Rumors: DROID X2 Will be Dual-Core, Incredible 2 Global?

Fresh off of our news yesterday that Verizon is planning to release updated versions of the DROID X, DROID 2 and Incredible, we’ve received some additional tips that could really spice things up.  I do want to make sure you all understand that these should be taken as “rumor” for now since details on phone releases change on a daily basis with carriers, but we thought these were juicy enough to share.

  • DROID X2 is rumored to be a Tegra 2 dual-core device.  We had heard it was going to be clocked at 1GHz and were initially a little disappointed, but after hearing from one of our guys that it could be dual-core, that speed no longer bothered us and actually made sense.  It also will not be 4G just as we figured.  A current Verizon timeline has it slated for a May release.
  • The Incredible 2 could wind up as a global device.  I’m not hearing any signs that it will just be a re-hashed version of the supposedly-cancelled Merge, but another bigger-screened Incredible (4″) with a new radio.  Current Verizon timeline suggests a March release date.  Seems early?  I thought so too.

Again, all rumors for now, but we just like to share the latest info from our guys on the inside.

Thoughts?

Any news on a front facing camera for this device, or with that only be available for the Bionic?

  • Thatdroidguy

    I will consider getting the X2…..IF U DON’T LOCK IT…MOTO!!!!!!

  • Tarsis Brito

it needs to have 4g and front facing camara and hd display for me to get it

  • Rousellbrandon

I just want vanilla android. This is what im looking for.and making 3g only phones only proves 4g will cost more.

  • Anonymous

For me, if the X(2) comes with a dual core and maintains the hdmi out, it will be a more “practical” device then the Bionic since I probably won’t see 4G goodness for over a year… maybe two. By that time I’ll be ready for another upgrade and something better then the Bionic will probably be out by then (although I realize I’ll be playing the odds with this logic). Other then the 4G capability, what would the Bionic have on the Second Edition X with a dual core?

  • Grasshopper239

As someone who won’t have LTE till at least 2012, I will welcome some dual-core love for those of us on 3G networks.

Bionic or droid x2? At least one better have an unlocked bootloader.

At this point the only thing I know for sure is my next phone will NOT be made by motorola :)

  • Apfire21

My brain hurts….. too many decisions!!

I thought I posted this, but apparently not.

A global Inc 2 would be great, but aren’t the coming LTE phones inherently global anyway? LTE is supposed to be backward compatible with GSM, some claim with all GSM frequencies. If that is the true and the LTE phones have SIM slots, aren’t they then global super duper phones? If that’s not the case with LTE, what’s wrong in that understanding/logic?

Answering my own question. Although an LTE phone will work on GSM, LTE SIM cards are different than GSM SIM cards. The other thing is that LTE SIM cards report back to the carrier, unlike GSM SIM cards where the lock is with the card. So I guess we can roam on GSM with an LTE phone where Verizon has an agreement. Apparently this can be very expensive. In time as LTE grows internationally, we should theoretically be able to get LTE SIM cards for international use. I think I generally have that right.

  • Bigsike

DX2 not 4g?…um my DX1 will be staying around for a while :-)

I like me some Droid SEX

Hmm… didn’t know Lucas films was active in the adult entertainment industry.
Sounds like it’d be too noisy for me haha …alright ill stop

So if the Thunderbolt comes in Feb. And is LTE how the hell are they going to charge you for it? They can’t charge you for a service impossible for you to use!

  • DROIDxKID

I loved the droid x when it came out. I want a high res screen, tegra 2, front facing camera. and decent thickness. Who needs LTE? And screen size, 4 inches is enough those 4.3 just makes for a bulkier phone that eats up more battery life.

    • Tarsis Brito

nope 4.3 display is the perfect size for these new phones with hd display i will take 4 inch but i love my 4.3 love my droid x but i will get the bionic over droid x 2 since it will have front facing camara hd display

  • Jothen2002

Ill never see 4 g in 19 years either so these do interest me as well. I have been happy with the og droid since it came out. I bought it day1. As myupgradein july nearsi wonder about the new 3Gphones? Any front facing cameras?skype? Newhardware?if not then i probably stick with what i got or take the free dinc with best buy

  • shr1k3r

lemme guess, this will have a 1GB ram, gyroscope and all the fancy docks instead of the bionic but leave out the LTE

  • Lists

If you don’t want to pay the extra 4G rates then the X2 is the phone for you. Buy the Bionic and you have to pay for the 4G package even if you don’t use it.

Boo no 4g? I’d love to upgrade my X but not if it don’t have LTE.

Guess I’m goin bionic… I would have wanted the X2 since I love my X now but I need 4g if that’s the case

This is great! I want a phone with a faster processor, but don’t want to shell out for one that needs a 4G data plan since that service likely won’t be available in my area until the end of next year or 2013.

  • Red14

im guessing the Droid 3 will be dual-core, global radio, and a 4″ screen :)

  • Zach

Umm why would the Droid Bionic be 4G and come out in May but the Droid X2 won’t be 4G and also comes out in may? other than that difference what’s the point of having a DroidX2 and Bionic they are basically the same phone.

  • Anonymous

Maybe the x2 will be VZW’s version of the Atrix

  • Anonymous

Well this does make sense, they know they are going to sell more 3G than 4G phones next year so they might as well refresh the Android 3G flagship lineup before it gets stale regardless of the 4G releases. I’m sure they won’t be back to back but they can’t wait too long.

  • Qbrisco

I’m so satisfied with my DINC w/ froyo I don’t even care. Let me know when the phones go to work and cut the grass for you then I will upgrade.

  • Anonymous

Please let the DROID Incredible 2 be global!

    • Anonymous

      i’d rather have dual-core…. :P

    • palomosan

if the DInc 2 is 4inches and Global and has LTE, I think that’ll be my next phone.

  • Anonymous

so are you saying dinc 2 is NOT dual-core? meh

  • andrew8806

    no locked bootloaders maybe

    • andrew8806

      who am i kidding? lol

  • Romma1

Need more confirmed specs before I start commenting on which way to go. I can probably live without 4G for a couple of years because rumor has it my area won’t have it for a couple anyhow.

  • Anonymous

Considering I’ll be lucky to see 4G in my area within the next decade (I live in the middle of nowhere in Wisconsin), a dual-core version of the X might be the best option for me. I love the Bionic, but I’m not sure how pricing will work for a 4G devise that will only be used in an area with 3G. Lots of questions need answering. But at least I’ll have some options.

    • Markopolo1022

Move to a city with 4g .. lol jk

      • Anonymous

Ha. No thanks. I grew up in Philadelphia and spent 7 years in Minneapolis for college and grad school. I’m done with “city life.” I’ll gladly pass on 4G for a while longer if it means I can continue to live comfortably in Bloomer, WI (population 3,300).

        • Irish22022

philly and minneapolis? those are the suburbs, bro… (nyc, here)

if they don’t up the processor to 1.6 or higher, I see no reason to sweat getting a new device. I don’t need global, and I don’t need 4G. A rooted droid x, overclocked, is better then anything coming out this year.

          • Mrfickle32

philly is not a suburb if you live in center city or the south philly just life if you grew up in the bronx vs growing up on long island. dumb a$$$

  • DP

May for Bionic and X. Ughh. My contact is up in March.

  • Chris007jg

LTE, Global, Tegra 2. Until I can find it all in a package, I’m sticking as the OG.

    • CyberPete

+1 agree, I have a phone for USA, and another for the rest of the world. Sure would like to have just one nice android device.

  • Anonymous

X2 better be cheaper. Otherwise there’s no reason to get it over the bionic. Unless Verizon rapes us with the 4G pricing.

      which is highly possible…

I hear they are packing free vasoline in every 4G phone box

      • Anonymous

Vasoline? That’s borderline courteous. I’d guess something closer to liquid sandpaper(for the most unpleasant experience possible)

  • Anonymous

Why would they release the X2 and Bionic in the same month? I doubt it.

I bet X2 comes out in July / August timeframe with an LTE radio.

  • Anonymous

I still think the Droid X2 should be called the Droid Second Edition X. That way we can shorten it to: Droid SE X.

However, without LTE, I’m not sure it’ll be so sexy.

    • tbaybe

droid SE X thats some funny stuff :)

I don’t know how they expect to make sales when I can’t upgrade for another, what seems like 5 years.

So really what’s the difference between the X2 and the Bionic then?

Probably just 4G and 3G…unless the DX does NOT have a front facing camera (somehow I doubt that)…So you can get just the 3G if you do not live in a LTE area with the DX2

      • Anonymous

Since you need 4G to really make use of a front facing camera when not tied to WiFi it may not be a slam dunk.

        • Rick

I used Tango on 3G on Verizon and a friend of mine on AT&T iPhone 3G and it was great.

          • Anonymous

I thought tango was great too, then I used a web cam on a computer again and
realized how much my expectations had been lowered for mobile, or maybe how
high mine are for 4g. Though you’re right tango is usable on 3g and good
            over wifi.

Screen resolution is lower on the X than on the Bionic. Perhaps the X2 will be a lower priced device with the traditional 854×480 screen and 3G only.

    • Tarsis Brito

Damn! These are such hard decisions. First the Bionic, now the Droid X2? Decisions, decisions..this will be a tough one.

    • Corymcnutt

      LTE could help your decision?
