I had a chance to spend some time with the Razr MAXX HD. I have to say the hardware is surprisingly nice and solid. I hated the past MAXX and Razr. Im still not a fan of Motorola, but it is a nicely built piece of hardware (even if it is very ugly in my opinion). The software however is far from “light.” The only thing that is “lightly skinned” is they kept the original launcher, but dont let that fool you it is still very much the bloated, laggy, and buggy Blur we have all come to despise over the years. There is nothing light about it. They still have the very ugly icons, still have the horrible looking menus and overall look, and it still feels much slower than any of the other Android devices out there. For example I was using my GS3 side by side with it and it was night and day difference in the speed and fluidity. I don’t know why Google doesn’t scrap Blur and go with vanilla Android as they would win back some customers. The Razr MAXX HD just feels like a product that should have come out last year. This should have been the original Razr as it really is pretty far behind the competition. Not only this, but the HD display was a pretty poor display even the poor Super AMOLED HD displays with pentile on my GS3 and Galaxy Nexus looked better than this display. Motorola used to have the best displays on any smartphone back in the original Droid days, but they continually show they are more than willing to cut corners on display technology and it really takes away form the experience.

I pre ordered the employee edition Droid DNA (it has a red back and is limited edition can’t get it anywhere else) and will get it in the coming weeks. The best part is it comes with the charging pad for free and is only $99. I not only got this, but I also got me the HTC 8x as I was on the fence with picking this up as I was depressed the Nokia Lumia 920 wasnt coming to Verizon (at least right now). It was also only $99. I can’t wait they should be great. My wife is a little frusterated as I also have the iPhone 5 coming today, but I cant pass up on this great deal from Verizon for us employees.

Definitely a fan, but biding my time to see what the GS4 might bring. Not up for a discount till next year anyways
