and which camera outside of the iPhone 4s on a smartphone is nice? The reason the camera isnt as nice is the zero shutter lag, taking pics while taking video, and the panarama shot. To do all that they had to take a few hits. I have used plenty of smartphone cameras and outside of the 4S they are all horrible and I immediately go bck to my DSLR. The whole camera conversation is ridiculous. Yes it could be better, yes it isn’t great, but no it isnt unusable or that much worse than any other Android phones camera.

G-Nex still rules. No buttons on front is a true ICS experience. I like the grippy back. Panorama shots are cool, but the still shots could be a generation better. Needs larger aperture lens and/or sensor. Silky smooth and it just works. Even better when 4.0.4 comes to the stock VZW G-Nex. Google just gives the Nex that extra something that makes it special.

I never used the word professional. Actually, a cheap camera is better than a phone camera. It makes me sick when I see parents taking pictures of their children’s most precious moments with a crap phone shooter and uploading the blurry garbage to Facebook. Anyway, I think we are in agreement that GNEX is just fine for a phone. The only reason I posted anyway is because your comment about photographers having done nothing with their lives irritated me immensely.

Not at all. I’m saying that normal people don’t need professional photos, and the GNex has a perfectly fine camera. It’s not “subpar” because the par for a phone is way less than the par for a DSLR or whatever. To you, anything below a professional camera is fast food. But I consider those cameras to be fine french cuisine, and phone cameras are diner food good for most people.

I agree that none of the cameras out are “crap;” all the top end devices can take decent shots. I should clarify that by “pretty poor,” I mean worse than they ought to be; not that they can’t take a good enough shot to throw up on Facebook or whatever.

To me crappy implies on a scale of 1 – 10 the it’s producing <=5. I just don't see that from my GNex unless I'm comparing them to my DSLR. Comparing them to a RAZR and DInc2 (which are phone I handle regularly) I would say it's a 7/10 with the RAZR also being a 7 and the Dinc2 being an 8 or 9.

However to your other point I agree, how hard can it be to get some good glass and sensors in there for the premium there are charging now for these high end phones.

You just repeated exactly what I said. All phones have crap cameras. If you want a good camera, then use a real camera. Comparing cameras on phones is like arguing over which fast food restaurant makes the best burgers. They are all crap.
