Motorola Posts DROID X Froyo Issues List, No Timetable on Fixing

by: | posted 10.14.10 | News

The Motorola Forums manager has posted a list of pretty well-known issues that people are running into after they have installed Android 2.2 on their Droid X.  The list isn’t huge, but some of the problems have frustrated many of you since day one on Froyo.  They won’t release a timeframe for when these will be fixed, so try your best to be patient.  Here they are…

Stuck on Moto logo after reboot – this was tough on a few owners. Very sorry about that. A fix has been developed for this and should eliminate the problem. It will be distributed in a future software release. If you are still experiencing this issue, click here.

Random rebooting – while there always seem to be new conditions that can cause an electronic device to panic, we do have improvements coming that address and eliminate identified panic states. They will be distributed in a future software release.

WiFi connection and stability – improvements in WiFi have been developed, to address several problem areas. They will be distributed in a future software release.

Battery Manager “force close” errors – under some circumstances, pressing the battery icon under Menu > Settings > Battery Manager results in a forced close error. A fix has been developed for this and should eliminate the problem. It will be distributed in a future software release.

Media won’t play – includes “sorry the player does not support this type of audio file,” custom ringtone stop working, video won’t play, etc., until after a reboot. We believe we have identified the cause of these errors. A fix has been developed for this and should eliminate the problem. It will be distributed in a future software release.

Music files cutting off the final four seconds or so – a solution has been developed. It will be distributed in a future software release.

Put me into the “random rebooting” category.  Anyone else experiencing any of these?

DROID X Dominates Sunday Night Football Intro

by: | posted 10.13.10 | Videos

I’m actually pretty embarrassed to admit that we’re 5 weeks into the NFL season and have not posted this yet, but the Sunday Night Football intro features a Faith Hill in dire need of some devolumizer and our big 4.3″ family member, the Droid X.  Verizon, as you’ll see throughout this intro is a big time sponsor and we were a little slow to realize it.

DROID 2 Only a Penny, DROID X only $99 through Amazon

by: | posted 10.13.10 | News

To anyone who purchased a Droid 2 or Droid X over the last few weeks, please stop reading now or prepare to be slightly insulted.  Amazon is now selling the DX for $99, but even more shocking is the price of the D2 which drops in at $.01.  Yes, a single penny.  Our sources have mentioned more than once that the Droid 2 Global will eventually replace the original and with this insulting price, you have to start wondering if it’ll happen any day now.

Thoughts D2 owners?

And to those looking to snag one of these phones, head over to Amazon now to purchase them!

DROID X Theme Friday: BigDX Serenity

by: | posted 10.08.10 | DROIDX, Root

We’re thinking about bombarding you with custom themes for all devices today and the first one up is the Droid X.  This theme has been out for a while, but it just seems to get better by the week with new colors, pieces themed, and more support.  Say hello to BigDX Serenity in our favorite, pink!  Serenity is one of the few DX themes you’ll find that will actually take over almost every piece of your phone.  Some of the themes out there are just a framework update, but this is so much more.

Hate pink?  Don’t worry, there are 7 other colors at the support thread below.

New DROID Commercial Features Lookout and DROID 2

by: | posted 10.07.10 | News, Videos

The Droid AppSphere returns to the small screen, this time featuring a Droid 2 and Lookout Security.  The AppSphere was made famous during the original Droid campaign as a stylish way for Verizon to feature some of the top Android apps available on the market.

Video: DROID X Makes an OnStar Appearance

by: | posted 10.01.10 | Videos

The Droid X makes a pretty substantial appearance in the new OnStar commercial, showing off some apps that will be available to car owners with the service.  In the spot, the DX is shown as having the ability to check on the status of your car, unlock it, or start it from anywhere and I’ve got to admit that it almost has me thinking about going General Motors for the first time in my life.  Wait, is GM still making cars?

The 27 second mark for those impatient peeps on a Friday.

Cheers Brandon!

R2-D2 Lock Screen Ported to DROID2 and DROIDX

by: | posted 10.01.10 | DROID2, DROIDX, News, Root

The R2-D2Droid 2 lock screen has been pulled from the phone’s system dump and is flashable to both the Droid X and Droid 2 as a MetaMorph theme.  The process is pretty simple, but at this time is only available to rooted users.  I’ve included this in the instructions, but PLEASE MAKE A BACKUP.  Any time you are tweaking framework on a phone, you need to have a backup ready to rock in case something goes wrong.

Download:  lockr2d2.zip (alt link)

*Warning* – There is risk involved when flashing custom ROMs, themes or rooting your device.  You accept all responsibility should something happen to your phone during this process.  You’ve been warned.

Instructions:

1.  You have to be rooted.  (Instructions)
2.  You need to bootstrap the recovery using Koush’s Droid 2 or Droid X Bootstrap.
3.  Boot into recovery using the Bootstrap and MAKE A BACKUP.

(backup and restore>backup)

4.  Download and install MetaMorph from the market.
5.  On your SD card, create a folder called AndroidThemes.
6.  Download the lockr2d2.zip from above and unzip into your AndroidThemes folder.
7.  Open MetaMorph, allow it to perform checks and give it superuser access when prompted.
8.  Choose “Pick existing theme” and then tap the “lockr2d2.xml” file.
9.  Tap on “SubTheme:  framework-res.apk” and apply it.
10.  Your phone will load the new framework and will more than likely reboot.
11.  When it reboots, you should have your new Star Wars lock screen!
