twitter.com/jkc120 Josh Carroll

Too bad it doesn’t fix the mid-call muting bug. :(

    • ayyyyyyyyyy

      it doesn’t? WTH!!

      • JoYu

Nope! Sometime I can go a week without a problem, then the next day I get muted 5 calls in a row. (Latest leaked radio with original leaked 4.0.4)

    • http://www.ashevilletechnologyservices.com Dan Brown

Unless Google sneaked in an update in this version of IMM76K that wasn’t in the May 1st version… that’s not unheard of.

    • KleenDroid

I’ve had my Nexus from day one and I wish I had a clue what you are talking about.

      • Ben Peterson

This is a huge issue for many of us. It seems to be a “regional” bug having something to do with towers and their communication with the Nexus. For example, I have this issue at home ALL the time, but never at work. There seems to be a large concentration of this issue in the Carolinas as well.

        • KleenDroid

I guess it’s like some of us were having dropped calls and poor signal while others said everything was fine. I do believe some of this stuff has to do with
Verizon and their towers or network. Hope they get things fixed for you guys.

I am a galaxy nexus owner, and I mean, I guess that might be exciting. And by that I mean, it’ll be exciting when AOKP merges any changes.

      They already have…

      • sahilm

I meant if there is anything different from the leak.

Unless they pull the existing file (again) then replace it and it has a new md5, I wouldn’t count on it. In fact, I’d say there is about a 0.0000000001% chance it’ll be any different from the leak. ;)

So the AOKP M5 already has this code? If I am on AOKP M5 and the latest radios FC04/FC05 then this update is already reflected? If so I can report awesome stability in the device with 4.0.4, great features with AOKP and I still have the one-way-mic-mute-while-in-call issue. If you have this issue STAR it on

It is pretty likely this will be identical to the leak.

      • sahilm

Yeah, my original comment should have been clearer, and that I meant if there are any changes from the leak.

Don’t you love how you get down voted for no reason?

This post is going to get down voted to hell.

          • sahilm

Oh well. As a redditor, I’m used to getting downvoted into oblivion.

          • mustbepbs

            Amen lol

Seriously, I commented something that, well, wasn’t trolling but a good comment and it gets voted down. Anywhore, I do hope AOKP updates by the nex milestone!

Holy crap. Now just release the Razr HD so I can give the Nexus to my wife.

As long as it is before they force you onto tiered data I will be happy.

Haha! No really, this is a joke right!?

    • ckeegan

Actually, it is kind of a joke considering this is a Nexus device, and it’s getting its first update in 5 months.
