Hate to bash on sense but it looked very laggy and slow. Could be just the fact it is unreleased but idk. Sense just looks pretty, but its starting to go too far and be over kill. The transitions look annoying, especially the menu one. Also, why would they put 4.0.1 on it when 4.0.3 is out and is nearly the same. Whats up with the qHD display too? HTC needs to step up their game imo.

Understand that HTC could have added .25" of screen to the bottom of the phone to make it a 16:9 aspect ratio (instead of 5:3). That would effectively be a 4.9" screen without changing the dimensions of the phone. They could have ditched the hardware buttons for software buttons and still have 4.7" screen while having a 4.9" screen where advantageous.

Given the choice between a 4.7" with hardware buttons and a 4.9" with software buttons on identical phones, which would you choose?

Whats to understand? It's a 4.7in screen that's almost NEVER 4.7ins...and you're ok with that because you can put more crap in that space? No i can't tell you what the community would like, all they give a crap about is resolution and bootloaders apparently...not like they drive the cell phone market anyway so that's frankly irrelevant to the OEMs...
Sure they disappear when you're watching a movie, and? the Sensation XL for example already has a smaller bezel, 4 capacitive keys, and a bigger screen all the time. And eventually more devices will follow. So then whats the advantage of having on screen keys to most people? I'm not saying it's a liability, but I can't fathom why anyone would prefer them to such a degree...if you just like it because you like fine, but otherwise I'm going to have to assume you just didn't weigh all the cons or don't care about some of them.
And I've never heard of capacitive soft keys failing on any device so I've no idea where you're going with that, I'm more worried about being attacked by a shark, in the middle of Idaho.

On topic:

The 2D feel of the animations awfully looks a lot like Windows Phone 7.

The "pressed" state looks like the element gets pushed back in space and floats back up to the screen, instead of glowing "blue" in ICS.

The screen transitions resemble blinds that, one by one, flips from the side of the screen. Again, much like how tiles in WinPhone7 transition.

HTC can really do a lot better than this.

Do you really not understand? Even if it is only effectively 4.4" it is still bigger than the Razr AND you can still watch content on a 4.56" screen.

You can not tell me that if moto would have removed a portion of that bezel by making the screen bigger and adding soft keys that most of the community would not be happy. They would even have an option to have the same buttons on the bottom row to where the looks would hardly even change! They could even give there users the right to change them if they wanted. The options for soft keys are endless and I have a feeling their chance of "failing" is much lower than physical soft keys.
