Well if you do install the OTA it most likely will patch the current root exploit. Which means you'll no longer have root. Without root you can't run the bootstrap to access your nandroid backup. Just a word of advice if you want to keep root NEVER accept an OTA until it has been looked at by devs. In most cases there is a rooted version available of the OTA within a very short time. Then you can flash that in clockwork and have the latest firmware with root.

Hello Silksmooth12,

This is the first step in creating the ability to run Custom ROMs on the Droid 3. And I agree somewhat with your point in that the average user may find this somewhat boring. But, as a developer, I like having an easy way back to my previous state. I actually use my real phone for development so having a working restore is key.

The main issue is to determine how the Droid 3 community of developers wants to proceed and load their custom init files for their ROMs. Once that's been determined, I'll configure the Bootstrap to support as many of them as feasibly possible.

For starters, the next version of the Bootstrap will support default update.zip extraction method that Cyanogenmod uses.

So I'm rooted running the official stock ROM. If I back install this bootstrap and recovery, and backup my current ROM 5.5.959, could I theoretically install the leaked update, and if I can't upgrade from there, restore by 5.5.959 backup?
