Verizon Galaxy Nexus Poses for the Camera Again, Couple of Verizon Apps Loaded

Needing a late night Galaxy Nexus fix? Will that pretty picture do the trick? One of our fine friends just sent over the shot above, along with a side view in hand and a look at the stock set of apps that we have included below. As we saw during a set of Google G-Nex videos earlier in the month, a couple of Verizon apps have made the cut:  My Verizon and Backup Assistant. While we would have liked for the phone to have come completely clean, these two are somewhat acceptable as our readers seem to have made it clear that they do utilize them from time to time.

Pretty slim LTE device, I’d say. It may not be DROID RAZR thin, but it isn’t anywhere near the tank status that some of the rest of Verizon’s LTE lineup has hit. This is one of the first times we have actually seen the LTE version of the phone in hand – not bad.

And lastly, here is the screenshot of the app drawer where you can clearly see the My Verizon app hanging out.

We will have the boot animation shortly. So you know, Verizon apparently hasn’t touched it. It’s exactly the same as the GSM version and doesn’t even include a VZW 4G LTE splash screen or anything. +1

Update:  A quick video that shows the device in hand, under the battery cover, and the boot animation has been posted here.

Cheers ___!

These comments have me rolling on the floor laughing! lol

      ROFL???

  • Anonymous

I wonder if it requires a special case because it’s a little thicker than the GSM version…

  • Brandon

whatever… I will be buying this phone but only because I can not get the note for verizon.  The 4.3″ screens are bigger then we are used to but still small for browsing the web.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=25001493 Hank Godwin

If the Note became available on Verizon this month as well, I would definitely buy it too.  Since it doesn’t seem to be coming anytime soon, the Nexus will have to do.

  • http://twitter.com/psykotikz chris grame

Kell, I dont know if you’ve stated something about this yet but you said video/camera samples today didn’t you?  =  i’m dying to see..

  • Brandon

the big bummer in my mind is the screen is acutally only a 4.3″ but gets a little bigger when you watch a movie (funny thing is the only movie I will ever watch on is will be porn)

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Justin-Giles/24615546 Justin Giles

      foul bachelor frog…

      gets phone with bigger screen.

faps all day and all night

  • Spc Hicks09

    Who cares anymore? NEXT!

  • Brandon

this phone is about the same size as the rezound. not big at all

  • Anonymous

Please just let it be released…I want to go to the Verizon store and compare the size the my ThunderBolt, just to make sure it’s not too big. I want it so bad!! Most likely gonna get it for X-mas :)

  • Daniel Archibald33

Ya`ll are pathetic. I swear some of u have no life outside of ur phone. Verizon will release it when they release it. Personally I’m running te RAZR unrooted and love the features. U can uninstall most bloatware on the razr from the app tray. I have been getting 18+ hours of the battery between charges with fairly heavy use. No complaints here and unlike the nexus my phone actually has metal on instead of cheapo plastic

    • Dfhy

      You mad bro?

    • http://twitter.com/droid1967 Droid 1967

we have waited for the phone we want while you jumped on a non removable battery encrypted bootloader  whos is pathetic?

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Justin-Giles/24615546 Justin Giles

Booom!!! “18 hours with heavy use my ass”…. I swear I opened it like once and it lasted for 18….

        derp

      • Anonymous

Some of us CHOOSE to buy a different phone.  Personally, I would have bought the RAZR if the Nexus came out the day before.  I just like the phone better.  I’ve never used an extended battery on any phone, ever.  I only ever ROM’ed to overclock, which isn’t needed on these phones.

This place is like politics!  It doesn’t matter which side you are on except when you are on the ‘wrong’ side!

    • Jared

      How’s about NFC?

    • Stewie

No problem bro, you can enjoy GB on it until the G-Xex 5 comes out, then maybe you’ll get an update to crippleblur …

    • http://twitter.com/dtriscari19 David Triscari

Some of us can only afford to buy one phone, on contract, at a time. Sorry for finally being able to say its worth it…….

Im waiting with a HTC Ozone….

    • Anonymous

i got the razr as my rental phone until the gnex comes out. simply put, i hate the razr. it’s clunky and the motoblur skin annoys me to no end.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=25001493 Hank Godwin

…huh?  The Nexus has a metal chassis. Try again.

    • Daniel Archibald33

I only wrote this to see if I could get a rise out everyone and it worked in my favor..

No I’m not mad. Motorola is my favorite manufacturer. The OG Droid is a legend. The RAZR runs circles around the nexus. Razrs blur doesn’t affect anything. Its seamless and ultra fast.

Samsung has some good technology, but its not my cup of tea.

And the way I’m setup on Verizon, I can upgrade to latest and greatest phone by may of next year. I upgraded to my razr the day it came out

  • Tyler

Hopefully 8 more days! Looks like there is no/really_small hump on the device either which i guess could be a plus. I don’t really care about the bloatware because of ICS disabling feature. Can’t wait for this phone! Galaxy nexus fix for the night is satisfied :)

  • Smo86

Galaxy NEXT! I’m already bored of this phone. Too much hypebeasting. What else we got?

    • Spc Hicks09

Tell ‘em !!! So sick of hearing about this overhyped waste of technology.

      • Guest

then why do you come in here and read about it???  doesn’t make sense??

        • Anonymous

          This is 1bad69z28 aka guest

  • Anonymous

It looks like even chintzier plastic crap in that image for some reason. Is that the delay, they have to make the version we get as chintz-rich as possible?  :(

The NS looks better then GS

  • Anonymous

would be more happier if there was a release date somewhere up there…

  • http://www.twitter.com/helmes/ Henry

I was dying! Thanks for the crack!! :) I know I have issues!

  • http://profiles.google.com/amtorres92 Tony Yorres

thats why ics has an option to see your data usage. You dont need my verizon! it defeats the purpose of the PURE google experience which is the nexus. If this comes out on verizon then they need to change the name of the phone!

    • Dan

If you don’t like the apps you can disable them! That feature is built into 4.0 as well

      • Kaufkin

Until some Carrier (*cough* Verizon) decides to disable that feature…

not trolling… going to buy that bad boy the second it’s out, then wait to see what Pete / CM come out with.  the “Bloatware” I’m worried about is Carrier IQ. that is evil code.

        • Stewie

VZ doesn’t use it, Giz is an apple fanboy, anything remotely negative and they jump on it to bash Android, look at their title, it didn’t say all phones, just Android …

    • NexusNow

Wow.. People will always find something to bitch about… My Verizon app is an easy way to manage your friends and family numbers, bill and usage. Useful app for sure. If those are the only two apps Verizon (king of bloatware) put on this phone then I am amazed, vanilla or not! Be happy, lifes too short to always be pissed. The only complaint I have is no release date, but in Verizons defense they never announced a date so technically the phone is not “delayed” yet…

  • booboolala2000

Why would anyone use. Vwrizon Backup Assistant? All your contacts are backed up by Google. Redundant app that probably harvests your contacts. And the My Verizon app works about twenty percent of the time. God I hope these are uninstall able. If not I will make sure not to enable either one. Good to have the heads up. Thanks DL.

    • http://twitter.com/CallOnColin Colin Huber

People moving from non-android devices find Backup Assistant helpful, at least early on.

  • Anonymous

    Does it have Carrier IQ?

    • Stewie

VZ doesn’t use it …. yet.

  • OG

doesn’t faze me if it has 2 carrier apps…still wanting to get one!

  • Deejay

that side pic scared me to death. this looks as thick as the thunderbolt wtf?!

    • Anonymous

Don’t worry, I felt the same way at first too. It isn’t a straight-on side shot, perpendicular to the screen (which is hard to do when you’re holding it). You see a little bit of the front in the picture, and you don’t really see the back’s curve. It’s thinner than the angle in the pic.

  • mikeym0p

It looks as if the battery cover isn’t on all the way.

    • Anonymous

Its a Samsung dude, you’re only supposed to look at the screen ;-)

      • palomosan

Nothing that a case wouldn’t resolve, that back is ugly but I’ll take it.

  • Anonymous

Why does everyone assume the MyVerizon is preloaded?  With VZW’s new tiered data, people want to know how much data they use, and the MyVerizon app tells you that.  Unless you see a true unboxing and power on and it’s there, take a chill pill on the preloaded apps rants, guys.  Jeepers.

    • http://twitter.com/droid1967 Droid 1967

its been confirmed that those 2 apps are in the test units roms.   they are there.  the backup assistant will take a hike but i use the my verizon app so its cool.

      • Anonymous

Test units != final shipping ROM.  The ThunderBolt had an LTE on/off toggle on the test and review units even a few days before release, and it was nowhere to be found baked into the OS for months.

    • http://twitter.com/JamesZ5 JamesZ

ICS has a data usage monitor built right in.

    • Tyler

There is a built in data manager in ICS that will tell you which app is using data, how much and can turn off data when either you notice a misbehaving app that you can turn off background data for it or turn if off when  a the specified limit is reached, such as when you reach 2GB of data. As for bloatware, I could care less due to the ability to disable an app in ICS. Disabling I believe stops data usage, removes from app drawer and stops it from running, which too me just mean that its using some of my storage, but I’m used to low storage from my OG Droid so that is not an issue either for me personally. With 16GB and/or 32GB models it will be a lot more room than the less than 512MB of app storage I’m getting now. So unless these features get magically removed by Verizon (might rage a bit if so) I’m not too concerned.

  • http://twitter.com/_elemenopee_ Kavin Nguyen

Once you root it, you can delete those apps easily. I don’t understand why people complain so much about bloatwares. Just delete them. BTW, I have a feeling they’re gonna let us pre-order tomorrow.

    • Anonymous

i agree, but it’s the principle of the thing. typical verizon…all would be forgiven in my book if they’d just make a damn announcement.

    • Anonymous

not everyone roots their phones, though.

    • Jared

You have a feeling? LOLz. I hope you’re, but I’m gonna rate your “feeling” a 1 on a scale of 1-10..

      • EC8CH

is tonight gonna be a good night

or is it gonna be a good good night?

  • Goblueboy

My Verizon isn’t bloatware though. It’s probably the best app Verizon has given us.

    • Anonymous

yeah, but it wouldn’t be that hard for them to allow the user to download it instead of deciding it was necessary for all of us.

      oh. and urban meyer.

      • Goblueboy

Oh look another ohio state fan living outside of the present. 58-43-6. No urban meyer can shit on that

im pretty sure its the same as iPhone 1….

        • Anonymous

You misunderstood my comment. Goblueboy said MyVerizon is the best app Verizon has given us, and I compared that to saying that the iPhone 4S is the best phone Apple has made. Both statements are saying it’s the best of a shitty group.

You guys, Kellex included are hilarious.  I know you specifically are being sarcastic, but it’s like DL forgot that they featured this: http://www.droid-life.com/2011/10/27/backup-assistant-to-be-introduced-with-the-droid-razr-500mb-of-free-cloud-storage-through-verizon/
and ripped on My Backup Assistant(Which is on the RAZR and I hate, is so obnoxious until configured).

Whoever called out the site the other day saying something that’s negative on other phones is a feature on the Nexus was right.

It’s just ridiculous that suddenly “these two are somewhat acceptable as our readers seem to have made it clear that they do utilize them from time to time.”

      • EC8CH

        agree.

        myverizon is barely acceptable

        backup assistant is not

hopefully they will be unistallable without rooting but I doubt it

      • Calculatorwatch

I see your point but I still think having only 2 bloatware apps on a Verizon Android phone is a pretty amazing feat compared to the rest of them. If Verizon ever releases a phone with no bloatware on it I will be nothing short of astounded.

      • http://www.droid-life.com Tim-o-tato

Don’t see how anyone could possibly complain.  This phone comes with an unlockable bootloader.  You can get rid of any bloat very quickly if it’s that much trouble.  Try to look on the sunny side of life my friend!

        • Anonymous

I’m just making light of the light hypocrisy is all.  I really don’t mind bloat at all(though backup assistant and v-vid or whatever it is piss me off).

It’s just funny that bloatware sucks bloatware sucks bloatware sucks oooooops nexus has bloat bloat isn’t so bad.

          I’m not upset!

    • http://twitter.com/LiveInTheDream litd

Nah. That app constantly runs in the background. Check Battery Use and Running Services.

  • Anonymous

There’s nothing to say those two VZ apps aren’t uninstallable – maybe they just preinstalled them but you can uninstall through manage apps like normal, that makes the most sense to me.  I can’t believe Google would actually let them put them in the ROM.

  • http://profiles.google.com/amtorres92 Tony Yorres

NOT A NEXUS IF IT HAS CARRIER BLOAT WARE!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • mikeym0p

Be happy Google is commanding the updates

      • Anonymous

Has anyone gotten confirmation of that? I know, I know: it’s a Nexus. But, it also has carrier branding – “never on a Nexus.” And it has preinstalled non-Google apps – “never on a Nexus.” And it’s on Verizon, who has always mandated that “there will be no firmware on our network that we have not tested and approved” – a carrier who has never had/allowed a Nexus. Google has already clearly made quite a few (albeit small) concessions to VZW with this device.

Especially with source.android.com telling devs “GSM/HSPA+ Galaxy Nexus is currently the recommended device to use with the Android Open-Source Project,” I see no reason why the VZW G-nex could not be to Nexus what Milestone was to Droid — looks the same, but treated very differently.

Of course, this is just a fear, and I sincerely hope it turns out to be ill-founded. If anyone has anything conclusive that indicates otherwise (i.e., someone at Google/Samsung/VZW publicly saying so), then PLEASE let me/us know. I’m sure it would ease a lot of minds to know that, other than those few concessions we already know about, this will be a true Nexus experience.
