This looks like a perfect first smartphone for my 16 yr old daughter. The price is right, the size is right, and it has fine specs. And I am now a fan of Samsung phones. It would not be my next phone (I got the Galaxy SIII a month ago and really like it.) but I think there is a market to get folks into Android with a decent device at a great price.

Glancing through the comments, I feel like people are missing the point. Obviously this phone isn’t marketed to the folks who read Droid Life, and hey guys, that’s OK!

I feel like this would be a good jumping off point for my mom to switch to a smartphone, for instance. I have a GNex running AOKP and have my home screens set up very clean and minimalist, and I can almost see her eyes cross when I hand her my phone. It just doesn’t make any sense to her….I would hate using this phone, but that doesn’t mean I have to hate the phone, it just means I won’t be using it. Except maybe to help my mom get hers set up one of these days.

Just root, rom, and use softkeys. I think you can even disable the capacitive ones on the S3.

just noticed that. it threw me with the design. the S3 look totally different. good catch but no need for the old “what are you talking about” comment. Ever look at something quick before? And it’s still just a jab at the hard buttons on my phone (which i hate).

I did not even mention Siri (which was an acquisition). iPhone has a better camera, and the PowerVR SGXMP Graphics chip.

I agree also but even after awhile the older top tier phones can look a little intimidating. I say let the top their devices trickle down in price but offer a phone like this to beginners. Cut out the mid range phones. Maybe bring in a beginners phone annually or biannually to ween feature phone users off of them and on to Android.

Depending on the unspecified snapdragon processor, yes, it could be faster. It’s probably not the S4 though. I could be wrong.
