Evidence is evidence. Being anecdotal does not make it a generalization, no matter if you believe it or not.

A generalization would be claiming all kernels decrease battery life. Evidence would be whatever caused you to make that conclusion…though you’d be hard-pressed to cover the “all” bit, no matter the evidence. “all” is a very broad and sweeping word that, likewise with “Always”, “None”, or “Never” almost always prove false. Very little in this world is “all, always, nothing, never, or none.”

My evidence is my Fascinate running Glitch, my Galaxy Nexus running faux123 (undervolted/overclocked), and my LG Spectrum running Blitzkrieg (overclocked, no undervolting).

The Fascinate went from an average of 6 1/2 hours per charge at (my) normal use, to just around 10 on stock vs CM7 with Glitch. (I acknowledge some of that improvement may be simply CM7 over stock…but can’t imagine that alone accounts for almost twice the battery life.)

The Nexus went from 8 hours to to … 8 hours. but the clock speed has increased and the voltage has decreased. More performance, no battery cost. Stock 4.0.4 vs. faux123 v14. (Never made it to 15 or higher if it is higher now because I handed it down)

The LG was the most telling. I would lose 40% over two hours from 100%. With blitzkreig, overclocked to 1836: I’m “lucky” if I lose 15% in two hours. It now easily lasts the entire day.

If you’d like proof the devices exist, I would be more than happy to take a snap of them. I can also take screens of kernel versions and voltage/clock settings. (Only problem being the snap of the devices would be short one, or I’d have to make two…as I don’t own a digital camera other than the phones themselves)

This one blows my mind…

Really? One’s opinion of a device must be all or nothing? It can’t change over time? One cannot like some things about it…and hate others? Mind blown…

I love the Nexus. ….or rather, what it could be. I love that I can install whatever I want on it. I love the developer support for it. The on-screen keys were a godsend. I also hate it. I hate the radio problems. I hate the color reproduction (which can be changed, which is why I said I could live with it), and I hate that I have to install volume+ to get decent audio out of the speaker if I want to hear my music in an environment that isn’t “quiet” (you’ll have to trust me and the hundreds of other folks who’ve complained about this issue as I am currently not in possession of a tool to measure db.)

tl:dr version:

I support my opinions with the evidence I have been able to gather from my own experiences and those gleaned from others online and present that. I don’t hate the device. I don’t love the device. I am human, and therefore often conflicted. There are things I love about it. There are things I hate about it. If you were one of the lucky one’s that got a good speaker, a good radio, and a good display-driver, I’m happy for you and also extremely jealous. I was not so lucky. Twice. Perhaps it has colored my opinions somewhat.

To your earlier remark: Yes, I love arguing. The art of discussing opinions, values, and rationales is lost on far too many folks these days. In my opinion, if you are not willing to defend your opinion, it isn’t worth expressing.

I’ll play along. Given that I spend my time, beta testing, bug testing, apps, roms, kernels and what not for various devs I can say with some authority the facts that I have presented. As I write about Android every day and study up on it, every day I, again, can with some authority present the facts I have. 

Generalization wise, where are your studies and cold hard facts? You say you have six phones and have tested this. Where’s the evidence? You suggest that your impressions have been the opposite of mine but without cold hard evidence that’s what it is. 

You can attack my being cute if that’s makes you happy. Go nuts! However, I can hardly take merit in what you present when you bash the Nexus in one comment only to defend it in comments later on.

 We can continue this until these comments get deleted if you want but seriously sir, that’s not going to change the fact that I think the Nexus is a great device and you don’t. Because let’s face it the “I’d love to see it because, I’ve gotta say, my experiences show the opposite,” is pretty generalized. Or am I completely off base in this assessment?

Huh.  Funny how you made a point of defending your precious Nexus…to the point of making absurd generalizations and multiple attempts at being “cute”.

…and you obviously care about how I emphasize words.  You do seem to go on and on about it.  How would you prefer it done?  Should I underline them instead?  Italicize them?  …or would you try and get all cute about that as well?  Is that your defense mechanism?

See, while I have been able to give detailed comparisons for all of my assertions, all I get from you is “cute”, more generalizations, and “Yeah, I compared too!”

That’s an awful lot of BS for someone that doesn’t care.

I’d love to see your studies on overclocking eating more battery on a modded kernel vs. the Stock OEM kernels.  I’m sure you have at least *some* basis for making such a claim.  I’d love to see it because, I’ve gotta say, my experiences show the opposite.
