Skype on Android Updated, Now Supports the Bionic and Tablets

Skype on Android received an update tonight that brought in support for 14 additional devices including the DROID Bionic and the Motorola XOOM. Tablet support was something that had been missing up until now, so this is pretty big news.  You can now Skype away with your friends, loved ones and stalkers from just about every single Android device you own.

Full list of new devices:

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 (T-Mobile)
HTC SHOOTER (KDDI)
Sony Ericsson Xperia Live with Walkman
Sony Ericsson Xperia neo V
Acer Iconia Tablet (A500)
LG Optimus Black LANDSCAPE ONLY
LG Optimus 3D LANDSCAPE ONLY
LG Optimus 2x LANDSCAPE ONLY
Motorola Photon
Motorola Droid3 LANDSCAPE ONLY
Motorola Bionic LANDSCAPE ONLY
Motorola Xoom
Motorola Atrix

T-Mobile Galaxy Tab 10.1?  Didn’t T-Mo just tweet about that possibly coming some time down the road? I guess we know now that it is just around the corner.

Cheers @0mie!

I can not able to use BT headset in Skype on my Sony Ericsson ‘Live with walkman’ smart phone.

  • sj81

Skype still has issues with bionic with random sign offs/crashes.  And I think sometimes it causes some random reboots.

  • Drblythe

I keep getting: Package file was not signed correctly on Droid Bionic

  • Mario Cantu

Just installed and confirming that Skype now works with the front camera on the Samsung Droid Charge.  Good times.

  • DroidFan

Still no love for the Charge’s front facing camera

    • Dask0341

Pretty sure I saw it on a list of devices before the latest update.  Just checked and it is listed!  ?

      • Anonymous

Yes, but only for the back camera. I’m pretty sure it’s the same for all outdated (2.2) phones. It’s sad that 4G LTE phones that cost way more money are not updated with priority by Verizon (or whomever is setting the higher prices).

        • Warlike1919

It works fine with the front facing cam. My wife as the droid charge

It’s about bloody time. Nothing more frustrating, than having two phones with front cams, only to find the vid chat apps either work for one, or the other (or flat at don’t work if both are compatible). Talking about Bionic, and Dinc2

  • Garemlin

    Works on the Asus Transformer.

    • Scott Willenborg

What’coo talkin’ ’bout Willis?  I didn’t see it on the list so I never tried it!  I’m going to go try it now!

I know no one that has Skype…

    • http://twitter.com/Skitz_Marz Alex Gandero

it’s not working on my transformer. no option to video call

    • Iammebane

how did you get this to work on the transformer

  • SOGJC

Motorola XOOM, Bad video quality compare with the Thunderbolt and Bionic. Anyone else??

  • Tomgillotti

How about finally getting out an update for the T-Bolt to allow it to actually use the front cam!?!? This is pathetic… rear cam only? Why did I bother upgrading my phone?

    • PSU_DI

My front facing camera works on skype, just not in google talk.

  • Me

    Oovoo works on all phones

  • Christophernapier

Will this work on the Galaxy Tab 10.1 Wifi?!?

Pugs are awesome. My girlfriend is heading to Germany for business in three weeks, and if she sees this promo, she will finally want to upgrade to a smart phone. Jst so she can see our two pugs while she is there.

What’s with Landscape only? That seems almost worse than having no video chat at all. When I tried a modified version for the D3, I uninstalled within a day. It was a joke to hold the phone side ways trying to chat with someone.

Why can bionic user not use it in portrait, seems odd

    • Wsiembida

Because of the webtop and the hdmi dock i do believe

  • Scott Willenborg

Where’s the Asus Transformer love so I can naked chat with my mistress… wait… is my wife reading this?  HOW DO YOU EDIT A POST??

    • http://www.facebook.com/TJHRULZ tjhrulz

NOT BY HITTING THE CAPS LOCK KEY!

    • Raven

I installed it to my ASUS Transformer via the Market link, but being that my tablet is at home and I am not, I have not verified that it worked yet.

      Lol

  • Kixofmyg0t

Sweet! i’ve been waiting for this on my XOOM forever!

  • Bert336

does that mean that the Verizon Tab 10.1 will not work?? o_O

    • Kixofmyg0t

Not yet. But give it time.
