Cell Phone Inventor Drops iPhone for Droid

Other than Motorola continuing to twiddle its thumbs with the Android 2.1 update for our Droid, we have yet to hear any horrible news concerning this amazing device. And to keep the string of awesomeness alive, one of the readers of Android Central just shared a CSPAN video which has the inventor of the cell phone confirming that he has dropped his iPhone for our little friend. Yes, I just said the “inventor” of the cell phone…

“Depends when you ask me. I always have the latest cell phone, and I try every cell phone out, only because people like you keep asking me. Right now I’m using the Droid, because I want to get some experience with the Android operating system, and I, so far have some favorable results.”

Anyone else doing the happy Droid dance while pointing and laughing at their iPod Touch? Maybe I should have kept that to myself…

Android is far superior in this respect. And jailbreaking it voids the guarantee, that is not to say that Android users are not guilty of this, but in general, we can install any program we want without rooting our phones.

Now I'm all grown-up and I own and have played collections of both series.

If you can squeeze pure unabashed fanboy joy like that out of a quote like the one in your post, then you've clearly got some logical disconnect somewhere in that multicolored noggin of yours.

And “it depends on how you take the word 'drop' I guess”? Heh, riiiight. Even if I were to feel generous enough to pretend even for a minute that you meant that headline to be anything but a “take that, Apple!”, your post undid the whole thing rather neatly.

Unfortunately, I too love spewing digital venom through the ether. However, Coward this site is for people that are grateful Verizon finally did something right, that we have a cool toy that serves us well and IMO, matches the interactive nature of the iPhone. Not to mention…I haven't had one dropped call!

What you continue to fail to realize about yourself, is that you continue to take time out of your day to venture to a site which you are obviously irritated by and continue to try to make some point or put some sense into a situation which you created. Not that, is quite laughable.

On a side note, what's wrong with saying “Take that Apple!”? This is a blog.

Still not understanding why such a simple post has taken you completely out of your day repeatedly. I guess I'm doing something right here. Maybe it's just the popularity of the post that's irritating you while it whips around the internet where people like making fools of themselves.

The only reason why I'm a Droid owner as of now is because VZW and Apple hasn't come to their senses of making a deal. In a heartbeat, I will be switching over to iPhone due to the fact of being a mac user for over 10 years.

I do love my Droid, but iPhone is in its own league. There are smartphones and pda's, and then there's the iPhone…

I know for a fact that significant amount of US users will jump ship from AT&T and being an Android phone owner when iPhone becomes available to VZW. Imagine the hysteria!

I understand your allegiance to Apple and iPhone. Simply stated, if you own a Mac, its connects like no other device. However, the iPhone is in no way a better device than the Droid, or several other smartphones. Don't kid yourself thinking the iPhone is any different. The iPhone is highly polished, and is a very sleek device, but you have to look at the larger picture.

First, the Android phones, in general, seem to be better constructed [metal vs plastic/glass vs [i'm not really sure what the majority of Android screens are made of but its sure as hell tough]. I've seen iPhones break pretty easily at times, mostly their screens getting cracked. With exception of the G1, I have never seen an Android device's screen break.

Second the lack of a removable battery is irksome and a huge [and I mean HUGE] design flaw. To have a phone that you can't remove a battery for is just… stupid. For a device that most would consider essential, not being able to switch out a fresh battery, or replacing a dying battery is just ridiculous. For their computers I understand, chances are your computer won't die where you won't have an outlet available, and even in the case that it does, it is not an essential device.

Third, it is locked down. Unless you jailbreak it, you really can't do much customization. Android is far superior in this respect. And jailbreaking it voids the guarantee, that is not to say that Android users are not guilty of this, but in general, we can install any program we want without rooting our phones. The only things that people root for are latest ROMs and overclocking [primarily].

Lastly, and this is probably the most broad point… Each phone has its users, and all have their flaws as well as benefits. Most business users will never move away from BlackBerry, and for good reason. It is by far the most stable and has certain things that make it very appealing to business users. iPhone has many apps, and is a well rounded device. Many users use iPhone for a few reasons. Because it simply looks cool, it is a well developed platform, and it is simple [for most] because of iTunes [personally I hate iTunes, and think its a horrid program, and it makes using any Apple media device a hassle]. Tinkerers and people wanting an open platform wants the Android. And I'm not really sure about the Palm. People use WinMo because it syncs EVERYTHING with your windows computer.

No one device is superior to another, because there is a device for everyone. The iPhone is no super smartphone, or in a class by itself. It has its own problems and shortcomings. But so does every other device.

I appreciate your feedback Tom, and everyone is entitled to their own opinions and preferences.

As you had pointed out, there are no perfect phone/devices out there and each has its own pros and cons, but keep this in mind that iPhone was the blue print, the innovation that started it all of today's existing touchscreen smartphones/PDA's, including the Droid.

I agree that not having a removable battery is a huge setback and wish they would come up with a removable version, but overall, the platform of the iPhone makes up for all its flaws, especially how nicely iTunes app works so gracefully for music and beautiful cover flow and that's just covering one app of the iPhone.

Does Droid have more capabilities than the iPhone? By far, yes! cause Droid device is still considered as one of the most recent devices out in the market and the current 3GS iPhone has been outdated for quite some time, which is why 5G (5th generation) is set to come out this summer and will once again cause a quite stir and turn many heads.

Again, don't get me wrong, Droid is a greeeat phone and I am impressed by its own capability, especially the google map/navigation which puts iPhone to its shame, but if I were to choose between iPhone and Droid, I would have to go with the iPhone due to the reason I had stated on my previous post.

Maybe I'm being bias due to the fact of being a graphic designer, and been working with mac for a long period of time, but I must say Apple has been revolutionary over the past decade and been pushing the envelope in so many levels. Now did all their products succeed? Of course not, but they always do succeed in stepping out of the box not being afraid to come up with new, groundbreaking products, which later on inspires other developers in following their footsteps.

What irks me about this post is the headline itself, blowing things out of context by stating that “Cell Phone Inventor Drops iPhone for Droid”. To me that's a pathetic attempt in trying to convince people to think otherwise about the iPhone — all this proves is another resentment, an animosity I witness for iPhone being such a huge success among its competitors.

That says something right there. The iPhone is all about apps and “Jailbroken apps” The Droid is all about kernals, overclocking, and just plain fun. I encourage every iPhone user to really dig deep inside a Droid. Once you do dig deep, ask yourself, would you go back to an iPhone??? I think NOT!

I too have Drop my iPhone 3gs for my Droid now when I look and hold my friend iPhone it doesn't even look the same since I got so use of this droid beautiful screen display. Hands down the droid is a way better phone IMO

lol, I do not own an iTouch my sister does, and I remember before droid I was always annoying her so I can play with her iTouch, but since I got my Droid it feel weird every time I have the iTouch.

Ha ha ha I commented on this on the previous post. Man…I thank god everyday for making me drop my Iphone to switch over the evil empire DROID. I know Google had no evil policy, but clearly we can see our DROIDS are just damn cynical.
