I am looking forward to picking mine up. I preordered one.
I know I don’t need one but I also know I will use it a lot because I already have a Windows 7 tablet that I use every day to take notes in meetings. It’s the pen functionality in combination with Microsoft OneNote that sold me on the Win 7 tablet. Since it is a convertible tablet, it also serves as a nice desktop. A second external monitor makes it even more useful as a desktop.
The detractors for my Win 7 Tablet (for me) are portability (size and weight) and lack of an “instant on”. I don't usually carry it around unless I am on my way to a meeting.
I am expecting that I will carry the Flyer at work all the time – making it more useful for taking notes around the campus.
Now all I have to do is figure out how to get my notes from the Flyer into OneNote and make the text searchable.
EverNote is cool but I doubt that it can replace OneNote for me.

I would love to see that 1 lb acer laptop with a multi-touch screen you are talking about. Sure, I can get a PC off craigslist for $25 but nobody in their right mind would compare the two.

BTW I own 3 laptop an iPad and an Acer Iconia A500 android tablet and the android tablet gets 90% of the use.

Here's the destruction of your statement: the word Need, and that you stated those "could find use", not definitely use ?

You don't need a tablet, you want one. And it is a statement of fact that for the cost of any of the tablets, with the exception of the Asus, which is non available, that for that cost, you can get a more fully featured laptop.

Once most people decide that they want one, they shop - once shopping they ask others what they think, and until tablets come down in $$$ for what they offer in comparison to a laptop, even a cheap one comparatively, those people get told you can do better in functionality vs cost by getting a laptop.

Now, that said:

I want one, but I don't need one, there is no one out there I know of
who "Needs" one ... that is the realm of sales experts, to tell you what
you need.

There are advantages to tablets, how that may make your decision to get one is known only to that shopper. That includes whether or not to go apple vs android.

My next statement is a bit flaming, however, the ipad sales are IMO just because any apple person will traditionally get the next big thing out of Cupertino because its Steve's. That accounts for most of those sales, and the lack of comparison in sales of android tablets. Then you have those who like it better. they are entitled to that opinion and to enjoy their tablets! There are persons here who have both and could tell us all the pros/cons without getting into fanboy debates. :)

IMHO though, android tablets will overtake them for the same reason PC's outnumber them: many more HW manufacturers which equals choice for the consumer.

I have a pre-order with Best Buy, see how this goes...

I never was always an early adopter, and I'm blaming Droid-Life for that! :) So I'm definitely going to get one of these Flyers and use it for a couple weeks. It is worth it to me, for traveling and note-taking and the size and weight is perfect. Small, lightweight stuff sometimes costs more, and I know in a year or so it'll drop to half of what I'll probably pay, but hey, I think this thing might be a good fit for me.
