But I’m cool with touchscreen only keyboards, especially on the nice big screens we have now. Losing the precision stylus capabilities, though, is kind of ridiculous.

This isn’t overly complicated. Unless you’ve got tiny pointed fingers, there is no way you can take notes, highlight text, or sketch as well with your finger as you can with a stylus (or yes, something like it such as the S Pen). It makes no sense than the newer phones have all but lost that capability. And with the stylus/digitizer tucked into the body of the phone, if you don’t want to use it it’s not going to be in your way.

People freak out when you suggest change. They get sold by marketing on what’s “cool” and can’t imagine going to something they’ve been convinced isn’t “cool.” A digitizer pen or some variant simply makes sense. Enormous sense.

No way to know for certain, but I’d be willing to bet a market leader on providing that, so long as the phone is otherwise desirable, will eat other manufacturers’ lunches.
