i really appreciate this your good article, I love that feature, but there's no need for that here. When you download this, it replaces the old one. At least it did on my Droid X. thanks for this usefull informations

After following the tips to use Titanium Backup to uninstall YouTube, reboot and then install the new YouTube from the market, it installed! Thanks guys!

Delete it using Titanium Backup. It’s easier.

Same here…can’t find it on my Captivate…but if it is because of 2.2, then Samsung better get on the ball!

If you are using Root Explorer, navigate to /system/app. Once you are there click the Mount as R/W button. Then you can delete the Youtube.apk. If you are paranoid you can rename it to something like Youtube.old

Once that is done click Mount as R/O and then reboot. You must do this, otherwise it won’t work. After that just download the new Youtube from the Market. This has worked for me for the Google Search, LauncherPro update, and Youtube.

On my rooted DX I almost did this, but made a backup to see what would happen if I didn’t install the preloaded version and let the market one install (to see if the market one would install over the preloaded app). It installed fine and I only have one instance of the YouTube app. It works just like GMail did.

In my opinion this is how apps should work when installed from different “sources”. I can see double apps on the phone being an issue when there are a few app stores to download from unless the scenario is handled like this in the future.
