Verizon Announces Two New 4G LTE Tablets from Motorola Dubbed DROID XYBOARD, White DROID RAZR – All Available in December

A couple of announcements out of Verizon’s camp just popped into our inbox, making some previously rumored devices official. Both Motorola DROID XYBOARD tablets are now official in 10″ and 8.2″ sizes. The white DROID RAZR that we first reported on a few weeks back is as well. All three devices will be made available later this month, although no specific dates were given, we have seen some potential dates as of last Friday.

The DROID XYBOARD tablets will run on Verizon’s 4G LTE network, have 1.2GHz dual-core processors, 1GB of RAM, 5MP rear cameras, 1.3MP front cameras, and Android 3.2 (Honeycomb). Both will see an upgrade to Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0) in the near future. Motorola’s MotoCast software is also included to give you access to your PC files from anywhere.

Pricing is as we reported back in November:  10″ model – $529 (16GB), $629 (32GB), and $729 (64GB), 8.2″ model – $429 (16GB) and $529 (32GB). Those are on-contract prices; full retail were not mentioned.

The white DROID RAZR is exactly the same as the grey and black RAZR, but has a white edge around it. You can find pictures of it after the break along with two more XYBOARD shots.

  • Jeremy Turnley

Wow, that all just makes the Transformer Prime look all that much more attractive.  My 6GB hotspot-enabled phone plan will make it just as fast as these for the same cost, with a lot more speed.  Way to go, being overpriced and behind the curve, VZW!

  • Sirx

Nearly every last bit of this post is EXACTLY why, in the public arena, Android is not taken seriously in competition against Apple, except by Android enthusiasts themselves.

Truth hurts.  So do these announcements.  *smh* ~~_

  • Duong Vu

It’s interesting to see all these negative comments on a pro-Droid site.  I remember how everyone used to be so enthusiastic and supportive of all the Droid-related rumors and releases; and now the one thing we’re most excited about is not even a Droid (Nexus!!).  And every time Motorola releases something new, it gets (rightfully) trashed on this site.  I think it’s a testament to how out-of-touch Motorola has become.

  • Jake

So still no official word on the Droid 4 I guess?

  • http://www.linkedin.com/in/PhilHamlin Phil Hamlin

Any word on when we’ll be able to get our hands on blindtype, the awesome-looking Google acquisition of yesteryear?

    http://www.droid-life.com/2010/10/01/blindtype-acquired-by-google/

As I have always said, this is a device functionally between a phone and laptop computer. Therefore the price should be between $249 and  $399 as you can get a decent laptop for $399.

    • Sir Lawrence

But not a laptop as thin and light as this thing. You’re paying for the compact form factor. Sure as heck isn’t free.

  • Ufcjeff

rather get transformer prime than xy a better deal

  • EricPitt01

Not impressed.  More Motorola outdated specs.  This would have been amazing 6-9months ago.  5MP camera?  Really?  Come on, most phones have 8MP now.  I’d pay maybe, and I mean maybe, $200 for that with those specs.

  • Anonymous

    1. Disqus sucks ass. 2. I think Verizon is underestimating how popular the Nexus is going to be. I’ve talked with a number of individuals who were faaaaar from tech savvy… yet knew about and were interested in the Nexus. This is going to be a sleeper hit once people start seeing it out in the wild.

  • Weebeethem

    MotoFail!

  • Anonymous

Verizon can’t possibly be that oblivious.  They have to know that no one cares about this.

  • Anonymous

and whats with the prices? $729 for a tablet, and what ever happened to removable storage?

  • AC

google needs to do motorola mobility a favor and shut down production before they completely destroy the moto name

    • AC

and droid name for that matter

  • Anonymous

These tablets and their pricing are laughable…. is Moto TRYING to fail????

  • Interstellarmind

    i’m totally done with motorola.

as far as tablets? asus padphone’s where it’s gonna be at.

  • http://www.gadget111.com/camera-recorder-c-31_83.html Spy pen camera

This is an interesting find and we expect to hear more on these tablets any day now as Verizon has clearly stated they will be released in December.

  • Anonymous

Like I said earlier, they are not going to put any advertising behind the Nexus, this is exactly why the first one got dropped for the Droid incredible.

  • Ufcjeff

i take it the next tablet will be the  xyz board lol

  • AC

i predict not a single xyboard sells at that those prices with those specs. keep wasting time and money moto.

    • Anonymous

i would honestly rather buy a xoom at the price its at now. what am i missing out on, blur, a stupid name and squared edges? whats the point. i may as well be getting that beast of a tablet asus transformer.

      • Anonymous

        trolling like always lol

        • Anonymous

its not trolling when its literally completely true. its the same goddamn thing.

          • Anonymous

You dont get your facts straight though.

  • Anonymous

its the same as the original xoom but with squared edges and blur. what reason is there for this device to even exist?

    • EC8CH

      no round corners EVER!

  • http://twitter.com/HowdyFellers Inspector Butters

now now its not all bad. maybe this will drive the price down of the xoom so you can pick one up for under $300

  • Bill Mitchell

A white razr, fantastic!!! Now the gigantic bezel will be even more noticeable. Wonderful.

  • Anonymous

    that’s HARDLY a white RAZR…

    • Anonymous

Yeah, it’s more like a white trimmed Razr.

    • EC8CH

that’s actually what makes it kind of cool looking

      • Jeremy Turnley

I agree, it looks better than the black, and as anyone who has used a white iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch can tell you, white around the edge of an LCD in bright light is HORRIBLE on your eyes.

  • http://twitter.com/shehippie shehippie

    *sigh*

  • EC8CH

I’m not normally a fan of white phones, but I’m not gonna lie… that white RAZR looks pretty nice.

Not too much white, just enough to give a little contrast.

    • Anonymous

The best comment that you ever made lol.

    • Anonymous

theres no need to censor the word IPHONE, no one does that anymore. we all know what it is. this is not necessary. its just an IPHONE.

  • http://twitter.com/sky_walker24 Kyle Walker

You kidding me? Maybe the real announcement will come today too

    • Enigma2u

I know believe with all my heart that vzw regrets signing up for the nexus and someone after the fact realized since it couldn’t be vzw bloated out that they pushed it as a side product launch like it was irrelevant to them their profit margin isn’t like all the other phones so they probably just treating it like a step child ….I honestly see the scenario playing out with a simple press release on Wednesday saying galaxy availability on Friday no preorder online just saying …eh its here but play with our white razr while ur in the store first while ur fighting with the rest of the crowd for the ten phones per store orders watch lol

      • Anonymous

oh i’m sure this is just to shut people up and so they can just put the checkmark in the “developer friendly carrier” column once and for all.  then they can get back to making sure people are using blockbuster and let’s golf 2.

  • Anonymous

Do they actually think they are going to sell those tablets at that price WITH a data plan?!? Are they out of their minds??

    • Anonymous

It’s hard to imagine anybody picking a xyboard over a Transformer Prime.

  • http://www.facebook.com/DaveCalzone Dave Calzone

Love how Verizon cares more about Motorola than Google/Samsung’s Galaxy Nexus. Why even carry it If you’re not going to act like you give a damn. Stay classy Verizon.

    • Anonymous

it’s cause motorola does their bidding without question

      • http://twitter.com/marc_pgh marc ross

Doesn’t Google own Motorola’s mobile division?

        • Anonymous

yes but it changes nothing. google just leeches off of moto’s profits now. good job google.

        • Anonymous

they’re about to.  but they haven’t done anything with it, and they’ve stated they’re not really going to do anything except let it run, business as usual…..

  • Anonymous

BionicBoard more like it.  Too late to the party when quad-core is about to drop.

  • Dan

    XYBoard… XY = Man

    ManBoard?

Still doesn’t quite do it for me – though with a look like that, what self respecting woman would even be caught with it?

  • Anonymous

Boy that white RAZR is really sharp!

    • Anonymous

I would love to get my hand on the white razr. That is a masterpiece of hardware :)

  • http://www.facebook.com/spdivr1122 Stephen Wagner

lol remember when people cared about this?
ps. verizon get your act together

  • http://twitter.com/DaCatalyst Clayton Anderson

Let the Pandemonium ensue!….smh….Not the G-Nex? Two tablets with LAST YEAR’S specs. That’s not what we wanted to see. I’m ready to go egg and toilet paper VZW headquarters!

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=25001493 Hank Godwin

The Moto tablets have almost identical specs as the G-Nex.

  • Anonymous

way to go verizon.  two more ridiculously named tablets that no one wants to buy from a carrier.  they’ll look great on the shelves.  and a white RAZR?  who cares?

  • U Mad Bro? No But Your Mom Is

I hope that Moto’s big guns don’t think that these ridiculously stupid freaking products are what is going to get them their big Christmas bonuses this year. Although, I probably would pay them just to change the name of the XYwerereallystupidandhaveobviouslyranoutofideasfornamesBoard.

    • U Mad Bro? No But Your Mom Is

I mean, I LOOOOOVE my Xoom, but it’s been almost a year since it came out. These specs are crapola. You change the corners, throw blur on it and give it the worst name it product history, and think that people are going to want it? Umm…perhaps consult with Asus on your next tablet Moto.

    • Jeremy Turnley

Dude, they got their big Christmas bonus from Moto for promoting these things, they don’t need to actually sell any of them.

  • Anonymous

#fail my respect for moto keeps going down

    • Anonymous

not to stick up for moto (we all know they don’t deserve it at this point), but at least i think it’s verizon that renamed these tablets from the xoom.. they’re still the xoom overseas.

    • Anonymous

lets leave the hashtags on twitter where they belong ok

  • Anonymous

At this announcement, did anyone there notice the elephant in the room that did NOT get announced ???

Hint:  begins with N, ends with s.

    • TROLOLOL

      Nuffaluffagus?

    • Anonymous

To be fair, they didn’t give exact dates.  Just like the Nexus would be released “before the end of the year”.

    • Anonymous

don’t give them anymore leeway with names..

    • Anonymous

      Napkins?

  • mike

Is the bootloader locked on the tablets?

    • http://www.droid-life.com Kellex B

I’m going with more-than-likely. We got our unlockable device with the XOOM, these puppies have to be locked down.

  • TROLOLOL

“Introducing the Motorola XYBoard – With a name so bad, it’s too lame to fall into anybody’s hands.”

  • http://twitter.com/LucasJohnson14 Lucas Johnson

    XYBOARD is ugly!

  • Anonymous

    Yea, white Razr.
    Ha, no Nexus.

  • Anonymous

    Noting about the Nexus :(

  • Anonymous

    and the elusive Nexus????????????????

  • http://twitter.com/lediva LeDiva

Hm, I can pay $629.99 for the XYBOARD 10.1 on-contract, or $499 for the Transformer Prime, which matches or beats it in every spec except for the 4G radio. Also, no contract on the Prime.

  • StormFreak

Wow… the pricing on these is a mess. $529 for a 16GB 10.1, and I have to sign a 2 year data contract? Yet, for 499, you will be able to get a quad core, 32GB Transformer Prime… I think VZW really missed the mark on this.

    • babadush

They have to know what the mark looks like to miss it.

    • Sirx

First thing I thought, too.  They are so far outside of their minds on name and pricing of this that it begs the question of just what are they trying to accomplish :-/

    • RINZLER

Exactly my thoughts. I’ll be enjoying my Prime and Nexus thanks.

  • Mctypething

Obligatory post about how the name XYBOARD sucks….

    • Anonymous

But you can’t deny it is pretty bad

      • http://www.joshbroton.com Josh Broton

I’m almost sure that’s exactly what he just said.

        • Anonymous

          Yes…yes I know that

  • Franklin

How the f@&^ did XYBOARD make it through marketing?  I know it’s been said a thousand times, but that is one of the worst product names in the history of product names.

    • Anonymous

it makes “Rezound” look like a stroke of genius.

  • U Mad Bro? No But Your Mom Is

XYBoard. Siiiggghhh……….I tell ya, my unborn son could come up with a better name than that. Just stupid.

    • Chewy246

First post where I have laughed in a long time!  Thank you for the morning funny

      • U Mad Bro? No But Your Mom Is

:) I must admit, Moto made the  crack that they’re going to get from this one too easy.

  • Anonymous

motorola just doesnt get it…… Their pricing is ridiculous

  • B0ss

thank you, Verizon, for the announcement no one cares about.

    • OG Droid

Verizon sure knows how to kill the droid brand

      • Anonymous

they’re driving it off a cliff lately.  we’ll be seeing the droid turd drop in january, followed by the droid turd HD in february.

        • Anonymous

I personally can’t wait for the Droid Turd X Turbo HD Remix Jar-Jar Binks edition. Should be here in March. Was previously looking forward to the Galaxy Nexus, but I don’t want to wait that long.

          • Anonymous

            hahahaha Jar-Jar Binks edition.  awesome

    • http://twitter.com/cuban_boi JonMichael

      XD hahaha^
