I “was” a flash developer, but really for video its garbage compared to integrated hardware accelerated video. I do not miss it.

It doesn’t matter how much you try to change the internet, flash will be there for a LONG time to come. I would prefer everyone switch to HTML5 or something, but the entire internet might take a while to do that.

In the mean time, I would like to continue visiting the sites unable to switch. Don’t punish the users for this.

It boils down to this for me: By making it available it prolongs its use. Flash has been a bloated mess for years and it needed to be improved or it needed to die, and Adobe didn’t seem capable of actually improving it. People can be lazy and keep using flash because it is/was an option on some platforms. Apple never supporting flash on iOS was one of the best things to happen to the internet and mobile platforms – it killed it, it forced it to pasture like it should have been years ago.

I’m also tired of visiting sites that use flash as a crutch. While I admire choice and freedom (it’s one of the reasons I love android), the dependency on flash needed to stop and hopefully this is another step in that path.

Lots of websites actually do provide an alternative HTML5 player. In many cases, you have to activate it manually.

poll is misleading.

flash isn’t dead, it’s just not being developed any farther for mobile. I couldn’t care less that I won’t receive another update to mobile flash, but I do enjoy that flash is available.

You standardize something by removing competition and/or resources. If Flash is removed, the industry will naturally evolve to accept the new technology.

HTML5 is “out”. I develop it every day at my job. You would be surprised how many sites DON’T use Flash, unless we are talking about ads…but who the hell really cares about ads? Adobe acknowledges this with their development of Edge. Flash is dead as far as my industry is concerned. If you really need your fix – I can direct you to a few major, free porn sites that utilize HTML5 video.

As much as I hate to have to use it, there are still some sites that I need to use that use flash as part of their UI. So, not daily, but it is still very nice to have when you need it.

no way, most do not provide an HTML5 alternative yet. In the future, yes, most will.
