  • They add a sleep/wake key to the navbar AFTER moving the hardware button to a reasonable position. Nice going, HTC.

  • Sure, I am a little disappointed after the evleaks render. But I just noticed that despite the blackbar and speaker bezels, the M9 is actually about the same size as the S6

    M9: 144.6 x 69.7 x 9.61 mm 157g
    S6: 143.4 x 70.5 x 6.8mm, 138g

Thickness isn’t a big deal, if the M9 curves toward the edge like its predecessors. I am really surprised though that the height and width are practically the same for both. I was always under the impression that HTC’s black bar/bezel made the phone taller than the S series. And the S6 has a 5.1″ screen too. I guess in terms of extraneous features, BoomSound speakers would be better choice than fingerprint scanner, for me personally anyway

  • Closer to perfect than the M8. They did a lot right by keeping it 5″ 1080, and they (we’re assuming) improved the camera, and they reduced the bezels. Only thing left for me to complain about is the lack of wireless charging, and the black bar.
If the bootloader is unlockable on Verizon, this might be my next upgrade.

  • Did the previous version of Sense allow custom on screen buttons? Because that picture has a 4th on sreen button.

    • I am. I’m coming from a dna. The Battery life alone will be a welcome change.

      • yep, same…not to mention improved boom speakers and cameras. Sense 7 and 5.0.2 Lollipop baked in is icing on top

  • Can any HTC fan explain why the IR blaster is now gone? I use my Note 4 IR blaster all the time.

  • I mean honestly I’m disappointed that evleaks didn’t hold up with the design he showed, but that’s no reason to bitch about HTC correcting everything wrong with the M8. Instead, accept that this will be a great phone.

    • And sure it got leaked, but that’s because HTC had large amounts of hype under its belt. Tech fanboys need to stop hating on such a great phone

    • Sounds like a perfectly reasonable way to to handle the situation…

…which is exactly why I don’t expect any one to do it.

      • Exactly. Droid Life is so biased towards despising HTC when it comes to a comparison between it and, say, a Motorola. Not that either phone is bad, but which is more revolutionary hardware-wise? The guy is like “Oh, just the same similar all-metal unibody design that we saw last year” Instead of appreciating that it’s one of the few phones that has that feature. The bias is unreal here

        • Evleaks showed us a much better design of an upcoming One M9, taking into account the reputation of Evleaks, we wouldn’t doubt. That render also put our minds at ease giving something we should expect. But to get something that is the same along with “obvious” design cue it would have gone a lot better had HTC introduced that other design and had better design the black bar situation it would be much lighter here in this site, where the right aesthetics is appreciated.

        • DL and HTC have a, let’s say, a strained relationship…so no invites. See how well that bias works out?

          • No invites? To what? We get invited to all press events, but chose not to attend MWC this year for other reasons, mainly for the reason that it’s in Barcelona.

          • Oh I was under the impression that HTC doesn’t invite DL anymore? That’s what I meant, I know you get invites to all the other events. Really? I’d be all over the chance to go to Barcelona! 🙂

    • Exactly.. As soon as everybody gets over the fact that HTC didn’t do some radical redesign of the body, they will accept that this is a top tier device. Is it worth an upgrade from the M8? hardy.. Anybody coming from a 2yr old device, this is a very nice upgrade. I’m intrigued by this device but I will have to mull it over a bit.. I’m really not sure I want to live without wireless charging now that I am used to having it.

      • I wouldn’t blame you. I mean it just annoys me that Droid Life is essentially reviewing and criticizing it and they don’t even have the phone in their hands. I have the M8 and love it. While it doesn’t completely mean I’ll be dying to make an immediate switch to the M9, it simply means that it urks me people criticize the flaws they went ahead and corrected

  • It’s almost hard to imagine that just a few years ago, garbage phones like the Blackjack were at the top of the heap, and now we have super computers in our pockets.

    • I think Samsung will do well without it if they offer the right storage at good pricing. Seems like a step in the right direction.

      • I know one company that has! Just offer enough storage and the customer will always be happy!

          • Yeah, but they are still using 16GB in their base model. Is that their best selling?

          • Yes cause it’s their cheapest. Supply issues were biggest on their 64 GB models after release though.

          • No clue what the best selling is. But if it is, people must be happy to buy it! They are selling a sh*t ton of them. Not trolling, just saying the model has worked well for them, and could for Sammy also!

          • Yeah, Apple also is rather greedy. Charging $100 more from the iPad Mini 2 to the iPad Mini 3 just for the Touch ID functionality is one example.

          • It was the new model, what did you expect? That has always been the Apple model for sells. It just meant you got 100 off for a pretty bad ass tablet if you wanted a mini. Worked well for a lot of folks if they just did some simple research!

          • Come on that phone was awesome. Shutting down multiple times a day, slow as sh*t…but that keyboard!!

        • Motorola does it as well as all Nexus devices so we really shouldn’t see any complaining here especially if the 64/128 options are widely available. And you’re mostly only able to get the 32gb models in the mentioned phones.

          • If they come with the 32/64/128 storage right off the bat, that is a winner for all!!
