Question……have any of you Galaxy Nexus owners received a text from Verizon telling you that you are eligible for a phone upgrade? I’m nowhere near two years in yet. Is VZW trying get these off the market or something? I called my local store to confirm my upgrade, and its legit.

running a custom rom I’m assuming. That’s not nexus, that’s counting on developers to make sure you’re phone is running the latest software, not google.

I run AOKP on my gnex and i’m just about always on the latest software, and nexus phones are easily the best for running custom AOSP roms….however, having to count on verizon to gives you stock updates gives a pretty loose term to the definition of nexus.

I’ve had the nexus for about 9months now if I was you I’d buy it and root it buy the Hyperion 3800 mah battery for it with the case with the kick stand you won’t notice the thickness but besides that great price go for it

Having a Nexus requires me to install a custom ROM to shrink the size of the onscreen buttons. I cannot stand them using up my screen space.

I had the 1850mah, which had 6 hours of usage. The 2100mah had 8 hours. Just caved and bought the 3800mah tumor. I just got tired of having to charge so often.

It is their own fault they didn’t do their research. Google would make a phone just for hackers. That why it is a DEVELOPER PHONE.

Or you could leave the stock ROM and just alter the height of the buttons by finding the file and modding. I did this with my Archos 70 because there weren’t any ROMs that altered the soft-buttons.

Not all people. I have an N4 that I have yet to put a custom ROM on because “it just works”. I like the immediate official updates from Google more than I like the extra tweaks provided by custom ROMs. If your phone is not a Nexus, then I recommend a custom ROM just to enjoy a more stock-like experience. But if you have a Nexus, it’s not really that essential to flash a custom ROM unless you’re into that sort of thing.

No, that’s an “Android experience”. A “Nexus experience” is fast, official stock updates from Google with no manufacturer skins or carrier bloatware. Custom ROMs on a Nexus is an option, but not a requirement as it is on most other Android phones

FYI: The latest CM10.1 does OTA updates for you. It’s seamless and very close to a stock like OTA experience. No “wiping and restoring” as you put it. I know it’s not the pure Nexus experience you are asking for, but it’s pretty damn good if you are stuck with Verizon.

Doesn’t Cyanogenmod 10.1 pretty much do that? (with a few minor extra features added in to the stock experience)
