Google Unveils “Project Glass” – Here are Your Google Powered Glasses with Navigation, a Camera, Music and More

google glasses

Prepared to be blown away. Well, sort of blown away. Google unveiled “Project Glass” a few minutes ago, which is a project from the Google[x] team that aims to make your daily life completely hands free. Rather than using your phone to take pictures, video chat, check into restaurants, listen to music, and get directions, you could have a pair of glasses that do it all right in front of your eyes. Received a notification on your phone? What if it popped up on screen in your glasses and then let you respond view voice-to-text? Or what if you could snap a picture of a beautiful sunset and share it with Google+, all without ever pulling out your phone? Sounds amazing, right? Just wait until you watch the video and start thinking about the possibilities.

The Google[x] wants you to understand that they are in the early stages of this project right now and that the pictures of the headset up top and the video below is what these glasses “could” look and act like at some point. They want your feedback though. And so do we – be sure to vote in our poll!

Meanwhile at Apple they’re still buying up IP and passing it off as their ideas, suing the pants off of companies, and passing off an aging/outdated OS as “magical”.

  • http://www.facebook.com/Chris.B.Barrett Chris Barrett

Too cool.  Not huge on the looks, but I’m sure it’d grow on me.  I can’t wait to see how functional these really are.

  • James J

So did we just see the answer to Siri along with The glasses being announced…I would love to see that software on my phone too! especially the calender and photo integration!

  • Bigsike

    I’m in!! :)

  • Greyhame

This marketing scheme is brilliant!  Why can’t Google get together and do more things like this, say to advertise the benefits of 4.0 and how it makes your life easier.

  • Pervie McPerv

I ain’t buying them until they offer porn.

    • Derek Gelinas

This is where the smart…. anything needs to go.

  • Josh515

I would look like I’m talking to myself, but I really don’t care. Just take my money!!

  • Tim

Apple already says they have a patent on this…they claim they own all the rights on anything that could be termed “Amazing” or “Innovative” (not to mention anything that may have been thought up for previously released sci-fi movies or television shows).

    • Vonny571

       Don’t forget “Magical”

Finally! I can take pictures of hot chicks on the street without having to point a camera at them.

    • http://www.gizmoninja.com/ Tabe

Yeah, but you have to audibly say “take a picture of that hot chick”! Awkward… =P

      • eddieonofre

add a comand that take picture when you blink twice! problem solved

        • PrjctArchAngel

      • Anthony Armando

you could also set the trigger word to, “THESE PRETZELS ARE MAKING ME THIRSTY!”

no one would suspect a thing….

        • eddieonofre

Answer: “There is 5 pretzels stores near by and one water fountain around the corner. Ok to Navigate”

        • Bob Martin

or change the trigger word to “The sausage in the toaster is burnt.”

    • http://twitter.com/redbullcat Phil Oakley

      Analog glasses..lol.

  • richardsonadm

I wear glasses already, if they can get it to integrate, that would be sweet.

    • http://twitter.com/Lancer033 Keith Hollis

i don’t see why that couldn’t be.  Google (or whoever) could make a frame with all of this built in and you would just have to take them where ever you get your glasses so have your prescription lenses put in.

    • Ralph Puerta

I would be happier than an Apple fanboy on release day.

    • Kjb_rules

I’m pretty sure they will make it possible to insert Prescription lenses into it no problem =) just have to have 200 bucks for the cut siz and installation fee is all =D no biggie =D haha.

Clearly Shepard has a TI Qualcomm Graphene QuBit z50 EPU in that bulky contraption. Seeing as it is waterproof to half Marianas’ depth and cant withstand an indirect Reaper death lazer blast, the bulk is worth it. I am a bigger fan of the 12.2 channel audio and 4K per eye rez. I haven’t yet benchmarked it against MetaGine’s Avalon 32.6 Beta suite, but I hear that the unit can crank out EgoTech 6′s old visuals for 7 days without having to find a wireless power transmitter in range… This can be really helpful if you get perched  on the Branson Space Tower doing repairs like I do at least once per month.

    • Hans Kwazneski

But they won’t be ‘inventing’ it…

      • Lee

But they’ll sue everyone who tries to use it.

        • Philip A. Kaiser

And it will come in white…

          • brando56894

            or black. nothing else.

    • Bob Martin

but it won’t have a camera, music, or notification. it will deff look better though. and much more shiny. but it won’t have as many features as the Google version. think about the comparison between iphone and android.

  • http://www.gizmoninja.com/ Tabe

Pretty cool. But I would not wear something like that and walk around talking to myself.

    • richardsonadm

Just like bluetooth devices right? lol. I don’t have one but…

      • http://www.gizmoninja.com/ Tabe

Yep. I think people walking around talking to themselves on bluetooth headsets look stupid and are annoying.

        • Blood

what’s so annoying about people walking around talking on the bluetooth? I don’t get why so many people have a problem with this. And look stupid? And If it’s annoying just ignore them nobody is forcing you to listen to their conversation.

          • http://www.gizmoninja.com/ Tabe

Yes, that’s my opinion. I’m sure that there are things that you find annoying and I don’t, and don’t understand why it annoys you . It has nothing to do with hearing what they’re saying, it just seems that many are unable to conduct a conversation at a reasonable volume on BT more so than no BT. It annoys me.. Stop talking so loud! And yes, it is my opinion that people wearing headsets, especially when not even using it, look silly
I respect your opinion that it isn’t annoying and stand by mine that it is. Nobody is trying to force you to agree. ;-)

    • Droidzilla

I’d wear these so that when I walk around talking to myself people won’t think I’m crazy. I’ll still be talking to myself, but people might think I’m on the phone or something. The voices won’t tell themselves to shut up, you know?

      • http://www.gizmoninja.com/ Tabe

        Haha!

  • Tom Stroeder

    Too Awesome!

  • Michael_NM
