Samsung Wants You to be “Obsessed” With Their Products, Targeting Summer Olympics for Galaxy SIII Launch?

How many things in this world do you consider yourself to be obsessed with? Are any of them tech products or companies? Some would argue that the folks at this site are obsessed with Android, but I still don’t think anything compares to the love affair that individuals have with Apple. And that’s not meant in a hateful way, it’s just clear that certain groups of people are so passionate about Apple products that they will do some odd things to make sure you know it. Samsung wants you to be that way with their products.

According to Samsung marketing executive Younghee Lee who sat down with AllThingsD, the Korean electronics company is ready to “change people’s attention.” With consumers in the U.S. being “obsessed with Apple,” they want to engage consumers at the bottom of their heart and for them to love their products in return. Lofty goals, but if anyone can do it, it would be Samsung who has been gobbling up Android and worldwide smartphone market share like no other company over the last year.

On a related note, Lee also mentioned that Samsung will use its sponsorship of the Olympic games to launch a product for the first time. While she refused to mention which product that may be, I’d bet you can come up with pretty good guess. The Galaxy SIII was originally supposed to be unveiled at Mobile World Congress next month in Barcelona, but rumors have it getting pushed back to a later date. I can’t think of a better time to announce your top product of 2012 than while the entire world is glued to TVs, watching a 2-week long telecast. Can you imagine the amount of reach we are talking about, here?

Samsung will also have a spot at this weekend’s Super Bowl, however, it is expected to be for the Galaxy Note.

So tell me, ready to obsess over Samsung? Are you obsessed with any tech company, for that matter?

My guess is that the Galaxy S3 will be released in the later part of the year, the best way to market in the new age is let the consumers build up the hype by releasing rumours for months while the manufacturer Samsung in this case sits back and gets free advertising.

Boobs. Very much obsessed with BOOBS. I cannot imagine ever feeling the same way I feel about boobs with any company or product. As much as I love Android, it in now way rivals my obsession with BOOBIES!

As long as it still has touchwiz, I will never obsess over a Samsung phone.

    -Posted with my Galaxy Nexus.

  • RoccoMartino

Hurry up Sammy, I can’t wait to dump my Galaxy Nexus.  The slow CPU, 3 year old GPU and crappy radios are killing me.  I am sure the S3 will have excellent CPU/GPU, hopefully the radios will improve as well.

    • Anonymous

Slow?  What phone you can buy today in the US outperforms it?  Especially on Verizon.  And don’t spout benchmarks, I mean in real world usability.

      • RoccoMartino

        Galaxy S2 (Exynos), iPhone 4S…

        • Anonymous

For casual gaming and everything else about the phone I don’t see any phone out today that performs significantly better, including those two. Not saying they are equal, but not noticeably faster. Plus neither of them have LTE and the Samsung with LTE doesn’t have Exynos so not a good direct comparison.

          • RoccoMartino

CPU/GPU performance was the comment.  Somehow you translated that in to LTE.  You do realize that even though all have 3 characters they are different things, right?

Keep moving that goal post, r0lct, you might eventually win.

          • Anonymous

Sorry I confused you by moving from a single thought/comment to a full fledged conversation. Obviously you use the forum strictly for one liners.

  • Vi

They want to be the new Apple, which i can’t see happening anytime in the near (or not so near future).

For one they need better brand awareness outside of Asia and the techie circles.

Forming an emotional attachment to a product or company is normal to a certain extent but to the rational and mature mind there are limits. I love the Andriod products that i currently own but i’m not married to them and i would switch in a heartbeat should something eles come along that better suits my needs. The ifans mentioned in this artical are a different breed to say the least!

    • Josh Groff

I have a G2X, a Sensation 4G, and an iPhone 4. If something new comes along, I just might sell them to buy it.

  • http://fujibayashi.jp/ Gasai Yuno

“Some would argue that the folks at this site are obsessed with Android” sounds a bit incorrect.

“Obsessed with Nexus and Samsung in general, and with mindless bashing of certain manufacturers” is more like it.

  • Anonymous

So let me get this straight…Samsung is bashing the “isheep” by making ridiculous videos poking fun at apple fans yet they want you to obsess over their products the same way that apple fans love apple….hypocrites much?

  • KOBALT

If it wasn’t Samsung, I would want it. However, I’ll still consider the Asian chic’s butt.

  • Jim McClain

well putting a 5 mega camera and a crappy speaker in the nexus is not going to make me love you samsung…   DO YOU HEAR ME SAMMY  ??????

    • http://www.sfneonline.org SFNE Online

Camera was more so Google’s decision.

    • Josh Groff

The iPhone 4 has a 5 MP camera and takes better pictures than my Sensation 4g and G2X, both with 8 MP cameras. It’s all about camera quality and drivers, pixel count isn’t much.

  • Chris Sandoval

    Im ready.

  • http://twitter.com/afghanbacha420 Afghaner

Samsung earphones are just waste of space! My Samsung Galaxy S, SGS2, SGN and Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 all have the same earphones and never fits in your ear. I have to purchase Sennheizer earphones

    • Josh Groff

That’s a bad thing? I’ve never had a pair of prepackaged headphones I actually liked, always went with Skullcandy headphones.

  • Andy-roid

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.  We’re making fun of them (Apple) today but we (Samsung) are the ones obsessed with being just like them.  Samsung products are great, not perfect but for the most part very solid and leading edge.  What I don’t like is when the say “obsess over us”!  People already have their prioritys out of whack.

    • Anonymous

      Exactly……

      • Noyfb

and its nice to have a product not made in china

        what she said?

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=797475274 Nadeem Najib Kizi

I’m obsessed with Google. They don’t rip people off, and they are great at everything they do.
Sure they start services that end up shutting down, but they say only 16% of the innovative projects succeed, and when Google’s projects succeed, they are amazing.

And..even though I have never owned a Samsung phone before, Samsung is my favorite manufacturers. I go to the Verizon store to try phones out from time to time and it feels like as if Samsung’s phones function and look much better. The 4G Droid Charge is probably the only one I disliked from their line. I like the Galaxy nexus, the other nexuses of course lol, and the Galaxy S phones ( they are always very high-end and who doesn’t love that?). I LOVE huge screens ( and that’s why I bought the Droid X..first phone to come out with a big screen) and with the specs that the Galaxy Note has, I can tell that it will be a phone that I would like to try.

    Other thoughts:
Motorola – Great hardware,  bad updates…(>.> Droid X updates SUCK), too many bugs, bad software overall…..and don’t forget how fast they release phones.

HTC/LG/other manufacturers – They don’t have something that would force me to pick their phones over others. Sure, HTC just unlocked their bootloaders, but I would still go for the Galaxy Nexus rather than theirs. I love their beats audio feature and how the beats headphones come with the phone ( with 1 yr warranty).. but, the feature only works on the built-in Android music player, and I don’t use it that much since Google Music is much better.

    Sincerely,
    my opinion.

    • Jordan Webb

HTC was responsible for the previous Nexus phones.

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=797475274 Nadeem Najib Kizi

HTC made the Nexus 1, Samsung made the Nexus S.

    • Kierra

bad updates ? Moto is better than HTC in that regard

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=797475274 Nadeem Najib Kizi

I would still pick HTC over Moto, Moto Blur slows down my phone so much, it’s absurd.
I have tested all the skins, as I said, I go to Verizon’s store from time to time to check out the new phones.

Also, as I said to Kierra, as for the experiences I have had with Motorola, their software updates blow. It took them over like 8 months to release Gingerbread, and it’s so bad ( for the Droid X)! My phone reboots like once every two days, my keyboard lags every day and sometimes I can’t even answer calls because the sliders would not even move, or just freeze.

The gallery sometimes doesn’t even open up, I would have to exit out to homescreens and reopen the gallery. Sometimes when you take a picture with the camera, it doesn’t even save it ( and I forget that it happens..so I get home and realize it didn’t take it..) or I would take 1-2 pictures and then tells me, Camera is currently not available, Try again later..

        • Anonymous

GB was was released in Nov/Dec 2010, and the DX was the 1st phone to receive it in May of 2011. GB actually made my DX better. With Froyo, I was getting random reboots, camera problems, stuff like that. After GB update reboots disappeared, not a single one. I did have occasional problems with the gallery, nothing that a simple battery pull couldn’t fix. I have never had any issues with missing phone calls because of the slider unlock.
Motorola is fastest with updating their phones. HTC is bad with updates, almost as bad as Samsung. I believe the Droid Charge is still stuck on Froyo. That’s unacceptable.

          • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=797475274 Nadeem Najib Kizi

Charge is on Gingerbread, and I must be just unlucky, because I have replaced my DX twice already, this is my third one now…and I gave up  on replacing it..The phone I have now reboots almost everyday..in fact, it just did like an hour ago. Not rooted, nothing..

          • Anonymous

Really?  Well I’ve checked two sites, VZW and Amazon, and they both advertise the Charge with 2.2 Froyo. Even Samsungs page lists it with Froyo. But anyways, I think it’s time you upgraded your phone.  If you are on the old New-Every-2 plan,  you should be able to upgrade to a new phone now.  Since they stopped offering those plans last January.  If not, talk to Customer Relations, not service about upgrading early due to defective phones.   Worked for my step-mom.

      • Josh Groff

But HTC actually rolls out fixes in a timely manner. Also, could just flash a custom ROM if it truly bothers you.

    • Kierra

Sammy doesnt even bother with updates lol

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=797475274 Nadeem Najib Kizi

Whether they do or do not with their current phones ( excluding the Nexuses of course), the phones they have with the operating systems they are running, they function very well.
I have a Droid X and I have replaced it twice now, thinking it was my hardware, then I realized the random reboots, sliders lagging, keyboard lagging etc were all cause of the stupid buggy update they released.
And don’t forget, Samsung supports developers.

    • Anonymous

How can you possibly obsess over phones that you’ve never owned?…and the EVO came out with the 4.3″ screen before the DX

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=797475274 Nadeem Najib Kizi

Well, yeah but I’m speaking about Verizon’s phones :)

    • Josh Groff

Sense 4.0 read about it. That beats will be incorporated in all programs.

      Sincerely,

      The internet

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=797475274 Nadeem Najib Kizi

Well then it will be a tough choice between the upcoming HTC Sense 4.0 phone ( obv, it has to have other good specs) vs the next Nexus phone :D. I’m like a music addict, so if the feature makes a huge difference then it will be worth considering.

        • Josh Groff

Same here, Sensation already has sense 3.6 ported to it, just waiting on that 4.0. Also, It’s supposed to have better dropbox sync. :)

  • Brianblackmer

Is that a target on her chest?

  • Anonymous

Sorry Samsung. You lost my business years ago with shoddy phones and proprietary data connectors. The only Samsung phone I owned or encountered that was worth a damn was a SCH-8500. I went through several warranty replacements of both the SPH-A400 and SPH-A500; I became a regular at the Sprint store and that’s not a good thing. Then there’s the whole proprietary connectors for their WM6 phones when everyone else was using Mini-USB for charging and data. And what genius thought the send and end buttons should be placed on the sides of the SCH-i760; it was so easy to hit the wrong button when trying to pick up the phone when it rang.

Samsung gave me Haterade to drink. After the jugs of Haterade made of crappy quality products and poor decisions, I refuse to give them anymore of my money.

    • Josh Groff

I had the gravity 1/2, both were great phones, but HTC had the best smartphone (Sensation 4G) when it was time for my upgrade.

  • Kierra

I dont like Sammy’s apple clone style or the plastic Lord have mercy the plastic but I see there are ppl that do. Have at it

    • Josh Groff

Plastic has a smoother feel, anyway, just pop a case on if you’re that paranoid.

Samsung, I’m obsessed with your product, galaxy nexus. next time make a better battery cover that sits firmly flush to the back of the device.

    • tjmonkey15

Or put in a bigger battery to fill the extra space…..

  • trumpet444

Isn’t this the sort of thing they were making fun of with their “dude, you’re a barista” commercial? Blindly obsessing over a brand? Come on Samsung, you can be better than this. No matter what the specs, bootloader status, rootability, etc, etc, etc….. If a tech company gets a large amount of blind followers, they tend to get lazy. (see 4s)

    • Josh Groff

You’re right, see Atrix 2… Now class, what have we learned today?

      • Anonymous

        See Droid X2
        See Evo 3D
        See Droid Bionic
        See Droid Inc 2

        • Josh Groff

X2 changed a lot of the internal components, sure it looks the same, but it changed pretty immensely, also, so did the 4S (whereas the atrix 2 kept most of the same specs and just got a better camera and a different SoC with the same clock speed.)

The Bionic and Evo 3D never claimed to be upgrades of previous phones, so they don’t apply here.

However, the incredible 2 wasn’t noticeably superior to it’s original, so I can agree there.

  • http://www.facebook.com/jonathanf Jonathan Fingas

The irony: Samsung’s ads are all about making fun of eagerly waiting in line for a product and loving it for irrational reasons, but that’s exactly what Samsung wants.  It sold Galaxy S II phones at a loss during the iPhone 4S launch in Australia to artificially generate a lineup of its own.

      Samsung got Samsunged!

      • Noyfb

should also put unlike apple made in china, samsung made in korea

    • http://www.facebook.com/tiffanyasapun Tiffany Ennis

Ironic? Maybe, but lets face it, its what every company with a product wants.

  • http://twitter.com/GoldenCube Toys Samurai

First of all, simplify their product lines so that it’s easier for non-geeks to fall in love. Next, get rid of those names that nobody would ever remember. Thirdly, many people who want to love Samsung are people who don’t want to carry products that look like iSh*t — don’t make something even remotely look like Apple’s products.

    • Anonymous

Looking like Apple products is the main reason Samsung is the most successful Android manufacturer….

  • Guest

    Obsessing over phones? Please.

    • KOBALT

You’re on the wrong site, buddy

      • Guest

There is no reason to obsess. To desire a superior product and to discuss products is not obsessing. Stereotypical iPhone user is obsessing and Samsung wants you to be as fanatical over Samsung as iPhone users are over Apple.

    • Josh Groff

Carriers and manufacturers are what most obsess over, I’ll just buy the best phone out and go to that carrier. Good stuff.

I bought an LG plasma and it crapped out on me in less than 1 year so I got angry at them. Sony, same thing. My Samsungs have all lasted. I have a 55″ LED, 50″ Plasma, 42″ LCD and 46″ LCD in my home. All running strong and looking great. *knocks on wood.

They have a long road ahead of them to overtake the Apple obsession in America, but Samsung seems to be the only company releasing stand out products recently and not just smart phones.

Their TV’s are also at the top of the market right on as well, so Samsung’s definitely on the move and hopefully we see them taking on even more markets in the future.
