the only thing i do not like about my original transformer prime is a video glitch that looks like static every now and then! i hope the video chip is not failing already? other than that it kicks samsung tablets butt! my sister has one! asus did this to me shortly after i bought mu G73jw laptop too! came out withe G74 and now the G75 model! but i still like asus build quality better than anything else I’ve tried!

  • 2010Clubman

I just received notification of my TP delivery tomorrow and saw this post, so i went to the ASUS website at for VIP escalation issues at http://vip.asus.com/eservice/cus_suggest.aspx , and in a professional manner, told them that i was an early adopter, was about to receive the TP when they made the announcement that they will be upgrading (read: fixing) this tablet with an upgraded one in just a few month’s time. That they should give a turn in/upgrade path to those of us that purchased the original TP by turning it in and paying the price difference, otherwise i would be returning to my retailer and looking to purchase from another manufacturer.  Hey, they listened on the bootloader issue (unlock still hasn’t been released though), maybe with enough complaints and threats of restocking their inventory, they will listen agan.

so how does a RMA work? how long do you have to return a product and how to get one?

  • Ryan C

I’m a little frustrated that there has been like no outreach to customers who bought the faulty designed product via pre-order. I mean it was their fault they placed the GPS and WIFI antennas where they put them paired with an all aluminum encasing.. and it also would be completely fine to have an all aluminum backplate if they moved the antennas directly under the front glass like how it was done on the ipod thouch 4. Thats how they got away with an all aluminum backplate with no plasic window! At the end of the day, i love my prime and i think its a beast for the price, however i still feel under-compensated and cheated. I mean they turn around and instead of offering a return or fix, just release a whole new tablet with the fix it should have had to begin with, and for $100 more. We as buyers, especially pre-order-ers, should at least be able to have a discount or at least only have to pay the extra $100 for this tablet in compensation. Just something, anything, IMO.

    • Lainiek46

Hi Ryan : I agree, I had the same experience and returned my pre-order to BB! I am so disappointed about the hype and then to hear all the glitches, I returned mine tonight!

I thing we pre-orders should be compensated and why send something out with so much going wrong
      Lainiek

      • Ryan C

Thank you. I have a feeling there are more people that feel this way. I don’t really want to return mine, i’d just like some acknowledgment of the issue with a plan to amend it.

And my Prime comes in in 5 days…Thanks ASUS! Kellex please get some hands on pics and let us know what’s up because I’m intrigued as to how much better this will truly be.

    • Dewey Sm
      • Anonymous

Wow! Thank you for finding and sharing that! I was unable to find anything that good! Luckily I think the revision of the tablet looks cheap compared to the original, so as long as I am able to receive wifi properly home and away, or else with rooted phone present I shall indeed keep the metallic spun Prime. Thanks again!

      • Anonymous

Hey! I don’t know how I missed it last night, but with the (God it kills me to say this) Original Prime does it have a “Developers Options”? I just went over Kellex’s review and I surely didn’t see it there…I wonder what that entails…

  • http://www.facebook.com/coryteague Cory Teague

so all the people that rushed to pre-order the prime and get ASUS’ name out this holiday season are now unable to sit from the rather harsh a$$ rape the company just gave us. Surprising… didn’t know it could hurt this bad from an “asian” company. i am pissed.

    • http://www.facebook.com/coryteague Cory Teague

btw ASUS… Lenovo is looking mighty good these days.

  • Anonymous

I don’t see anything about GPS on the Prime specs. Are you sure that there is an upgraded GPS on the prime or are we assuming because this primes GPS is grouped with the Wifi/BT radio?

  • Anonymous

So I’m really frustrated that their fix to the GPS is to release a new tablet. But, for $100 doesn’t entice me for something with a fixed GPS and better resolution.

If I could get it for $50 I would cancel my pre-order and wait, but $100 is too much.

  • Anthony

Will someone explain how this is not illegal? They release the Transformer Prime with issues that are hardware related and they are refusing to fix it. I am calling for a law suit against them. I ordered my Prime on friday and I am returning it now as soon as it arrives. Also just a theory but, could the reason for the lack of Transformer Primes be that the production of the new model has taken over and replaced production of the older model? The least ASUS could do is send us new back-plates to fix these terrible issues.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Michael-Binsley/100000090972765 Michael Binsley

By the time Asus gets enough stock built to accualy fufill the orders for the TF700, we will be talking about CES2013.

  • ShopDroid

False advertising on GPS, encrypted bootloader and now this?   Wow, Asus, you are really working hard to be hated, aren’t you?   Good thing I sold both primes that I pre-ordered.   Now I have $200 extra saved up for ipad3.   Enough of all these Android tablet fiasco for me.   Still like Android better, but it’s just a real mess now.

  • Anonymous

YAY! MY PRIME ORDER GOT DELAYED!

  • Anonymous

Wonder if this is going to be Google’s Nexus tablet Eric said is coming in the next 6 months just rebranded and some minor spec changes.

  • Mjsplicer78

Have they fixed the bootloader issue, since that’s what’s keeping me from buying it

  • http://twitter.com/55938 MrSix

    Hahahahahahahahahahahahaha!

  • Anonymous

399$ for the 101, 499$ for the 201 and 599$ MSRP for the 700. Take what you need!

  • http://twitter.com/Skitz_Marz Alex Gandero

im glad i didn’t get mine yet! selling the original transformer to my friend and waiting for this bad boy

  • Rlarson_mn

Movie of the TF700T! Better return those original Primes and wait.

  • Stating El Obvious

haha, all the 11 year olds will now start petitions to make asus replace their transformer primes with this one…

  • Sick of the Haters

What is wrong with you people?  Its like no matter what happens, you people aren’t satisfied.  My Prime works terrific with WiFi.  Don’t know about GPS cause I could give to turds less if it works at all.  I’d prefer the aluminum over the plastic because it feels like a sturdy peice of hardware.  The changes Asus is making is not worth the extra money in my opinion.  The prime I have is an amazing device.  You people just can’t be happy with what you got.

    • Dewey Sm

I bought my prime and expected full functionality, the gps is a big deal to me in my line of work (working on cellular mostly in the middle of nowhere) using the navigation feature that came with the tablet when set to satellite view you can see pretty much everything thats around your location thanks to google maps.

  • Anonymous

Asus took a page out of Motorola’s handbook

  • Eric Franca

It ran on my crappy little netbook pretty well when I tried the dev preview. The problem I think will come with support of this particular ARM processor, from what I’ve read.

  • Eric Franca

Curious…what good is GPS on a tablet without 3g or 4g? Are you navigating around on wifi? Is the art of locating yourself on a map lost? I heard the wifi problems were mostly a nonissue as I have seen many people mention the problem only to say that their wifi was connected strongly. Anyone know where I can find a link to purchase all the RMA-ed Primes when people overreact and spend an extra $100 for full HD?

    • http://twitter.com/dcemu_bandit Timothy Yee

       Ummm…WIFI Hotspot?

      • Anonymous

What does GPS have to do with a Wi-Fi hotspot?

      • Eric Franca

Yes, what does a Wi-Fi Hotspot have to do with GPS? Can you navigate around with the wifi hotspot? I suppose you could tether to your phone, but then you might as well use your phone. I guess if you didn’t have a smartphone and you did have some kind of MiFi, then it would be useful. Certainly these people are in a minority.

        • Dewey Sm

i have a MiFi that i was using with my prime before it back to Asus its only $15 per month unlimited compared to what ATT wanted for the tethering feature plus the data plan, .50 cents a day for unlimited data cant beat that.

  • Anonymous

    Nexus tablet hypebeasting?!

  • Anonymous

HAHA!  Prime owners just got Tebowed!

  • Lmrojas

lets start a social network sh*t storm for a recall.

  • Haproot

Why are people surprised lol?  They were talking about this a couple months ago.

  • DanSke

Where is the 3G/4G model?! No one gives a flying f**k about Wifi. These tablets and the prior one blows, majorly.

    • Michael Forte

Actually I’d say most people care about wifi versions. You can just tether your tablet to your phone, who would actually want to pay for data on a tablet, especially when it’s tiered and ridiculously priced?

      • DanSke

Maybe so, but I could just tether a data plan to my mobile plan for cheap, wouldn’t have to worry about running down my phone battery (which sucks as it is and its even ROM’ed -Bamf Forever), all while having service where ever I go without having to search for wifi and/or a password.

        • Eric Franca

Some people like having 3/4G on their tablets. I think there are at least as many people that would rather pay less and have a Wifi tablet. My Droid X does the job just fine on the go. With a tablet this big, I’ll rarely the chance to use it on the go when my phone is on hand. Then again, that’s just me. Everyone has their needs.

  • Morris Shasho

complete BS. I thought ASUS was different but I see they are just like the rest.

  • Anonymous

They should up the ram to 2GB so we have hope to put a Win8 port on there when it arrives later this year. LISTEN TO ME! =)

    • Eric Franca

Why is 2GB RAM necessary for a Windows 8 port? I would be extremely interested in an android/windows 8 dual boot tablet after windows 8 comes through the pipeline.

      • Anonymous

I think 1GB is minimum, and 2GB is recommended. I’ve never run anything on the minimum requirements, but I bet it ain’t pretty.

      • http://twitter.com/starnovsky Stan Tarnovsky

Windows 8 is based on Windows 7 (not WP7) and Win 7 likes RAM (1GB is barely adequate for it). Yes, I believe MS did a lot of optimizations in Win 8, but it still should like extra RAM.

  • Haproot

This is what I was waiting for..  Hopefully it’s unlockable.

  • Anonymous

so anyone who got the original prime are being screwed here?  what the F is up with these companies plowing under their customers?  they should be recalling the original prime and handing these out…

  • Anonymous

Wow talk about a punch to the gonads! Barely even launched and they dangle this in front of our faces!?

  • GCurry

IMHO, there was nothing wrong with the specs for the OG Transformer Prime.   The display resolution was sufficient (at least for me).   If it had been a Transformer 1, with Tegra 3, the display it had, plastic backplate and a high-quality ICS port in January at the price offered, it would have been a runaway success.  We had a design problem (aluminum) and a failure to execute to expected quality.

  • http://twitter.com/nicholasjnorman N. Norman

    WTF!
    Is this really happening?
ASUS can’t even produce/stock the Prime TF201 fast enough and now they have a new one announced. This is some BS!

  • Chris G

I’m torn between furious my new prime is outdated already and loving the fact i’ve had hands on it since before xmas and honestly love it.

  • DroidVoid

Amazon JUST charged my card this weekend and moved the delivery date on my 64 GB Prime to this week.  Funny how timing is everything.  I’m kinda pissed. But i’ll live… still a great tablet without the upgrades but damn. :-/

  • Anonymous

    ………good thing I didn’t get the Prime! :D

  • Monty Waggoner

    Whew, good thing I waited.

On second thought, looks like I might be able to snag a deal on an Open Box return.

  • http://twitter.com/OptimusIM Olatunji

WTF Asus Im returning my prime thats some bull

  • Anonymous

Wow.  Makes me wonder if Asus actually has such a project in the pipeline, or if the internal discussion went something like this:

Minion: “Boss, we just heard from our employees on the CES floor that a competitor has a HD tablet on the way.”
Boss: “Who cares, our brand new Transformer Prime is at least 720P.”
Minion: “No, we mean actual HD – 1920 x 1080 or more.”
Boss: “O RLY?  Who dares one up our Prime?”
    Minion: “Acer”
    Boss: “Who?”
Minion: “Acer, you know, they bought Packard Bell.”
Boss: “Whatever.  Ok, here’s the plan.  Push out a press release that says we have an HD tablet on the way, too.”
Minion: “But we haven’t even started working on one!”
Boss: “Who cares.  Just say it’s coming Q2.  The end of Q2 is six months away!  You know with all those suicidal drones that Foxconn can make anything in six months.”
    Minion: “But isn’t this dishonest?”
Boss: “What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas.  Now get me an escort.”

    • Monty Waggoner

      Awesome :-)

      Nice

    • EdCenter

as soon as you started the roleplay, I began rolling my eyes.. but after reading… very nice :)

    • artsr2002

      Moar!!! LOL

  • EC8CH

So is the new backplate still metallic?

    • FortitudineVincimus

No chance, no way, no how…. UNLESS they cut some windows in it for antennas. And I bet they just realized the whole metal back was bad.

Problem was, they should have known tis BEFORE selling it to us. I, like most, naturally assumed that if they were selling a metal backed tablet they had the issues figured out and addressed in the design. NOT.

      • EC8CH

Yeah, it was a pretty crummy deal when they were like, “oops, our bad. Never thought you guys actually wanted the GPS to work.  We’ll just take it off the spec list for ya.”

  • Bachinphx

Another mfg. hyping up the “latest greatest” only to admit an “oops” and leave all the first adapters hanging holding their “packages” low and to the right!

    • PSU_DI

most if not all first adapters are well with in the return period.   I’m just happy to hear the Asus has seen the need to fix the issue and also update the specs of the device this shortly after a launch.

      • FortitudineVincimus

There are even mentions of an extended 6 month warranty/return period added to the Prime due to the GPS fiasco. I made sure to call Asus when I first got mine and noticed the GPS issue on Dec 23rd to get it on record I was not happy. I got an RMA but did not use it…. yet

        • Ryan C

That is when i got my prime too..the 23rd. What is this RMA?

  • http://twitter.com/superchachi Charles Rutherford

Did they mention how we’ll know that a standing order at Amazon will be filled with the new version?

    • FortitudineVincimus

bwwww ha hahaa .. you cant be serious?

  • EC8CH

    Wow… on so many levels

  • Anonymous

So, I should cancel my pre-order on Amazon that hasn’t shipped yet, and wait for this to come out?

    • FortitudineVincimus

They didn’t listen to us, they snubbed us. Their extent of “listening” ended up with taking the complaints and making a new device and trying to remove GPS verbiage from all specs.. not addressing ours.

      • Anonymous

though if it was a hardware defect that crippled the GPS, short of recalling all units, I’m not sure what they could have done. A price reduction to make up for the lack of GPS abilities would have pleased me though.

  • Xray49er

II got a prime for Christmas and love it by time this comes out there will be another new hotness I will stick it out with my prime

  • GCurry

Sent my OG Transformer Prime back after 2 days.  I’ll still consider Asus’ for the tablet I end up with, but only after actual customers review full product shipments.   No more pre-orders for me.

    • Anonymous

looks like they jumped on the XYboard boat as far as “missing the sweet spot” for pricing.

  • http://twitter.com/BlueSpud45 James Thein

Lessons in pissing off your customers: release a new version a month later.

    • FortitudineVincimus

I fully understand that tech moves fast and products come out quick BUT in this case, they have not even been able to fulfill original Prime orders and now this? Wow, what a total cluster f***. The Prime JUST came out weeks ago and now a replacement?

I will ride my TF201 out until this comes and then maybe try to return mine under the GPS issue as I have an RMA in place from week 1 – December 23rd – when I got my Prime. ANd I say “maybe” as I want to see this actual device.

      • NotAPrimeOwner

I think you guys mean 6 months…It’s not coming out today, it was just announced.

      • Dewey Sm

check your RMA they are usually only good for 30 days

    • Stating El Obvious

Android users must generally be pissed off people.

  • Tmooey

Andddd my original transformer prime is outdated. wow that was quick…

    • Postdante

      yeah, they’re getting crazy…

    • http://www.joshbroton.com KillaPenguin

Not really… this is $200 more, plus I bet 4 hours of battery life with that GPU having to run hot all the time to power a 1080P screen.

        only $100 more

WOW this is outrageous! Ill take the restocking fee from BB

      • Butters619

BB doesn’t have a restocking fee anymore….they (very) quietly eliminated it

        • Anonymous

yesss!!!! Thanks I really hope this is the case. Does anyone remember when the extended holiday return period ends with BB?

          • Butters619

            January 24th I believe.

          • Anonymous

Nope i switched out my macbook air because of a display issue and luckily i went in yesterday and they said it was only 14 days after xmas not till january 24th like many BB employees told me so yesterday was the last day. they might give you let you return it if you say one of the employees said it was january 24th like many of them told me. January 24th was only for accessories apparently.

        • Lainiek46

I returned mine tonight and had the best returning experience ever. Would buy from BB anytime again, no questions asked!

    • Michael Forte

      They pulled a Motorola.
