Nobody. They don’t expect anybody to pay for it. You want to know why they’re doing it? That way, if you do it, they can sue you for theft of service or something like that. It’s genius and fucked up.

I had been pondering buying a Motorola droid for a couple of weeks. I read loads of reviews and this one was very helpful http://search4reviews.net/ , I received my order last week and am very happy. I Would highly recommend to anyone still unsure.

That may have a lot more to do with verizon not carrying any attractive, business worthy Android phones. Passed on Optimus G, passed on Xperia… anything, and gives us hideous (regardless of how well made they are) Samsung and Motorola handsets and a unacceptable compromise of a phone, the DNA.

Good thing the FCC didn’t see it that way when it fined VZW for violating open access rules on their LTE network when they blocked access to the tethering apps on the Play Store.

So once again..No I had it right.

Except… the device still has a CDMA radio in it which forces the device as a whole to play by VZW’s rules. If the device was LTE only without a CDMA radio inside you would be correct.

The Moto dev community has been making some amazing roms even with a locked bootloader. Their stuff runs better than my Nexus 10 roms even.

I think your confusing SIM Lock with Bootloader locking. The DCMA rules apply to SIM locking I think. That is what ties you to a carrier (which is what the rule you provide a link to is talking about from everything I’ve read about it on other sites). Unlocking your bootloader by itself does not give you the ability to leave your carrier, you still have to SIM unlock your phone to do so, which generally requires gaining access to unlock codes. So, while it is confusing because we tend to think of “unlocking” as bootloader unlocking, from what I can tell the law is actually talking about SIM locking/unlocking, which is quite different. So again, yes, it is a bit like charging for tethering, and blocking all other methods of tethering. I still don’t see how its much different.

It has to just to go to Verizon, as of last year they no longer sell any smartphone that is not LTE capable

“To me, this seems like the same charging for tethering nonsense the FCC shot down a little while back, stating that Verizon cannot block tethering apps. In the same way, they are basically opening themselves up for the same issue with bootloaders.” Don’t think so http://www.theverge.com/2013/1/25/3915414/psa-unlocking-your-phone-without-carrier-authorization-is-illegal so basically Verizon can now charge a fee legally for this – this is for sure not the same boat as tethering. There was never legal support for tethering, for locked bootloaders there is as of Saturday.

And you NEVER BEEN on Verizon in your entire life but as usual you comment like the basic fool you have always been. Least we have experienced Verizon i had 2 lines for 9 months far more and better than your pitiful experience on boost mobile with your useless Samsung Moment you had for 2yrs. And now with your crappy Galaxy Nexus on Sprint. Your probably on your mothers bill cause people don’t stay prepaid for years then change to contract unless someone is helping them. If this is the phone that will not go splat when it is dropped, you can kiss a removable battery goodbye. But, if they put one that will run 16 hours with heavy use, I could care less.
