  • I hate to be drinking the haterade being a droid owner and a switcher from an iphone 3g but fuckkkk it takes google a long ass time to get us updates for our devices. Android will go the way of the buffalo if they don't step up their game big time. The day an iphone software upgrade comes out is the day every who has an iphone gets it.

  • Ok I dont know what to believe anymore…I just got off the phone with a Rep from Verizon his name is Scott.I explained to him that I talked to a gentleman last night and that I was just curious and wanted to confirm,once again, the OTA.I then went on to tell him that I was told the 24th of this month.He told me he had no clue why a rep would tell me that and continued to tell me that the OTA is scheduled to be tested again on April 1st.Ok!!!!!! Im getting to the point where Im honestly thinking of switching phones…I did ask him what the Nexus One and or the HTC Incredible would hit Verizon and he said that the dat was TBD.Ok so now what to believe…Ugh!….Im done worrying.Im to the point where when it comes it comes if it dosent then Im switching phones.Enough is Enough.

  • tried the 2.1 hk updater here in the uk……no joy, wonder if i set the phone location to hk and took the sim out or put a dead sim in if it would do the update!? might try later 😀

  • Ok everyone I took it upon myself to try and get a little information about this 2.1 update because I got tired of searching the net reading the same thing over and over again. So I emailed Verizon earlier this morning, I think about 1030cst. They called me but I was at work and the person left a message. Well then they emailed me. In the email the Verizon Rep stated,

    ” I hope you are having a great day! My name is Tony, and it is my pleasure to assist you today regarding the latest Droid software version availability.

    As a reflection of my commitment to you I tried to call you to personally assist you. However, I reached a voicemail and left a message.

    I have checked my resources and our system indicates that 2.1 version software for the Motorola Droid has been released already; however, it will be gradually sent to all our customers and it may take a few weeks before all devices receive the upgrade over the air. “

    Which makes me believe that it is in the process of being released. Maybe that's why certain countries is getting it, they're gradually deploying the update over the air. He also states that it will take a few weeks before ALL devices receive the update. Which also coincides with all the other information as to releasing 200,000 updates a day before all Droids are updates.

    So all in all, I think are day is coming pretty SOON. 😉

    • All he said is what we already know. Update was supposed to be out already, went out to the initial 1000 (supposedly.)

      • syntakk: You're right in a sense. However, the way I took the email was that yes they did release 2.1 to those 1000 users. However, they are now currently releasing the update but at a slow pace..thus the 200,000 updates a day until everyone has the update. I don't know, I mean it does kinda sound accurate at least to me. that would explain why certain countries is getting it first. I'm sure tomorrow there will be a post on here or over the net about another country or cellphone service provider that's has or is getting the 2.1 update. Who knows…hopefully it'll be the states. 🙂

        • Yeah I suppose it could be taken that way. I just want it to come out quick so everyone will stop complaining 😉

        • I would believe you if even one U.S. Droid user posted somewhere with credible evidence of an update. They just gave you the prepared notes…they botched the rollout, it will be months.

            The is a Poster on there that received the 2.1 update today. Although I think they have the milestone and received the HK version of 2.1. They also posted the site information if you want to download the SBF file. So with that said, I do think and believe that 2.1 is out. It just hasn't been released to the states yet, but I do believe that it'll be relased within the next couple of days.

  • Honestly, It really is pretty bad when they wont even give you any type of explanation. I feel like they are trying to be like Steve Jobs and keep everyone in the dark! Dumb in my opinion…. I am so close to rooting!!!

      • Ya… I said that the last 2 times…. im new to this in a way and kind of nervous but I am at the point I really do not care…. lol

        • root it with droidmod while watching the step by step video in the video tab above and you will be good.

    • Interesting that “Bluetooth support: support for Bluetooth headset multi function for initiating voice calls,” is listed as one of the new features. Also, up to 9 homescreens! I don't recall that being listed by Verizon. I hope we get this as well when 2.1 gets to us “soon.”

      • Funny thing; I got the update, am on 2.1 now, but got neither Speech to Text, nor the updated FB app, or the 3D gallery.

        Gotta call them up and check whats wrong…

  • Ok just got off the phone with a Verizon manager he CONFIRMED that the 2.1 update will roll out to 1000 users on Wednesday March 24th!!!!!!! then 24 hours after that if all goes well they will send them out 200,000 a day until EVERYONE has there updates.He also told me that there are some other goodies that were not mentioned in last weeks roll out of the 2.1 update.So keep your fingers crossed Droid users!!!!!!!

      • Well Flash 10.1 was what he hinted around to.But I guess we'll just have to wait and see.I'm for one am not getting my hopes up just to be disappointed again…If this dosent happen Im definatly MODing

    • Hope your right but haven't seen one person who talked to a rep or manager who has given any credible info yet. Wonder what the goodies are?

    • I do not believe this one bit…..as, according to Verizon “official word”, sited on this website earlier, they already rolled out the 1st 1000 test users…….either your rep was misinformed, or you are just playing with everyone's emotions………..

      • I am sooo not playing with emotions…Im just posting what Ive been told!..Im just as anxious about this update as everyone else is!..Im trying to help not hinder.

    • The operative phrase here is “if all goes well.” I'll keep my fingers crossed, make sure I hold my mouth right, try to obey all traffic laws… and I'll believe it when I see it. Thanks to Verizon for teaching me the real meaning of the word soon.

    • LOL. No. Maybe he has some inside info about the release date but there is no possible way that it would include flash. And why would it include extra stuff when the 2.1 update info has already been posted to the support site, as well as been listed in the official tech update list? Also, VZW has NO information as to the update rollout date, so unless he works in the department that deals with that or personally knows someone who does he is full of it.

  • Who will try installing UK version on US version? You could be the hero of the year. Please someone try it….lol

  • I spoke to a girl (some sort of manager there) in the cell department at Best Buy near me. She said a Verizon rep told her that the 2.1 update would be out in the next 10 days. Just another rumor to not believe…

  • Thanks droid-life for your info, I just updated my Milestone (Hong Kong version) to android 2.1! It took me less than half hour to do it!

  • Who care, it's all about rooting your phone. I love the Droid its a great phone, too bad the support sucks with respect to updates. I sure hope Moto makes changes on their Firmware roll outs because this is twice and still a no go. Bad Business

      • Exactly..that is why I said Moto should make changes, they are in business with bitfone. Its clear that they are not the problem, but they are associated with businesses that create problems for them (Moto) but they're ultimately going to get most of the blame.

  • If Moto is the common denominator, and if 2.1 is spreading around the world, doesn't it seem like VZW is problem here?

    • No, on my computer it doesn't detect my phone. I'm guessing it's because of the Telus branding.

  • It's pretty sad that I even care enough to check for news on 2.1 updates about ever hour, but some reason I can't help myself. It would be nice if Verizon would at least say something other than “it's not delayed” rather than the rumor mill continue to churn.

  • Well it is good to know many people will be buying Motorola smart phones from Europe for years to come, but for me, and most in the US it appears Google only will now win out due to Moto's and VZW fumble here.

  • Maybe it's because here in the states we can't shut up about 2.1every forum and every post on facebook or moto site on facebook is someone yapping about 2 dot 1. Rooting is the new thing lol …… The less you complain the earlier you get it. Damn you Europe Damn you to hell ……..Lmao!!!
