I think it would be nice to have the app too. I even added the app onto my ipad. You’d think that an actual google device would have it available as well.

google voice is on the ipod touch and you can’t get any cell service on it… sooooo, why not the xoom? I would like to be able to use sms and play my voicemails from my xoom if I needed…

The website works, but will not play the voicemails… Plus you get no instant notifications unless you leave the site running fullscreen…

The BT keyboard has a messaging icon. When you press it, nothing happens at all. Total bullshit.

It has a microphone for Google Talk, which I haven’t used yet. Can’t seem to tell if my camera is on.

Better have it soon. I refuse to start another text app. Yeah, we all know thus ain’t a phone, but the text is pure data anyway. Hurry up Google. This isn’t the ipad. Oh wait, they do have Google voice don’t they?

Pretty sure you can also do it through Gmail if you the cell phone number of the person you are sending to as a contact. Just type an email and in the address field put the name of the person you are trying to text and it works. I tried it once from my desktop and didn’t have any issues. And if you have GV send alerts to your email you get push notifications as well.

Okay so this really doesn’t make any sense. Google Voice does not do VoIP. It routes calls your phone actually handles. Also, Google Voice doesn’t require any sort of telephony to send SMS, it’s all through a data connection. Doesn’t make sense to me that it couldn’t just work as a texting station, but okay. I hope Google fixes this pretty quickly.

This is already possible. Put your phone into Airplane mode, turn on Wifi, and send texts to your heart’s content. I’ve no idea why GVoice supposedly requires “telephony features”.

I too have (and love) the Xoom Tablet and I was fully aware of the lack of sms capabilities when I purchased it, but I still long for the ability to fire off a text now and then. Hopefully that will come soon with or without Google Voice’s help. Until then I found a good work around was to simply use an SMS gateway and emai/gmail to send at text to friends and family. They can reply back from any phone type so for me it works the same http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_SMS_gateways
