Live Blog: Galaxy Nexus / Ice Cream Sandwich Event

It’s time to see what is new in the world of Android. Samsung and Google are about to drop Ice Cream Sandwich and the Galaxy Nexus on our laps – are you ready for them? Live blog is rolling after the break with the DL crew. Be sure to watch the event live with us though at Youtube.com/Android.

Comments are still open down below as always, but we also have this platform up so that we can easily share pics, instant thoughts, etc. as the show rolls on live. You can send comments through it as well, but we can only approve the really good stuff. :)

All I can say is Motorola better get busy putting ICS on the Bionic and RAZR… I’m definitely going to use the ‘block background data’ feature on the Verizon crapware.

  • http://zedomax.com/blog zedomax

WOW, seriously forget the razor, nevermind every smartphone on the market right now, THIS THING IS A BEAST!

  • Kierra

Razr has a  bigger batter I think its a 1800.

    • J Dub

      RAZR’s battery is bigger by like 30 mAh. Nexus = 1750. RAZR = 1780.

  • Shane Girodat

The only thing that may keep me waiting for the HTC Rezound is the lack of a microSD on the Nexus. Sense be damned.

    • http://twitter.com/Rocko9999 Rocko Smith

      No microsd slot? Lame!

  • NexusDuh

I think ICS will end all “skins”

    • J Dub

No. HTC has already released a statement. They mention Sense in it already.

  • Anonymous

The phone itself didn’t seem revolutionary. But the fact that it’s already on ICS is huge. Who knows when Moto will update the razr to ICS, and worse yet, how will the ruin it in the process.

    • Kierra

      Faster than htc, or sammy

where’s the battery cover opening, the sd card slot, the HDMI-out, etc?

    • http://twitter.com/Rocko9999 Rocko Smith

It in the same spot as the iPhone 4S.

  • Anonymous

Exactly my thought. And that’s a good thing.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=30814337 Brian Rokosz

liked the RAZR promo more actually, they made the phone just seem cooler…plus they spent more time on the build quality.  I’d rather have 4.0 but the way they tweaked all the cloud stuff for moto idk…the phone looks more unique too…this looked like a giant continuum with no ticker…idk..besides some of the specs i think the RAZR is just more fun…freakin KEVLAR man!

  • Anonymous

Honestly, I thought that  was pretty amazing.

  • Anonymous

Biggest question…will it be unlocked on Verizon?? With what they said about the RAZOR and Verizon not wanting it unlocked, that worries me a great deal!

    • http://twitter.com/Rocko9999 Rocko Smith

No, quit asking. IT will not be unlocked.

  • Nex

What are the chances this comes out on Verizon UNLOCKED without all that Vcast garbage

  • Vince Lewis

I love how every time I post a criticism about android I’m labeled an iphone user. I have a freaking OG morons. Am I not aloud to express my dissatisfaction? really??? you guys are all delusional—yes I want an iphone now—ICS is nothing special—sorry it just isn’t! Reality check—-from and android user signing off and soon to be all over IOS5

    • icu

Thank god.  Go talk to Siri…

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_MRXKXFO5F7NVWFJHNZFO7NEHVY Big R

I am an OG droid owner also.  I was hoping for a homerun as well.  After Apple dropped the ball with 4S, I thought Google would pick it up and score big.  I am less than impressed right now.   I will still get this phone because the 4S just sucks.   Maybe my expectations are too high.

4G LTE and SAMOLED+ HD are the two main points for this phone.  Everything else is ho hum, run of the mill.

  • Anonymous

I would buy this. Samsung made some of the best stuff on the iPhone which goes to reason that this phone will rock. So it will be purchased.

  • Anonymous

I have a question. Wasn’t ICS supposed to some how unify Android better? Did I miss any details on this? I hope I did bc that was the big thing about this release. I guess I’m just wishing we could all update to ICS without the middle men (Carriers!) involved. Some day we will hopefully look back and think, why were we all using different versions of Android? Maybe.

    • J Dub

Unify the tablet with the phone. Then when you pick up either an Android phone or tablet you will know how to use either one because they will have the same OS.

  • Kierra

I really wanted the voice recognition to be improved, instead of a face unlock. I think Google has really awesome ideas but they are left unpolished alot of the time.

    • Nex

I agree there are things left unpolished, but this looks pretty good.  I cant say i use voice recognition all that much outside of texting.

    • shdowman

Because most everything they do is Beta. It’s good, if they really sunk more development $$ at it to really tighten and smooth things up, it could be phenomenal.

    • J Dub

Google has already came out and said they didn’t get quite as much done as they had liked in this release.

  • Kierra

Seriously nothing BIG happened, a nice phone nonetheless. Nothing ground breaking and thats fine.

  • http://twitter.com/cforero83 Camilo Forero

Usually, with phone unveilings (Google and Apple), I’ll have one or two “wow” moments.  With this one, it was, Wow awesome videos and camera, Wow, love the new people app, Wow, love the redesign, Wow, love the side swipe gesture, Wow, NFC sharing is awesome, Wow, Facial recognition!, Wow, super fast photo taking, Wow, awesome screen.  I’m in love.  My Droid 3 might already be getting a new home in my fiance’s purse, hello Galaxy Nexus!

    • bigrob60

Seriously. I was waiting for clapping like every 2 mins. I started clapping on my own.

  • Vince Lewis

Fail. Nothing of worth added in ICS. You guys are delusional and I’m definitely considering a switch.

    • icu

lol get lost moron.  By “switch” you mean sticking with the apple 4s you’re salty about buying.

      • Vince Lewis

        facial recognition….useless..and didn’t even work
        voice recognition sucks
I’ve had a droid for three years now and all google ever does is….well nothing…boring!

Am at work, youtube doesn’t work on the computers here. Was a release date and price announced?

    • Anonymous

nope.. only said it’ll be in November.. no word on price either.. even though I think unoffficially we know what they are.

    • Nex

they just mentioned November, but not specific dates or prices unless i missed it

  • Hollywoodmanly

So what about Verizon? An official announcement on the date coming from them later? Because I don’t trust them right now…

  • Anonymous

here is a check with my name on it. Write down any number on this piece of paper and I will pay it

    • Granted

I work for Google, if you’ll gladly make that check out to Guy Who Indulges In A Morons Money.

  • Heresteve2

I am surprised there is no Siri type application here. That is the one feature of the Iphone that I really would like to see. I know we already have voice commands, but Siri is much better in my opinion. It recognizes geo based commands which none of the android apps I’ve seen can do.

  • http://twitter.com/john_ecko js

The phone is decent but it’s all about the OS!

  • Anonymous

did anyone else notice that they said the HSPA+ version will be 8.94mm thick? that means to me that the LTE version we all want will be thicker…just something to think about….still getting it no mater what!!!!!

  • Tysoncrosby21

Im laughing at those people saying “none of these features seem to out there to run on my_____”. Keep in mind there are 4G phones still on FROYO!!! It will be 4-6 months before another device can handle ICS, do you realize the HUGE leap this os makes from gb to ICS…. It’ll take a lot for Samsung/htc/Motorola to skin ICS to their liking and for carriers to give it the ok.

  • http://twitter.com/eXtremeDX Clint

    Galaxy Nexus….get in my pocket

  • Marvin de Pano

Salt levels at some Apple sites are already high.

  • Anonymous

did I miss something or did they leave out the details of the physical camera? All I heard was 5mp and that it’s good in low light.

    • http://profiles.google.com/crazyrunner33 David Flower

That’s about all we know.  Cool thing is that today Canon also released a low 18 megapixel camera to kill the Nikon 36 megapixel camera for their 7,000 dollar top of the line professional camera that as a result of the low megapixels attributes to awesome low light performance and more clear pictures.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_4TYLSXHHGEXCEVL675IGY6EUCY longn

They did mention that the HSPA+ version is 8.94 mm thick, So what about the LTE version? hope It wont be any thicker…

    • Anonymous

i just made a post about this…i think it DOES mean it will be thicker…why else would they say it like that

      • JD

Any word on the thickness of the LTE version?

  • Anonymous

Wow, my decision on my next phone just got that much harder…..Motorola Droid RAZR or the new Samsung Galaxy Nexus.  Don’t have to make a decision until Dec but man it’s gonna be tough.

    • Some Random Dude

i dont think thats a hard decision lol

  • Kianjudah

Im not sure what people are saying that they are disappointed about. I hooe they mean the feed quality. Cuz if you’re disappointed over the phone and/or ICS then you’re just dumb. Seriously. If so, just switch to another platform.

    • Jarred Sutherland

I think it looked pretty good, I will have to test it out before I make a final decision. However, the camera app was ugly. The soft buttons also look like a three year old drew them in a few seconds.

    • Kierra

dang, i dont think it was that impressive. Sorry I dont group think. I really like the android platform ,but the fanboyism that we’re expected to show is annoying.

      Calm down its a phone

    • Anonymous

I really didn’t get much of the phone presentation compared to the information earlier today.  Based on what I saw, The Razr has the edge.

  • Anonymous

When can we expect an announcement from Verizon?????????

  • Anonymous

We are totally blowing these comments up right now!

  • Brent Cooper8

Video quality horrible but definately next phone!!! Hello long wait till Christmas…

  • Anonymous

kind of disappointed about details on the phone itself

  • Some Random Dude

    Nexus-Life?

    • nexus on the brain

      nexus dash life dot com!!!!!!!!!!

  • ~dArK.AnGeL

UNLESS THAT RAZR’s GOT GLOBAL CAPABILITIES…. THE NEXUS IS MY NEXT PHONE!!!

  • Anonymous

Did you guys feel a bit worried that the word Verizon didn’t come up?

  • Tom

This is officially my next phone… If Verizon screws this up… its OVER!

  • Kierra

This camera will probably be way better than the Razr.

  • Znibbor

No release date? No mention of a verizon partnership? I’m concerned.

    • http://twitter.com/john_ecko js

The presentation was only about Android, Samsung, and google+

      • Anonymous

agree….Not a lot of details with the phone

  • Anonymous

    IM GETTING THIS PHONE

  • SleekDX

Was it just me or did anyone else notice the crowd to damn quite for such renouncement. Still think this event should have been here in the US.

  • Joshua Vario

I swear if they don’t release this until the end of November I’m gonna be irate!

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=200400756 Alexander Ma

Holy Crap, I did not see have that coming….my mouth won’t stop watering now….

    • Bionic

      my penis wont stop shooting

      • Granted

Then you need to take it out of your boyfriend’s anus, and stop thinking about Chaz Bono naked. Have you had no sex education training in school?
