Yes they provide updates but if you want to really support a dev then buying the app through the Android Market is a good idea. Having apps on Amazon free app of the day generates absolutely no income for developers and some apps like Pocket Casts and Apparatus have stopped provided updates on Amazon.

Huh? Amazon’s “Free app of the day” IS the full app version and Amazon does indeed provide updates when they are available. When you open the Amazon App Store on your phone, hit your Menu button> My Apps> select Update Available along the top.
