New Samsung Verizon Device Hinted at by Samsung Support?

We are totally going hypebeast on this post, there is no getting around that, so take it as that and nothing more.  But what we have above is a quick Twitter conversation between one of our buddies and a Samsung support rep.  Our friend @ClumsyNinja21 has been asking over and over again why Verizon was skipped in the Galaxy S II launch and if there would be something to make up for it in the near future.

Well, after not hearing much of a response for a solid day, he did get one this afternoon after dropping the idea of picking up the DROID Bionic instead of waiting and hoping that Samsung eventually delivers something.  The support rep was pretty clear in that he thought it would be worth waiting, but that he doesn’t have a date.  Wait, date for what?  I didn’t think Verizon had plans for anything beyond the Bionic?  Anyone remember an announcement of any kind on the Samsung/Big Red front?  (Anyone else grinning?)

Could he be referring to the Stratosphere?  I certainly wouldn’t recommend that anyone skip the Bionic for a single-core slideout 4G LTE device that is nothing more than an Epic 4G.  Could he be referring to the rumored DROID Prime?  If so, that could be worth waiting for – assuming all of the rumored everything ends up coming true.

Again, take it for what it’s worth…could be nothing.  Just wanted to share.

*Side note – And folks, let’s return to being civil with each other.  Remember, we all love Android because it gives us choices.  Just because someone wants to choose this device over that device does not make them wrong.  Let people make their own decisions, whether you believe those are wrong or not.  It’s all about happy times in the land of the green robot.

For me it would be enough if the Droid Prime was just a GED device. I’d prefer a Nexus device, but I would keep Verizon as the carrier since they are so sweet on the call quality. But if its all gonna have bloatware I’m going to attempt to switch carriers and go after that Nexus-first-to-be-updated goodness. Even the OG Droid was a GED and sometimes it would be 2-3 months behind the Nexus One in terms of updates.

    Good news!

Thanks so much for providing individuals with a very splendid chance to read in detail from this blog. It’s always so pleasurable and packed with a great time for me personally and my office peers to visit your blog at a minimum thrice a week to find out the fresh issues you will have. And indeed, I’m also actually fascinated considering the mind-boggling suggestions you give. Selected 1 facts on this page are clearly the very best we have all ever had.

  • Anonymous

If the Samsung rep told the person to buy a Bionic (or any other non-Sammy product) and not wait it would be like Kellex telling a reader to go read another blog because they get their info first.

I wanted to compose you this very little remark just to thank you so much yet again for those superb concepts you have provided at this time. This is certainly incredibly generous of you to deliver openly just what a number of us would have distributed for an ebook to end up making some cash for themselves, even more so considering that you might well have done it in case you desired. Those points as well worked like the easy way to be aware that other people online have a similar desire really like mine to see a good deal more on the topic of this problem. I believe there are several more enjoyable moments up front for folks who check out your blog post.

I wish to express my gratitude for your kindness for folks that require help with this important study. Your special dedication to passing the message all over appears to be quite effective and has surely enabled many people much like me to attain their targets. The informative hints and tips can mean much a person like me and far more to my colleagues. Best wishes; from everyone of us.

I dunno why everyone here is always dumping on the Stratosphere. Sure, its a re-branded Epic 4G body, but what what other options do we have for 4G sliders? 1.4Ghz/512MB RAM is plenty for a phone. My D2 and Thunderbolt run every app I throw at it… and THEN some. Only thing my Thunderbolt is missing is a keyboard.

It would be nice if HTC would make a 4G Merge, but, the Stratosphere will fill the need. And trust me, there is a lot of need. I know plenty of execs at my office ready to dump their Blackberries and OG Droids for the first 4G sliding Android phone on Verizon.

I hope the Stratosphere sells very well. I know I’ll be getting one.

My spouse and i have been so peaceful that Peter managed to complete his homework through the entire precious recommendations he got through the web pages. It’s not at all simplistic to simply always be offering tactics that many others could have been trying to sell. And we all remember we need the blog owner to appreciate because of that. The type of explanations you’ve made, the easy blog menu, the relationships you will make it possible to engender – it’s all terrific, and it is making our son and us recognize that this idea is exciting, and that’s incredibly mandatory. Thank you for the whole thing!

the charge is the best single core lte in verizon, the best dual core right now is the droid 3 but soon, that will change :) Droid bionic will rule them all including the plastic devices. Do you hear me Samsung, HTC :)

    • LionStone

“the charge is the best single core lte in verizon, the best dual core right now is the droid 3″… according to Angelface77.

When Samsung get their act together and build a good phone, i will get one from them. Let’s see how the droid prime is built.

So eager hop over to Android from iOS…pull the trigger on Bionic or wait to see what comes next?

    • Anonymous

it would come down to what you want in a phone and user reviews. dual-core? lte? slim factor? amoled plus? the major difference between iOS and android is the option to choose.  only one iphone is produced every year whereas a new android comes out every other month. u should make a checklist of what u want in a phone and go with whatever gets closest.

      • Anonymous

Dual core and LTE are a must.  I’ve never really compared pentile qHD vs. super amoled plus…some people seem really down on the pentile display – that’s really the only thing that worries me about the bionic.  I also want a pretty large screen, and don’t know if I’ll be disappointed with the 4.3 if the prime comes out at 4.65

        • Anonymous

well bionic is the only dual-core with LTE at this point, but i’m sure there will be a flood of similar device coming this holiday season considering how much Verizon invested into their LTE network. there will always be something newer and better waiting with every release. your best bet is to get your phone from bestbuy. They have a 30 day return policy that matches with verizon’s trial policy so you don’t have to pay early termination fees allowing you to try it out for a full month.

  • Chad

I’ll be waiting. I’m definitely done with Moto and their glitch filled releases like the Droid X and D3!!

A lot of thanks for your own labor on this web page. Debby delights in carrying out investigations and it is obvious why. Most of us notice all about the lively tactic you provide functional guides through your web blog and as well as improve contribution from people on that subject so our favorite princess is really being taught a great deal. Take pleasure in the remaining portion of the year. You’re the one performing a good job.

  • Crack Monkey

I’ve already waited this long for the Bionic so I guess I can wait a little longer to see if a Nexus/Droid Prime is appearing soon. I really like the Nexus and if Verizon gets a Nexus with 4G LTE I can just image what that beast will be like. It will probably blow the Bionic away. I’ve been a Moto fan but seeing what Samsung has been doing lately just may move me to the dark side.

  • YNotSGS2

he should have been more specific with his question  like: I have an upgrade that I really want to use in 2 months time should I get the bionic or are you going to have something out by that time period that’s better? something along that line, that way company can’t BS and give an answer that just basically says WAIT, Oh yeah we want your money so wait like another year for us because than we will have something out that is so much better.

  • Anonymous

Note they say “We THINK it would be worth waiting” not “IT WILL.” It does not inspire much confidence. We do not know anything for sure. We only have guesses. Maybe if they actually said what IT is, and a ROUGH timeline, then it MIGHT be worth waiting for. As it is, the Bionic IS the only phone we KNOW about.

    • YNotSGS2

so they basically said umm… yeah we want your cash please wait for as long as possible until we decide to release something and were sure it is really good- better than the bionic so wait. lol

  • Anonymous

I’m really wanting to make the switch from iOS to Android, but I don’t know whether I should pull the trigger on the Bionic or wait and see on the Prime….thoughts?

    • DBK

Since the Prime as we want it will probably never happen, the Bionic is your best bet (considering none of the other phones coming out this year (that we know of) tech-wise will better it overall – save for the Droid HD). Of course, those who are anti Moto/Blur would tell you otherwise.

      • Anonymous

Is anything known about the Droid HD other than the random side by side that leaked with the Bionic?

        • DBK

All we know is that it’s thinner, supposedly has a slightly better CPU, and supposedly has a better screen. Not much is really known beyond that I believe (although it will most likely have 1gb of ram and possibly a newer version of Blur). The specs are all rumor at this point though.

On the Samsung Galaxy S II wall https://www.facebook.com/SamsungGalaxyS I just wrote, “No S II love for Verizon?”.  Deleted immediately.  That’s cold.  I then unliked the page.  Don’t get me wrong, I still would like a Verizon S II but my OG Droid is getting a little long in the tooth, so Bionic may be the way to go.

I just posted it, we will see how long it takes for them to delete it.

I just posted as well.  Not directly on the wall, as I’m sure that was what would lead to an abrupt deletion; however, I posted it under another section regarding hands on.

Ummm, what did he think the Samsung rep was gonna say? “Nah, forget about us. Go ahead and get Motorola’s Bionic!”

    • DBK

Lol If I was the rep, and saw the competition, I would.  :)

    • Anonymous

well technically they are going to release a better phone than the bionic eventually

      • YNotSGS2

Yeah I bet they will… in time

  • Djkoz78

I don’t know why people would argue over the device someone would want to choose. Sorry that’s what I was trying to say.

  • Djkoz78

I know why anyone would argue through a comment or blog post if someone was deciding to buy adifferent device. That’s pretty silly. However like the poster commented on this device doesn’t mean it’s the Droid Prime. It very well could be the Stratosphere the Samsung rep is talking about it could be any device for all anyone knows right now. I how the rep is talking about the Prime, but even if he was again we have no date no specs we have so far nothing to go on officially. So of course the Samsung rep is gonna say wait before you upgrade they don’t want to lose any potential customers. But it may be February before we hear anything official. It could be just like the Bionic which was delayed over & over. Who knows I hope not, but I’ve also been waiting over a year to Upgrade my device & after the Bionic already came out on Sprint a month ago called the Photon. I’m definitely passing on that. However if I hear nothing about the Prime next month in a date & a soon i’m jumping shop i’m tired of waiting to upgrade when Verizon still has nothing to Upgrade to. It’s getting ridiculous. & after the news they’re passing on the Galaxy S II that was the straw that broke the camels back. & i’m giving Verizon a month to announce the Samsung Prime if it’s even true but if not adios.

    • DBK

Bionic and Photon are two different phones (and the Bionic is overall superior, tech-wise). Let’s not start this. I am trying to quit.  :)

  • FortitudineVincimus
  • Anonymous

Haha why would Samsung ever say anything else? Of course they don’t want him to buy a Bionic! Even if they didn’t have another phone coming out for three years, they would still claim it is “worth” waiting so that they get your money again.
    This doesn’t indicate anything.

    • Anonymous

Agree no company is going to tell you to buy a competitors product lol.

      • Anonymous

It is our choice to see what devices have the best build quality, speaker, processor etc

        • Anonymous

No shit sherlock. You can go out and pick what you want but these companies aren’t going to tell you to buy a competitors product.

  • http://twitter.com/NemaCystX NemaCystX

The Samsung rep might know something we don’t, I agree with Kellex, I wouldn’t recommend a single core over a dual core, so they might be suggesting the Prime or another unknown Sammy.

    Need. More. Info!. :P

  • Skynet

+1 to the side note. I’m for ANY android phone that can compete or crush the iFraud. It doesn’t matter who the manufacturer or carrier is. I personally prefer to stick with Verizon but i’m glad to see the GSII finally coming to the U.S. It’s us, all of US, vs. them!

On another side note I’m pumped for the release of the Bionic. I’m not getting one (still rocking the Dinc since day 1) but i personally know 4 people who are. Including my brother who is upgrading from his OG Droid.

    • DBK

+1 for the awesome (and terrifying) name.  :)

  • DBK

I have been away from DL for a bit, so I am a little out of the loop, but did it really get that bad that a disclaimer was needed? Wow.

In my own defense, since I have had several of those arguments, I really only argue their logic and hater attitudes. TBH, I could care less what they get, but passing along false information as universal fact is a no no. If you don’t like a particular phone, that’s one thing, but to say that it is worse then the phone you do like when that is obviously not the case is something else.

I wish all the “smart phone impaired” would take a minute to educate themselves on the tech in these devices before bashing them. You’d be surprised.

Of course, in all fairness, I’ll lay off them for awhile. Need to focus on the Bionic and on my D2.  :)

  • Granted

I’m hoping for a smart phone with a huge screen, that is collapsable.

    • http://twitter.com/NemaCystX NemaCystX

There was a leaked prototype being made by Motorola that will be like a RAZR but have two touch screens on the inside and one on the outside (non-touch)  It was only a prototype but it could very well be one of the 2012 devices that BMX was hinting at a while back during the Tbolt fiasco.  The design was futuristic to say the least and it reminded me very much of my RAZR I first had.

but as far as a full screen that is collapsable, I think Samsung is the only one that has that technology so far for there bendable OLED screens.  I would be very interesting to see what kind of a design they could come up with taking advantage of something like that, that could then end the whole slate-phone concept.

Like we went from candy bar phones with buttons, to flip phones, then to touch screen slabs of screen.

  • nfoote

I was at a conference 2 days ago and some Samsung recruiters were there I started talking to one about verizon passing over the SGII and he said to wait cause it’d get there eventually. Dunno if he knew what he was talking about though…

      • Anonymous

Yeah well don’t get too happy just yet…stupid Verizon and NFC/Wallet…Anyway the fact that every blog jumps on every ‘rumor’ hook line and sinker is a bit overdone.

        • EC8CH

If they kill the Nexus just to protect their mobile payment plans by squashing Google Wallet they need to be investigated by the DOJ.  Seriously, to they plan on not allowing any phones on their network with a NFC chip? Grow up Verizon it’s called the future and we’ll all be living in it soon.

          • Anonymous

It’s not that it would ‘kill’ it, its if it ships without it or disabled, can’t call it a true Nexus….

This is an ongoing thing, the new Bold 9930 ships without NFC software, and AT&T also said they intend on disabling it at launch. Carriers suck.

          • EC8CH

This is why carriers need to stop trying to be more than stupid information tubes.  Whenever they try to branch out into providing other services they immediately start to muscle out any type of competition.  If their method of mobile payment is so great… fine let the market decide that, but don’t use your power cut the legs off your competition.  It’s a wonder they ever let Google maps make it onto their network.

    • Anonymous

From the news over the last 2 days it looks like the Nexus prime and Droid prime, if they exist, are different phones.

I honestly don’t believe the Stratosphere will have a single core 1 GHZ processor. I am either buying the Bionic or the Stratosphere (if its the LTE slider). I am not gonna wait until October or later for Vigor or Prime

    • Anonymous

My guess (and because I don’t have deep knowledge of it) is that they will bump the processor to 1.2 or 1.5GHz, but keep it single.  Otherwise, they would have made it a Galaxy SII and released it with everyone else.

      • Anonymous

I would be satisfied with a 1.5GHz LTE Stratosphere.  After spending some time using a friend’s Thunderbolt, I’m sold on LTE, and web browsing on the Thunderbolt was very quick even with just a 1 GHz CPU.

Have there been any other LTE sliders even rumored for Verizon?  Of course, the Droid 4 is certain to be LTE, but that’s a year away…

Hopefully this is a good sign, but what did you expect them to say, “No, go buy one of our competitor’s phones.”  Besides everyone knows that fanboys fall for bait and switch tactics all the time (look how long it took them to release the Thunderbolt, Bionic, Incredible, etc.

    • TheAndroid1

They could have argued that the Charge was better.  The AMOLED screen, etc.

Obviously the Bionic will be better but you can spin it however you want.

I will get the Bionic from Costco, wait 90 days and return it for the Prime. Win/Win for me :-)

    • http://twitter.com/Esteinberger Eric Steinberger

problem is costco doesn’t sell the nexus ever :( I’m doing the same though in hopes verizons version will be different. Someone should start a petition for costco to sell it!

    • Burns22_98

Wait, you can do that? Can you just get a refund and buy the prime somewhere else?

      • webby

Uh … wrong information — buying a phone at Costco doesn’t really work that way, because there is a carrier contract involved.  You can’t just return a cell phone in the 90 day window, like it’s a TV, because you don’t like it or whatever.  For a cell phone, you only have 14 days for that at Costco.  After that, up to the 90 day window, Costco will replace it if you have a defective phone, but that’s it.

Plus, you will have signed a new two year contract with Verizon in the process, so if you used your upgrade on the Bionic, and you want to buy the Prime (if it comes to VZW), you will have to pay full boat for it, likely > $600 bones with tax.
