Download: DROIDX Gingerbread V4.5.588

Well here you go.  The random OTA update of Gingerbread for the DROIDX that we talked about earlier is out for everyone to enjoy manually.  Just know that you have to be completely stock on Blur 2.3.340 in order to run this update file.  There is no root at this time, but we’re hoping to have a version with root some time tonight.  And this is for everyone, including non-rooted users.  Actually, this is easiest for non-rooted users.

Download:  Blur_Version.2.3.340.MB810.Verizon.en.US.zip

Instructions:

*Note 1* – For non-rooted users. You have to be running stock 2.3.340 or this will not work.

*Note 2* – To rooted users, you will need to SBF back to 2.3.340.

*Note 3* – P3Droid is hoping to have a rooted version up by tonight.

*Note 4* – We still aren’t sure if this is the final Verizon build or not.

1.  Download the file from above and drop it on the root of your SD card.
2.  Rename it to update.zip.
3.  Turn your phone all the way off.
4.  Boot into recovery:

*Hold the Home button + Power.  When triangle appears, press Search.

5.  Choose the option to install update.zip using your volume keys.
6.  Your phone will now load the new Gingerbread.
7.  Enjoy!

More mirrors can be found at DX Forums. (All links appear to be dead.)

Cheers @P3Droid for this file!

has anybody found the new built-in screen capture feature for GB? I read some time ago (somewhere) it was coming for GB.

  • Juan_ortega92

can anybody help me this is what i get when trying to install the update
    –Install from sdcard…

      I’m getting the same error

        same problem

Its because you named the update file “update.zip” i had the same issue, just name it “update” and it works great

Well, I was excited to see this and try it. I hope my experience is not common.
I followed the instructions exactly. (I have an MS in Tech and 20+ years experience so I am not shy).
I applied the update and it said it installed correctly.
My Droid X rebooted and I liked the new logo.
    But, when it comes up:
None of the buttons work = do anything
Touching anything on the screen makes the screen go dark except for the notification bar at the top, which i cannot get to come down.
I could not get the phone functions to come up.
I called the phone from another and it did not ring or show a call coming in.
I could do nothing, so I tried to reset. Then I called VZW and they had me try the same.
When I press Power and Home I get the screen with Andy and a triangle with an exclamation point in it.
But the search button and the volume toggle buttons do nothing.
The VZW rep connected me to a MOTO rep who told me to call back in two hours because their systems were updating.
I liked what I saw of the visual differences in Gingerbread. I look forward to getting a version that worked.
Oh, and the restart (after removing the battery, which was the only way to shut off the phone as a long press on the power button was the same as a short press, it just turned off the screen.) took about twice as long as FroYo. I did not get to time it, so that is subjective.

By the way, as I did not state it outright, but I did not have a rooted phone. It was never rooted before this.

Yep all this was easy if you followed the instructions. I kind of wish i knew what Step 3 did, but i ran TBH_Tether after it and my wifi tethering works like a charm. And getting the data out of my 573 nandroid backup made it even better.

  • DK1121

Followed instructions and installed last night. No problems thus far. Just curious, when the official OTA does come out, will I still get updated now that I’m running this???

  • Androd94

does the CRTanim.zip work on this leak too, like to know before i flash it

    • tiberiumdj

I never installed it on this leak it does work on the rooted leak for this build.

  • Mr.Lahey

HAS ANY ONE GOT THIS F-ING SYNC FIGURED OUT IM SICK OF LOOKING AT IT AND ITS KILLING MY BATTERY I DO NOT I REPEAT DO NOT WANT TO WIPE THATS WHERE ALL THE PROBLEMS START NEXT THING YOU KNOW ITS RANDOM REBOOT TIME FOR THE DROID X AND IT WILL DO IT UP TOO FIVE TIMES A DAY.

WITH THAT SAID I REALLY LIKE THE NEW LOOK OF GINGERBREAD BUT IT LOOKS LIKE ITS GOING TO BE ANOTHER WONKIE VERIZON BUILD.

IF ANY ONES GOT IDEAS I FOUND IF I FORCE CLOSE THE ADMIN NOTIFIER OFF IT WILL GO AWAY FOR AROUND THREE TO FIVE MINUTES AND BE BACK.

I DONT WANT TO FLASH BACK TO STOCK BUT AT LEAST THERE I CAN HAVE BATTERY LIFE FOR MORE THEN A FEW HOURS.

    • tiberiumdj

I don’t think you have an option outside of data wipe/factory reset, with the sync icon and the force close issue

      • Mr.Lahey

        Thanks guys

        • Mr.Lahey

Wiped and its gone so far so good

    • Chayes407

all of my problems went away after the wipe/reset It works flawlessly thusfar, I have put it through its paces with everything I would normally use it for. Battery life is better it appears. If this is not the final build, it works like the final for my purposes

  • M0train

Once you do this, can you get back to Froyo? Also what happens when the OTA comes out will you still get the update later too?

  • Anonymous

Got it, works perfectly. Looks kind of cool too.

  • http://www.mydigitalwhiteboard.wordpress.com anim

Do you have to select USB dbugging as ON? to download this file?

  • Anonymous

would i have to re-install gingerbread?

  • Loverboidn231

Anyone else have trouble wit the file manager being glitchy and force closing randomly?

  • Chayes407

Finally finished with the recovery wipe data reset whatever. I agree with tiberium, It took ALOT of stress time and energy but the finished product is absurdly faster, smoother, cleaner, and overall better. Tomorrow will be the true test to see how long battery lasts. before anyone complains about that try turning your screen brightness all the way down or off. Before I updated that trick earned me at least 2 extra hours of life. and just think! in however long when the OTA or official push comes out, we can go through all this hassle and debate all over again!

  • Rideblue526

gotta say im kinda dissapointed with gingerbread lol i thought it was supposed to make it faster…..shits slower than froyo and phones freezing every time i try to do something …and no im not trolling

    • http://twitter.com/STEV3TS Steven D

the version from last week felt faster. not having any problems besides my LED not working

    • tiberiumdj

go into recovery wipe data/factory reset should take care of ya.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_W3EZ6AIP7H556GK7JOZ7XF4HW4 Alex

i think i seriously effed up my dx a long time ago because ever since i was playin around with tranquility and apex, id switch between the two, and i remember doin something wrong resulting me flashing an sbf, to get tranquility to work again, and i just flashed a maderstcok – OTA 2.3.340 update.zip to get this update when i remembered i cant push the update because it wont have verizon service, and whenever i try to go into recovery, it comes up with bootloader 30.04 err:a5,70,00,00,24 any ideas? and no worries, this isnt my primary or even secondary, tbolt and og droid got my back

    • tiberiumdj

if you booting into bootloader just SBF back to stock wipe data/factory reset and your all good.

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_W3EZ6AIP7H556GK7JOZ7XF4HW4 Alex

        cool thanks!

  • http://twitter.com/STEV3TS Steven D

Anyone know where the Rooted Version is? and Anyone having trouble with the notification LED mine doesnt work

    • tiberiumdj
      • http://twitter.com/STEV3TS Steven D

yea i just saw it thanks. not sure if i want to sbf back and redo the whole thing. probably just gonna wait until the official final build is be pushed and sbf back then and wait for that to be rooted

        • tiberiumdj

always a plan, i’m liking the rooted one they have not lots of the bugs from the old leak are fixed, and as long as nothing new shows up we can start working on roms :)

  • sodaash

Okay not sure where i should ask this question but im tring to sbf from the leaked gingerbread so i can apply the new gingerbread update… but when i try to get into boot recovery it gets hung at the screen with the robot with the ! over him… i read that to get into boot recovery you need to disable usb debugging so i tried that with no luck… has anyone else had this issue?

    • http://twitter.com/STEV3TS Steven D

you need to boot into the bootloader not recovery. i believe you need to hold down one of the volume buttons and the camera button. should bring you to a black screen that says bootloader

      • sodaash

your right not sure what i was thinking that worked

        thanks you

        • http://twitter.com/STEV3TS Steven D

flashing the sbf is a pain in the but took me the whole day so take your time

          • tiberiumdj

its not that bad, lol, just hard at first last night I think I did 20+ of them

          • http://twitter.com/STEV3TS Steven D

yeah but i dont get the point of rooting the DX anymore. The OG Droid had roms and kernels that made it so much more worth it. DX with a root I really dont see a point unless im missing something than please inform me

          • tiberiumdj

ya i hear you so many people only did it for the tethering thing. To tell you the truth with the right OC program, and a good clean custom rom, you run fast, your phone looks just how you want it, I have had my batter life to lengths I never though possible. It is kind of a what are you looking for in your phone type of thing.

          • http://twitter.com/STEV3TS Steven D

honestly dont even know how to use the tethering. dont know of any Roms for the DX besides Liberty which isnt really appealing to me. And i didnt know there was a OC program for it either. I was on top of my game with my OG Droid but Im slacking with my DX

          • tiberiumdj

ya check out MDW or Droidforums, lost of good info about roms, I loved the darkslide rom. But yes loads you can do on a rooted droid x

  • Ams1650

    Using 2.3.3

I have this strange icon that looks like three reverse 3’s. It is between the blue tooth icon and the 3G.

anybody have this and know what it is?????

    • Chayes407

it means your phone is on vibrate. turn the ringer on

  • Chayes407

Did manual install and it basically bricked my phone for 20 minutes. LP and other widgets kept FC and I got a black screen, unable to shut off with power button. Pulled the battery 5 times, could not get the triangle boot screen to work with search button, freaked a bit (I am somewhat new to this). Decided to just wait til morning. Suddenly without warning or doing anything it just worked. I have no explanation for how or why. Just did a factory reset (had the same sync icon issue). sync icon is still there none of my apps or anything have reappeared.. everything is stock. regardless it still looks and runs very nicely. Feels good to take a chance every once in a while. Comments or suggestions would be appreciated. Will it all reappear on its own? Adding everything over again will be a pain but whatever. GINGERBREAD BRO!

  • Ams1650

installed 2.3.3 last night. working okay.

But i do have this weird icon between the 3G and blue tooth. it looks like three reverse three’s/3’s-

anybody have the same and know what it is??????

Has anyone had a problem with rooting your phone after update

  • Villella1717

Is there going to be an OTA sometime soon? Has it happened for anyone or has everyone just been getting it manually? I really don’t want to mess up my phone, butimgetting tired of waiting for this bus.

  • Rjg978

Just updated and everything was working great, now it just freezes every single time. I’ve updated like this before and had no problems, my stuff is backed up, only problem now is when I tried to do a factory reset I cant go anywhere when I get to the boot menu, it just shows the triangle and droid icon, any advice would be great, thanks everyone

    • tiberiumdj

after your power/home when you see the triangle press both volume buttons.

    • Marco

Hit the power button & the search button at the same time.

        Any luck fixing it?

  • garrett

settings> privacy settings> check back up data and automatic restore. then do a reset. when you book up afterwards and activate your phone again( takes 2 seconds) you add your accounts and all of your apps and contacts are put back on your phone

    • http://twitter.com/e_Rican €ric J

ya i know what you mean… but thats not a for sure thing. i have, its’ a 50/50 chance if i do a master reset that my phone will look the same when i turn it back on. normallly on moto blur stock it wouldnt.?? so inno?

  • http://twitter.com/e_Rican €ric J

This was a easy install for me … its just a grab and drop … all the nerds got confused with “root” …lol smh

  • http://twitter.com/e_Rican €ric J

how do i get rid of the “SYNC”… will it ever go away?

If im running leaked 2.3.3 can i do this? someone please respond

    • tiberiumdj

yes if your still on 2.3.340 stock, no root, you should have no issues installing this.

  • Chris

I can’t get RSD lite to recognize my droid. What should I do?

    • tiberiumdj

If your trying to use RSD to SBF back to stock you need the phone to be in bootloader (do this before connecting it to the computer running RSD. If you on windows 7 right click the RSD program and run as admin. RSD should see your phone if you connect it now, if not you may have a driver issue.

  • Ktownsfinest814

i have the prviously leaked gingerbread. does this mean i can or cant do this?

  • Anonymous

successfully installed this on my husbands DX but now auto-sync will not shut off…looked in settings no “accounts and sync” in the settings menu…just “accounts.” any ideas how to shut down auto-sync? and if this would create an issue leaving it on(drain battery etc.) if it wont create any issues, we wont worry about it.

    • garrett

i did a factory reset to mine when that happend. it automatically installed all my apps and i was set up agian in maybe 15 min tops.

      • Anonymous

would i have to re-install gingerbread? or does it just factory reset gingerbread?

is there a way to get the old school crt off animation on this verision?

    • tiberiumdj

once its rooted you should be able to install the crt animation just like you did on the last build

      • garrett

thanks for the repy. do you know if it is possible if you are not rooted? i was never rooted before

        • tiberiumdj

I do not think it can be done on a non rooted phone, this is why we root :)

          • garrett

i wanna root. i just dont wanna lose my warranty if i break my phone some other way

          • tiberiumdj

you can always unroot, though I have never heard of anyone taking a broken (not just software, but actually like ran over it with my car broken) phone to verizon and being turned away because of being rooted.

          • garrett

do you now if this verison above has root acess yet?

          • tiberiumdj

the one above does not, the root verison of this GB build should be 3 different .zip files that will need to be installed. I assume it will be up later this evening.

          • garrett

thanks for the help man. im really considering goin for the root if its not too complicated.

when you rename it, only rename it “update”. If you do update.zip, it will be named update.zip.zip. Drop that on to the root of your sdcard, and try again.

Name the file update not update.zip and that should fix your problem.

no that actually didn’t fix my issue… recovery mode doesn’t even recognize it if I don’t keep it as update.zip

        • tiberiumdj

it is already a .zip file so when you look at the file you should see update as its name. if you name it update.zip its real name will be update.zip.zip. Also check the file size it should be close to 112mb, you may just have a bad file.

          • http://profiles.google.com/curtis.laprise Curtis LaPrise
