on a side note, I have the unlimited global data plan, with and incredible 2, and today tried to pay retail for a Note2 and activate it on my account. The Verizon rep was not able to make the change. Any phone with LTE is not allowed w global unlimited. I am told I can keep the plan, and go month to month when the term is up, but no new equipment to support it. fyi

recently upgraded to iphone 5 last week for $200, and for some reason they let me keep my unlimited data as well.

what if you upgrade your phone on a line thats not unlimited data and then the next day switch the upgraded phone to the unlimited data line would you still keep the unlimited data for the upgraded phone you switched over to the unlimited data line?

FYI thewhen you up grade they will take you off unlimiyed data ..what Verizon wont tell you its that you got 14 days to switch back to your old plan .so if you get the upgrade just call back before the 14 days. And they will have to switch you back to unlimited dat

I have 4 lines and 2 of my lines have unlimited data. I have an available upgrade on those unlimted lines. What I did was that I switched my upgrade from 1 of those unlimited data lines to another line that doesn’t have unlimited data. And I ordered a phone, however my confirmation email said that my unlimited line had been changed and not my other line the one that i transfered the upgrade to. At this point the representatives cant help me because they say i have to wait until i receive the phone to see if any changes were made. I need help! i dont wanna wait until i receive the phone and not be able to get my unlimted data again. Any suggestions help!

They are still upgrading while staying on an unlimited plan. I just called and upgraded a droid x to the s3. I tried upgrading a couple months ago, the day after the new plans came out and they wouldn’t let me keep unlimited no matter what but the rep today explained that reps have a workaround, sounded pretty simple too. According to the rep, all they have to do is upgrade it under the new 2 gb plan, then go back in and revert that line back to the original plan. Maybe I just got a really cool rep this time since she also waived the $30 activation fee and applied my $50 discount.

Anyway, if anybody is looking to upgrade and keep their unlimited plan, keep trying, there are definitely reps out there who can and will upgrade you.

this add may be true but i just called vzw and spoke to a gal..she said that i can’t keep my unlimited data at all unless i buy the galaxy sIII at full retail..i told her noway..my friend at work was able to keep his unlimited data when bought the new phone…i don’t know why vzw customer service insist that i cant keep it…what the hell….

When I went to upgrade. I was told that i would lose my unlimited data. Though the guy told me i could “transfer your upgrade” from another line. I never went through with it but he said that would be the only way to trick the system to keep my unlimited data indefinitely.

I was able to upgrade to a Galaxy S3 this morning, and was able to keep my Unlimited Data. I was surprised because just yesterday I had called into VZW and the agent told me that in fact I’d be losing my grandfathered Unlimited Data, and he event went as far as to ask if I wanted to go into a tiered data pricing plan while I was on the phone with him so I could “be ready” when I upgraded to the S3. I was surprised to find out that at the online check-out, “Existing Unlimited Data @ $29.99 was the option that was pre-selected”. I am crossing my fingers that this goes thru and that I don’t get a call/email from VZW support to tell me that I ‘must’ change to a tiered plan due to my upgrade.

Working as an indirect vzw agent it really makes me mad when customers will not upgrade, or possibly even cancel vzw service, because they “cannot” keep their unlimited data. Many of these customers claim they are moving to sprint so they can keep their unlimited data, however what they don’t realize is that Sprint throttles data after 2.5g and that sprints network is awful, not to mention they have no lte coverage near us. Customers complain every single day to me about old unlimites plans, but when it comes down to it 90% of customers don’t even use 1gb of data and blindly jump ship to sprint. Seeing as I sell 3 of the 4 largest carriers I always qualify a customer to the best service for them, and almost always (90%) vzw comes out ahead of sprint.

I had the exact same experience a few days ago while upgrading to my new S3. My wife still has a basic phone. The sales associate was new and accidentally upgraded my wife’s line. When he moved phone back to my line it was no longer treated as an upgrade and I was able to keep my unlimited data. Thanks for the newbee!

I just got off a chat with a rep. verizon is indeed cutting out their unlimited data. the only way to keep it is to purchase phones at full retail therefore not renewing your contract. then they are contractually obligated to give you unlimited.

(btw) 80 bucks a month buys you the 10 gig plan (I think… don’t really remember but it WAS expensive to compensate).

I was NOT able to keep my unlimited data. Was a big bummer because I used upwards of 12 gigs a cycle on average. Guess it’s time to stop watching netflix and downloading videos etc. I opted for the 2gb plan because 80 extra bucks a month is way too much. It’s a shame too because the GS3 looks perfect for watching movies lol.
