Project Elite ROM for the OG DROID

OG Droid owners rejoice! We’re finally getting around to delivering the good news about Project Elite! We have had a lot of readers and even a couple developers asking us to feature a post about this ROM. Well they weren’t yanking my chain as this ROM is solid as rock and has all the features, scripts, and themes a DROID Freak could ask for.

Here’s a quote I pulled from the the developer (Greg), who goes by the nick actngrezy:

“I wanted to have a ROM with speed, performance, but some of the features that a lot of people enjoy having. I wasn’t going to release this originally until I gave it to some testers and according to the testers it’s very very fast, stable, and it does exactly what it was meant to do which was very pleasing to hear.”

Fast and stable indeed! This would be a good ROM to push all OG DROID 1 owners into the new year.  A new developer, doing some amazing things all in his spare time because he wants to give back to the best community on the planet.

Download Project Elite: HERE

Instructions:

Sprecovery:
1. Download to root of SD Card
2. Rename to update.zip
3. Reboot into recovery
4. Click install
5. Allow install
6. Then install again
7. Reboot

Clockwork Recovery:
1. Place on root SDCard
2. Go to Install from SDCard
3. Select the file on your SDCard and install
4. Reboot

As always, I recommend a full backup followed by a good wipe of your system, so you have a nice clean installation. Let me know what you all think! You can find more info, support and all themes available, right here.  Donate!

is there a way to download this onto my computer, put it in dropbox, and go on my phone into drop box and install this? i lost my data cable for plugging into the computer…

    • Chris Nimon

That works great. Chrome to phone works even better.

      • Anonymous

i always forget about chrome to phone, i also reminded myself of rom manager’s new feature for webpush…that worked well too…thanks for hte ideas!

  • Brencentberry

great ROM only one prob how do i get my contacts back lol please help

    • Chris Nimon

Assuming you wiped data and cache, you get all your contacts back when you sign in with your google account at first reboot.

  • Addtoit

Installed it yesterday.. I do love it and all the features.. but.. My Battery Won’t Charge! Using ac charger for three hours, but its stuck at 40% charged.. please help don’t make me flash back to my old rom.. I tried rebooting, I have hear of a battery calibration? Not sure what to do..

That flashed that Project Elite ROM on my Moto Droid 1 and I have just 2 words to say..

Does anyone know how exactly to get your apps to re download from the market after a new rom install?? I really like the speed and options that have been put into this PE rom but I was running CM6.1.2 and it would auto start downloading my apps. I know I could use something like ti backup but I just prefer the fresh installs from the market. And its not just 5 or 10 apps I have like 90 something and that would just take to long to do one by one. Thanks for any ideas

    • http://twitter.com/brock_overcash Brock Overcash

using appbrain helps, then u can have the lists of apps and download them from the market, sometimes u have to click through and choose to install each one, sometimes it does it for u. I think it depends on the rom

  • Dougbloch

IMHO this was hands down the best ROM I ever tried on the OG Droid. Super fast and super stable. Wish it would be released for the Droid 2!

downloaded this rom last night….came from BB v0.6.1 which was great for me but the PE rom is very stable and fast….QS bench test came in at 1273 mhz, battery is cool, runs fast…PE website has several themes for download…installed the blacked out theme and love it…came with a miui music player that is outstanding and has music controls on the lock screen so you don’t have to unlock phone to access controls

I finally gave up on LithiumMod and moved to this. A very good decision I’d say. This rom is amazing.

“This would be a good ROM to push all OG DROID 1 owners into the new year…..or until Apple and Verizon seal the deal.”

awesome rom i have tried a lot of roms and this one is great.

  • KleenDroid

I’ve moved on from my Droid 1 a few months ago to an X, but I can’t help but miss it. The D1 could flash a new rom like no other! My X envies all you with a D1 that can try all these awesome roms out!

Hats off to you developers that continue to make new roms.

I followed your directions and the only thing it does after reboot is it keeps flashing the project elite crap…

    • Chris Nimon

Did you wipe data and cache?

    • Jfrer36Jake0

Yeah mine is doing the same. Do i need to reload to factory 1st?

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Travis-Royer/100000358962998 Travis Royer

yes! This has got to be, hands down my favorite ROM. I did have some issues with navigation, but I fixed it by uninstalling, and reinstalling maps and cardock. I highly recommend this to all of my OG Droid brethren out there. :D

Flashed stock and then flashed this. So far I’m impressed by it’s performance on a Slayer 1100 Mhz kernel.

  • Ggaaahhshx

A sucker is born every minute.

Look at the source code. Nothing is different.

    • Jimmy Utah

No. Nothing is different at all. Stock runs so much better. Just go ahead and stick with that and you should be fine. Actually you should flash 1.6…. that will be good for you.

  • Jimmy Utah

Best ROM ever!!! Ill sacrafice my power bar for the battery life…. holy cow. Charged this morning, good amount of use all day and still at 70% at 630 pm.

Ill have to suffer with widgetsoid until they add the power drop down on the notification bar. Hint hint PE devs :)

    THIS THING IS STUPID FAST

  • Bikedude

Been running this thing for a few hours now. Was missing a few shortcuts I was used to with CM6 and UD at first but this rom rocks at 600mhz. Lesson.. keep things simple. Nice ROM.

  • Tsteege

I love it. Great job Devs and editor. I will follow this one pretty close.

  • Lists

What’s an “OG” Droid? I know what a Droid 1 is, but never heard of an OG Droid. The only thing I can think of that might be meant is “original” but OG is not a recognized contraction, acronym, or abbreviation of the word original.

    • Anonymous

It is the original Droid… Aka D1 or Droid 1, etc.

    • Stephen

      original gangsta

    • Steve000

come on baby OG = Original Gangster. You know the Daddy Droid, Godfather of the Droids. Chairman of the Droid. The Duke of Droid, the Droidinator, Chief Droid.

      • Lists

If Droid 1 is gangsta I’m glad I got rid of it.

        • DBK

          Spoken like a true iCrapolian.

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Travis-Royer/100000358962998 Travis Royer

        That was epic. lol

    • Fyre

      OriGinal… OG… OriGinal… OG… OriGinal… OG…
Wow, maybe you should be up on the times. Keep up with the program. Times are changing… Keep the pace

      • Fyre

What’s the acronym or abbreviation for WiFi? Wireless Fidelity. How is that any different from OG? Yet you use the term wifi. And a lot of other abbreviations you use on a daily basis have no recognition with the full names. O ri Gi nal. I don’t. Even like original gangsta.
OriGinalDroid… OGDroid. Easy. So easy a first grader could understand. Infact, I showed my 9yrold cousin, and he got it. Really… wow

      • Lists

Maybe you need to go back to grade school… OG is not an abbreviation for original. Not in English anyway. Both letters are capitals so if it was an abbreviation in English it would be two words. So the “Original Gangsta” would be more appropriate, but an example of kid stupid stuff. Grow up.

        • DBK

You are the one nit picking at this (and started this whole “conversation”) and you are telling them to grow up? Someone needs a reality check.

    • OG gangsta

      shut up fool

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000475533643 Geoff Atteberry

OG – Original Gangsta. And yes, it refers to the Droid 1, just cooler than saying D1, or original Droid…

Hmmm… really liking Bugless Beast v0.6.1 right now, so I’m gonna need more info before I go flashing this. Saying it’s great isn’t quite as strong as SEEING that it’s great.

I was on Bugless too and switched to this about a week ago. I will never go back. By FAR the best ROM I’ve ever used. INCREDIBLY fast and stable. You will not be disappointed, I promise.

Here’s my New Year’s wish… I wish folks would be more appreciative of the Droid Life crew and the developers who provide all of the extras for us. It’s sad to me to see folks being so dismissive of their hard work. Happy New Year!

      • http://www.facebook.com/borgey401 Andrew Borges

AMEN!…… J Dub the source is out…. go make it no one is stoping you from compiling it, until you do tho don’t whine like a little school girl

      • Anonymous

People always like to bitch and complain about sh!t. F*cking ungrateful bastards. Next thing you know, he’ll be bitching and complaining that the Honeycomb roms aren’t out yet. It’s just better if he goes to sleep anyways, he sounds tired.

        • J Dub

So I said what we are all thinking…I guess there is such thing as a wrong OPINION.

          • DBK

The problem there is that we weren’t all thinking that (if anything you probably were one of the very few that were). Like the saying goes “Assume makes an ass out of you and me”, but in this case it made an ass out of you…..twice.

          • lollerskates

            boom roasted

          • Collin

But we’re not all thinking that… I’m not. I’ll wait for as long as it takes for the awesome devs to get the roms out there for us.

It’s fine to have your own opinion. However, please don’t force your opinion on the rest of us, and respect the devs who spend their time to give our phones awesomeness.

I JUST rooted last night with super one click. Am I able to install this? (root noob)

    • Anonymous

      Answer to your question: yes

Which program did you use to root? I tried Z4root with no luck.

      • banana bombs

        super one click

    • Anonymous

You need to download Rom Manager and Titanium Backup, then backup all of your apps on your sdcard using TB (if you care or have any apps to backup). Flash clockworkmod recovery with RM then backup your current rom with RM, download this rom to your sdcard and flash with RM. Wipe data and cache to make sure there won’t be any problems.

It might sound like a lot to do but it isn’t.

This is so amazing… but I don’t know if I can go without having a power bar in the status bar. That is the only thing that is making me skeptical… I might have to give it up :(

    • http://www.getintonursing.com/ Jon

Yeah I think I’ve settled on Bugless Beast with all of the excellent ports from 2.3 baked in until we see some real 2.3 Roms that are ready for primetime.

Could someone point me to a post or website that starts at ground zero for rooting, installing custom roms, etc.

PE4 is one of the most impressive ROMs I’ve tried (pretty much all of them, lol). Incredibly fast, all the right features, stock Gingerbread theme.. I ditched MIUI for it and I’m not sure I’ll be returning anytime soon.

    • Anonymous

That’s where I’ve been for a while (MIUI) Might be worth a look.

  • Anonymous

Yes…please…screen shots and more details would be great! I’m currently waiting for themes to hit Sapphire 2.0…might try this while waiting…

    • Anonymous

duh! all the info is in the link :P

  • mbruno44

I can stand behind this ROM – easily the best one I’ve ever run – only thing missing is the pulldown powerbar – other than that, it’s amazing. Fantastic battery life too. This is not one of the top 3 most talked about ROMs, but it should be.

  • tward09

Is this a new post? PE has been ad DroidForums for a long while. It’s on version 4 right now, and this is just v1. Could it be Gingerbread?

  • Anonymous

Finally droid-life features Project Elite4. This is absolutely the best ROM.

  • Fallsgable

FIRST….and screenies would be nice too!

    • miui is da shiznit

      Screenies would be awesome. :-)

    • Cgmartin33

Screenies please…is this a blind date? She’s really nice, she’s hot and she puts out…thats all great but I need to make sure she not bloated or cross eyed ;)
