Rumor: Official DROIDX Gingerbread Possibly Rolling Out May 13

We’ve seen at least 3 leaked versions of Gingerbread (Android 2.3) for the DROIDX now, so you can imagine that we must be close to something official.  And according to friends around the DL family, “close” could be May 13.  What we’ve been told is that Motorola has finalized the latest build (not 4.5.591 – something newer) and expects Verizon to sign off on it by the 6th with hopes that it can be made available by next Friday.  So if it is a go, then Friday could become the test phase of a rollout with the mass load hitting users by the next week starting on or around the 16th.  A lot of “ifs” in there, I know.

And as always, we want to make sure you understand that this information can change at anytime and should be taken as rumor.  Verizon has already rejected at least 3 builds from Moto, so there are no guarantees that this is going to be the one that finally passes through.  The good news is, we’ll probably have another leak!  Yes, that was cheesy sarcasm.

Cheers ___!

I am liking what Moto is doing with DX (obviously except for the BL).
Hopefully they can keep these updates rolling for their future phones.

New rumor: Official DX Gingerbread possibly rolling out tomorrow!

(very new, I just started it…)

I cant wait for this official release. I have tried every GB leak and ROM so far and they just keep getting better and better. I feel that GB is like Windows 7 after dealing with XP and Vista for so long. So much faster and cleaner and just better in general.

This phone is epic, Gingerbread would make this epic-er. GREAT GOING MOTOROLA! D:

i cant wait for the official GB update for te droid x its going to be amazing the froyo is so bugged

I am enjoying using the beta Liberty GB, I am on v0.5 right now. Since v0.1 Liberty GB has been virtually flawless, not to mention blows Liberty 2.0.1 Foyo away in terms of UI speed, let alone any stock Froyo blur. My DX is running the best it ever has thanks to the Liberty team!

was on the .588 update and sbf’d back to froyo. re rooted and flashed liberty rom 2.0. IMO liberty is the best rom and is better than GB. i think it will be the best when the gingerbread liberty roms arent in beta and when the OTA comes out with a sick ass liberty rom. no bloatware no blur no problem.

I am strongly hoping for a leak of the final so that I don’t have to pull an OTA, mostly because I don’t want to have to wait for an sbf file to be leaked because of the locked bootloader on signed updates and not being able to sbf back to Froyo.

    • Krweby

You can sbf back to group I’ve done it without a problem.

Am I the only person that is totally over the whole update jerkoff sessions by Moto?
As much as I love my X, well, except I don’t get service at my house, and it constantly reboots by itself. I think I will be moving back to Apple when the I5 comes out.
I just want something to work, and get updates when they say it is going to come out.

    • Anonymous

Moto’s never stated update dates and then reneged. If your X doesn’t get service neither will an iPhone which, btw, is hardly bug free itself. Enjoy your no service iPhone with one update a year.

  • dannyjedi

fool me once, shame on you, fool me 23 times, shame on me.

  • Jake

If i have a phone with permanent root. Will i still get the update over the air?

    • Mylifesalivinghell

i you dont have the last offical release on your phone you will not get the update

  • gconnorg

I try to install the xip file that contains Gingerbread using ROM manager but it says “installation failed”. Can anyone help me?

  • http://twitter.com/arkhum Arkhum

I really hope they roll this out really soon.

  • Connorglynn2093

I try to use clockworkmod ROM manager to install the ZIP file of the update but it says “installation failed”. can anyone help me?

  • Anonymous

I’m running 4.5.588 and its been running perfectly for 2 weeks now. There was an app that was causing a reboot – News & Weather widget. But since I uninstalled it – 4.5.588 is more reliable than Froyo ever was.

The only difference I see is that the newer releases have a LOT of Verizon crapware. I would not be surprised if Verizon is simply forcing Moto to add more and more crap.

  • Anonymous

Once I can finally run an approved build of GB for my DX, I would have certainly gotten my money’s worth for this phone. Seriously though, even with its locked bootloader, this has been hands down my favorite phone to date.

  • Friday 13th

Looking forward to it for sure but why Friday the 13th!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Mr.Joe

So that it will brick everyones device and vzw can say “must be Friday the 13th” =D

  • Mylifesalivinghell

rumors are this update will lock your phone so you cant run custom roms anymore…..

  • Anonymous

Hopefully an update for the Droid2 follows shortly afterward.

    • The350zWolf

I hope that what you say is true, which incidentally it brings up an interesting point; as far as phones go the Droid2 Global might as well be considered a completely different phone! There is absolutely no love for the D2G! If one tries to put the D2 Gingerbread leak on it it gets completely screwed up! The D2G is still on Froyo 2.2! (Yes, 2.2 not even 2.2.1) :^(

      • Anonymous

Well, the D2 (minus the “G”) has only received one update. That was a couple weeks after launch, and all it did was fix an issue in syncing contacts with Exchange.

  • Jase

What r the chances it wont have that shit ugly blue colored theme.

  • Anonymous

Hope its less buggy than those releases. I had nothing but problems with all of those leaks.

    • Rolo72

I’ve had no problems with any of the releases. It only got snappier with each release. How is this possible? USER ERROOOOOOOOOOOOOR! Lol.

      • Anonymous

        Completely user error.
I have loved the Gingerbread from the first to the third leak. I am now on Liberty GB 0.5 .591, Stock Froyo DX sucks hard by comparison. This build is screaming fast and less buggy than the last Froyo Blur build IMO. I could care less about Vzw releasing their approved build with tons of garbage in it.

  • Kerby

Now if only Moto decided to strong arm Verizon into releasing Gingerbread without all the Verizon crapware. If only….

    • Anonymous

Verizon has the iDiotPhone now, they won’t budge.

  • Larry

I don’t want Gingerbread or Ice Cream Sandwhich, or even honeycomb I want Jello or whatever they’re gonna call that build.

  • http://profiles.google.com/truemobius Jeremiah Bengtson

Isn’t this the same day the DX2 is supposed to start being sold too? Is that the real update? “HEY EVERYBODY you can now get Gingerbread on your DX. You just mail us or go into your local store and just spend 250 on our update program and we can have that “installed” on your DX.

  • Ted

Yes, this is great, but what about the D2G?

  • Anonymous

Id take Froyo with a custom ROM over GB any day.

Even though I could get GB with a ROM.

    But I dont need it

  • Anonymous

i couldnt care less. already running the leaked version and it has treated me well

  • Joy2great

Just curious, what happened to when OTA update arrives to rooted dx with ginger bread already working?

    • YourMomsLooseTwaht

You won’t be able to. The update checks to make sure you have a 100% stock OS. You will have to SBF back to Froyo to accept the update.

  • Anonymous

Will we have to flash back to stock in order to get the mass update if you have a leaked one loaded?

    • Trophynuts

yes. or wait till a Dev makes it as a zip for you to drop on your phone.

  • LivinFree

I wouldn’t count on it hitting next week. Even is VZW approves by the 6th it will not be pushed out within a week. At best it will be 2 wks if not longer

  • digsoreos

Advice to Motorola: Add even more VZW bloatware and Verizon will approve the first build you present to them. ;)

    • YourMomsLooseTwaht

Yeah, I need about 40 apps that load on bootup and that are always running in the background regardless if I have ever run them.

      • Trophynuts

root and freeze the apps using Titanium Backup Pro

        • YourMomsLooseTwaht

I do, I was being sarcastic. thanks though,.

  • Sohodefjam

Do not want. I still like my tether and don’t intend on loosing it just yet. I’ll be forever using froyo.

    • YourMomsLooseTwaht

You better like a $300 backcharge then, it’s coming.

      • Sohodefjam

        stfu troll

        • YourMomsLooseTwaht

I would but your moms over here and I have to entertain her fat ass or she will drag her teeth.

  • YourMomsLooseTwaht

Why even through dates out at this point. Ok, May 15th is the drop dead date. No, wait, May 32nd, No, now the new date is July 4th.

    • Anonymous

you seriously need a new ‘name’. unless that your real birth name.

      • YourMomsLooseTwaht

        Yeah, it is.

        • Jim Dandy

          Twaht the grouch :p

          • YourMomsLooseTwaht

I am a bit of a grouch, realist, but grouchy.

    • John

true but why not? i like to at least think we have a somewhat soon date. us droid x’ers need it

  • http://twitter.com/djstarion Francisco Rodriguez

We need another leak for the D2!

    • John

no one cares about the d2! ;P

  • Tiberiumdj

GB is already old whats next, lol

    • Anonymous

Funny thing is at IO, they’ll probably announce Ice Cream, so technically GB will be old news heh.

      • YourMomsLooseTwaht

It has been old a week after the leak. Not a big deal. It’s like Cuban cigars, only desirable becuase we can’t get them.

      • Sketch2000

Ice Cream? Shit, I want Cookie Dough!

        • Mr.Joe

          CD is OLD news.

That’s true. I really wish that model was global though :)

      • hkklife

My prediction? Moto had the DX update ready to roll out on the 10th (or sooner) but VZW didn’t want it to overshadow the DX2 launch. If the X2 launches with Gingerbread standard, that gives people one more reason to buy it over a leftover X. Besides, the Gingerblur update is so damn good & snappy that it almost makes the DX feel like a new device.

  • Trophynuts

I’m still on the first leak. I really like the new GingerBlur …to the point of i may not be using any custom roms….still need root though

    • YourMomsLooseTwaht

the messaging widget on GB sucks. No scrolling without pushing ‘more’ each time. lame.

      • Anonymous

Dude, u gotta get laid or something……always hatin’ 24/7 on every post….im all for messing w/people & being real but u are on some constant next level shit with it bro

        • IvankaHumpHew

I agree with loose. It’s not what everyones made it out to be. Lots o’ bugs.

You guys are killing me….at 6:00am in the morning…didn’t know I could laugh before my first cup of coffee.

The gingerbread leaks have all been rooted, and D2 Bootstrap gives you clockwork recovery.

There still are a few bugs as of the latest leaks I’ve run into with the audio effects and the camera that cause a freeze and automatic reboot. Otherwise very stable and much much snappier than froyo.

  • John

good. they need to hurry the eff up. i’m getting antsy!

  • Trophynuts

    first

    • digsoreos

Congrats. I’d give you a trophy, but it seems as though you already have two. Lol
