DROID2 Gets Official CM7, Nightlies Should Start Tonight

DROID2 owners, get ready for nightly builds of the CM7 port that JBirdVegas has been working so diligently on.  According to @cvpcs, they are bringing it all over and will merge it into the CM tree to make it an officially supported device.  It’s already showing up on GitHub under CM, so you’ll want to make sure you have ROM Manager premium for easy access to all of the nightly work that will be done.  Pretty big day for D2 owners who have been feeling a little left out after seeing the DROIDX get both official Gingerbread and CM7 long ago.

Anything to say, D2 owners?

Cheers Brian, Gordon and Christian!

I intended to draft you the very small note to finally say thanks a lot yet again for the fantastic secrets you’ve featured above. It is particularly generous with people like you to allow easily just what most of us would have sold for an e-book to end up making some bucks on their own, and in particular since you might well have done it if you ever decided. Those strategies as well served to provide a good way to be sure that some people have the identical keenness really like my own to realize a whole lot more with regards to this issue. Certainly there are millions of more enjoyable opportunities up front for folks who scan through your blog post.

I loved Cyanogenmod for my OG Droid. When I upgraded to the Droid2, I could never understand why CM was never made to support it. It was the better, faster version of the original. I suppose better late than never. Now let’s see some love for my soon to be new phone the Droid3.

  • Anonymous

I have cyanogenmod on my droid x and it is AMAZING!!

BTW are nightlies the themes you can download from the market?

  • Mcneilmoe

  • PT

Does it work with Gingerbread for D2?

    • Droid

Actually it runs gb but you have to sbf back to froyo first since it uses that bootloader and then boots into cm gb

  • Myles

I’ve been waiting for this since August 15th when i first got my Droid 2 from upgrading from my OG Droid. I’ve put it on my friends phones and they have enjoyed the hell out of it :) but every time that id look down at my phone and see that poopie motoblur in froyo and then life got a little better with the gingerbread leak but all it brought was constant crashing and hatred for my phone. Now on liberty .8 and its really good but nothing can compare to a real cyanogen mod experience :)

  • Ed

Droid 2 should be getting EVERYTHING before the X. Its predecessor set the standards.

    • http://profiles.google.com/dannymgme Daniel Garcia

Great news is that the Droid 3 has everything the X2 has and more =)

      NO!!!!!!!! LOL

    • Mcneilmoe

      NO!!!!!!!! LOL

  • Armerad

I started running the dev build last night after hearing from my friend that it was largely bug-free. I had originally planned on waiting until it hit beta stage, but I guess better earlier then later.

  • infernal

if you dont like reading the comments section, why bother leaving a comment? or even worse, asking a question in the comment section that would actually require a followup to see if anyone’s answered it?

      • http://jamisonkissh.com jak119

Why be a dick when I failed to notice it in the comments? Why not just leave my comment ignored?

    • http://profiles.google.com/chrisleighton3 Chris Leighton

go to system>about phone>updates if you want moto’s 2.3.3, but that’d just be stupid. root it and install cm7. even without camera and video playback its a thousand times better than moto’s blur 2.3.3

  • Vgg

Been running it for almost a week now its pretry sweet

    WHEN’S MILESTONE 2’S TURN?

  • Brian

Yeah for me!  Finally got a “Cheers” on DL.  All that aside, JBird, Metick, Rev, cvpcs, and all the others have done a tremendous job.  You will not be disappointed.  Have been running this since day one and it is incredible (no pun intended)!  Wonderful day indeed for us D2 owners.

  • Azills

been following the work on rootzwiki, running an unofficial nightly from one of the guys. its very nice slick rom

  • BostonB

Glad this is finally out. Hopefully I do not have to use it long since I am waiting for the Bionic…. Ok maybe I will be using this for another six months.

  • Justin Hollender

Will it be available for the D2G?

  • The350zWolf

Ha, this is great news for the D2:
    Gingerbread +1
    Minimal blur, max performance +3
Another option besides Verizon’s stock Froyo +3

Too bad that CM7 is not compatible with D2G :^(

    • Brian

I’m guessing there’s no blur involved at all.  I could be wrong, but I’ve seen no blur at all. +10

    What is CM7?

  • Sleepininca

Seriously…I am so over cm7 and their support of every phone but the thunderbolt 4G. Thank god for REAL developers like the das bamf team. Fu*k cyanogen mod and its supposed “support”.

    Fanboys…..FLAME ON!

    • Miguel Sanchez

There’s nothing stopping you from doing it yourself…except for your own ignorance.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Michael-Forte/542650247 Michael Forte

The reason the Thunderbolt doesn’t have official CM7 support is because all the code for the radios has to be written manually. Being the first phone with an LTE radio only makes this task more daunting. Do it yourself if you’re going to complain or appreciate what the devs do for us.

    • Sabbotage

      You sir, are an asshat.

    • Romma1

If I am not mistaken, CVPS is the developer that created the system to beat the bootloader. CVPS is part of the Cyanogen Team. So any other so-called roms are nowhere near what Cyanogen has at the moment. That is dedication and true love of Android to stick with, and not give up on a phone that is becoming more obsolete by the day. Kudos Team Douche! And booey on you Sleepininca

    • chmcclellan

How many devices does das bamf support? Cyanogenmod supports 28.  When I can try das bamf on my OG droid, or any other device from that matter, say somthing.

  • Nick

    finally…bye bye fission

i’ve been running the dev versions and it works very well.  This is going to make a lot of D2 owners very happy

  • Boss

They must be too busy complaining to VZW tech support.

  • http://markpude.com Mark P

Does this include Droid 2 global? anyone know?

    • MeHappy

Droid 2 Global is still in development, you can follow the progress here: at http://rootzwiki.com/showthread.php?575-Dev-Thread-BETA-CyanogenMod-7-(based-off-cm4d2-port).
The most current build has most everything working, but there is still issues with some of the sensors and the camera.

      • http://markpude.com Mark P

Awesome, looks like they’re making good progress!

  • http://maxtechnewz.blogspot.com/ Max

ive been waiting my whole life

    • tjhrulz

When I found my OG droid I almost switched it to my primary instead of my droid 2 because of CM7, now I can have speed and options.
