Verizon Equipment Guide Says DROID Bionic Will Launch in All Channels September 8

There you have it.  Verizon’s internal Equipment Guide has been updated to show that they expect an “all channel” launch for the DROID Bionic to go off September 8.  There isn’t a mention of a direct fill option, so that means there might not be an opportunity to grab one early (pre-order) via the web or through a sales line like we saw with the DROID3.

One week to go, folks.

*Note –  The weight is listed at 5.60oz.  It’s slightly lighter than the D3 at 5.90oz, but that phone also has a keyboard.  Thunderbolt is 6.23oz, Charge is 5.04oz, and the DROIDX2 is 5.47oz.  So it’s not a massive tank, but it’s definitely no where near the feather weight of the Galaxy SII.

All the specs and details you could ask for after the break.

And here are some accessories that have already arrived in stores:

Cheers ___ and Raj!

  • Anonymous

Kellex, is there any chance you could ask your source to query the Internal Equipment Guide about the Samsung Stratosphere, which is also scheduled to launch on September 8?

    Thanks…

  • Gixxer1kdaddy

glad i’m a costco member. that package is the way to go.

  • Anonymous

This is awesome…till I go in the store and realize its $300 +2 years of my life.

  • Pennywise

    Thickness is .4″ omg it’s a TANKBRICKPIG!!

And this .4″ should be the thickest point on the BIONIC. The Galaxy SII is .33″ … OG is .5″ and is a thin phone imo – WOW I’m stoked!!

  • $%&# blackberries

kellex, does “all channels” mean it will be at costco on the 8th with that accessory bundle?

    • $%&# blackberries

and if i upgrade with my current unlimited plan will i be able to keep it if i upgrade through costco?

  • http://twitter.com/il_Sole_Leone Stephen Box

hope that application list is everything they are putting on if so very little bloatware for me as I use most of those apps

  • http://www.facebook.com/japultra Jason Nguyen

With all of the new phones that are slated to come out in the next month or two, I now have zero excitement for the Bionic.

    • Pennywise

What’s coming out in the next 2 months that has you excited?  And what about them makes you more excited?

  • Anonymous

hmm an extended battery with back cover, wonder if it will be similar to droid 3′s and be barely noticeable. picture on the box looks like an ugly protruding one though.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=10215724 Raj Bhatt

Yeah, I sent that pic in and the extended batt makes the entire part protrude except the hump. It sort of inverts the hump.

      • Pennywise

        Inverts the hump… brilliant!

      • Anonymous

ahh i see thanks for clarifying. that sucks, i would be interested if the extended cover flattened out the back even if it makes it a bit thicker but this protruding design is such a fail.

        • Anonymous

maybe a 3rd party will make one

  • Jadesblood

Try the little carts at the mall, they seem to have cases for the phones sometimes before they phone comes out. Knowing some of them they got stock of it from like 6 months ago Heh Heh Heh.

  • Granted

Did anyone actually read those toddlers arguing for four thousand posts? So depressing. I think those people need a life coach.

  • JadesBlood

This is not a deal breaker to me but I would really like to know if the LED will be like the OG droid or not? I really miss being able to change the color for times like when I have it on silent and it will flash the color based on what just hit my phone via (Text, Email, or Missed call). I have the Thunderbolt right now and its kinda a pain with only having orange and green.

    • Anonymous

Yes it has the same LED light.  Most motorola phones do

  • Daniel

    Is a pedicure an accessory?

    • David Brent

Lol, yeah Kellex at least paint your toes real nice of you’re going to take a picture of it!

      • Daniel

Whoah, that’s funny dude, you made it look like I responded to myself. Haha.

        • Anonymous

          You guys are dorks.

  • Anonymous

crap wish i could update my droid x to this phone..come on verizon you got me locked into a contract for life anyway lol.

  • http://twitter.com/UbernerdLord Christopher Settle

Any chance VZW will sell the accessories early?

    • Anonymous

It would be nice.  Im hoping that Amazon or someone has the cases for sale early cuz they are much cheaper than verizon.  Verizon will charge 30 for a case while Amazon charges 10 or less.

  • T Hall

So does this mean Costco will have it on the 8th?

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=789014095 Ron Kurkowski

As much as i want it i’m not sure i can pay 299.99 for a phone. Just not worth it to me

    • Anonymous

Wait a few weeks (if you can hold out) and get it from Amazon or Wirefly..or any of those online dealers.

You have to contend with an extra ETF the first 6 months, but it is usually worth it. :)

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=789014095 Ron Kurkowski

        Whats an ETF? :)

Sept. 8th, the day uninformed buyers purchase a Bionic.  4 weeks later these same people will call it the Cryonic when they beg for an upgrade to far superior phones.  Hype this phone all you want.  It does not have much going for it.

    Last phone from Motorola
    Locked bootloader
    Under powered
    Poor specs
    Pentile
    qHD

    • Anonymous

Why hello there irony, how are you today?

    • Anonymous

underpowered and poor specs? name me another verizon phone that has dual core and lte. none. How is qHD a minus? the higher the resolution the better.

    • Anonymous

I am not a fan of this phone, but even I will call you out.

      Last phone from Moto? Yeahhhh…no
      Under powered? Hardly
Poor Specs (when you already mentioned the specs being poor and underpowered)? Redundant and still wrong.

Don’t have to like the phone at all or what it is offering. That being the case, don’t buy it. But don’t spew out nonsense to try and derail people from getting something YOU don’t like.

Find another parade to pee on.

    • Anonymous

LOL, last phone from motorola?  Are you stupid?  Do you know that google bought motorola?

    • Anonymous

You’re one of the biggest assclowns I’ve ever seen, that’s saying a lot.

  • Anthony Alves

YESS! Droid Bionic Holster/Shell combo w/ the kickstand. My day has been made.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_MRXKXFO5F7NVWFJHNZFO7NEHVY Big R

9 weeks too late.  Based on specs alone, this phone will be inferior in a month.  This will probably be the best phone of VZW for a month.  After that, they may have to start giving it away or charging $500 for the other phones just to move this one.

    • Anonymous

Bionic will be a HUGE improvement over existing 4G phones on Verizon.  Upcoming…rumored…maybe coming when…phones, if the projected specs come out, will be incremental improvements over Bionic. Like the man said – go rain on someone else’s parade unless you have something factual to offer.

  • Justin

i got mine on “special preorder”. guaranteed one when it hits!

    • Anonymous

      Fail.  Total Fail BS.

      • Justin

while you stand in line, ill pass by and smack you with mine.jealous? you shouldnt be, its just a phone….

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=789014095 Ron Kurkowski

Sure you did and i already have one

    • http://twitter.com/hghtrebor Robert Hughes

“Special Preorder”=  Greedy sales rep that told you he would hold one just for you..WINK WINK.

Reality=   He isn’t allowed to hold one for you, as an order cannot be created until there is inventory loaded to sell, and basically you are gonna go in and get a “special backorder”. Not trying to rain on your parade, but the illusion of exclusivity, doesn’t really impress anyone here. We all know how the drill works.

      • Justin

Is it that unfathomable that a person be a close friend of a store manager? I realize there are very few verizon stores around….
I got my OG droid the same way. Im not special, and im sure lots of other who use DL have it like me. Im just over-joyed to get a new toy!

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=10215724 Raj Bhatt

I made my poor D1 take the pic of those accessories for it’s replacement. It is pissed at me and won’t make calls now.

    • Anthony Alves

Aww. I’m sorry. And thank you for the picture!

    • Anonymous

Hey, what capacity was the battery and extended battery?

  • Upr0ck1718

why wouldnt they have pre-orders for this phone?

    • Anonymous

To get as many people in the stores as possible and try to get them to buy the accessories and Xoom 4G LTE tablets

  • Anonymous

    Whats the URL

  • Anonymous

Any chance Amazon or someone will have accessories on sale before the 8th?  I’d love to buy a case on amazon for much cheaper than the Verizon store.

  • Manicfof

WOW.. and now here comes the ever so exciting “who is gonna get one poll” What is happening to this site!!

    • Pennywise

Well they got rid of the full page Tmobile adds and keep us up to date on the most highly anticipated Verizon phone of 2011 so… not sure what you think you’re implying.  That said, if you aren’t interested in BIONIC information, don’t-click-don’t-post.

      • Manicfof

Really? You think the most anticipated Verizon phone is the Bionic huh? WOW..  And what im implying is the simple fact that there adding to all the hype just like the news media does when theres a slight drizzle outside and they call it STORM WATCH 2011.. Feels like Droid-Life is just running out of things to post. LIke a poll about who is gonna get accessories for the bionic. Its like really? And i click and post cause its my right to do so if i please..

        • Anonymous

If you’re clicking and posting only to whine about it like many here than it’s also my right to call you a moron.  The Bionic is a Droid phone, this site’s name is called Droid-Life, like it or not it’s Verizon’s flagship phone until the next major thing comes out.

          • Droidfan13

Not only that, its called Droid-Life, and NONE of the other currently known “anticipated” phones are specifically known to be carrying the Droid name. What jack-hole can’t understand that a site, which is dedicated to covering news on the handful of Droid-branded phones released each year, would be extensively covering the release of a very highly anticipated Droid-branded phone. Not only that, the first Droid branded phone which has both 4g LTE and a dual core. I have a Charge and probably won’t even buy a Bionic, but seriously, stop being such idiots.

yes, and you’ll receive it in 2012

Dangit.  No pre order?  That really sucks.  Thankfully i dont work on the 8th so I will be able to hit Verizon at opening.

But yanno what else sucks?  If that $299 is after rebate it will take 4-6 weeks to get it.  When you order online its instant.  That really sucks.

Thursday is not here yet….be patient…

  • http://profiles.google.com/branshaw09 Brandon Shaw

Seriously, no pre-order?  Dang it!  I get my Madden ’12 in the mail today and was planning on playing until I could place my pre-order.  Now that would have been a perfect night!!  Not surprised though since they are doing the DroidLanding campaign with this.

    • Anonymous

Yeah its lame.  And it sucks if we have to buy in store and wait for our rebate to come in the mail

  • calhrim

I had thought from the FCC stuff that this was going to be a world phone… No such luck?  Or did I miss the GSM radio?

    • Anonymous

      That was only a rumor

  • Anonymous

Does all channels mean we’ll be able to get that Costco bundle on the 8th too? And if I go to Costco will my unlimited plan live on even though I bought last phone at Verizon store?

    • Pennywise

My bet is that any bundle offered by Costco will be non-Motorola accessories; for whatever that’s worth.

      • Anonymous

Looks kinda like official accessories in the flyer being posted around: http://www.droid-life.com/2011/08/26/droid-bionic-and-accessory-bundle-will-land-at-costco-for-just-299/

        • Pennywise

Yup sure looks that way. But no model numbers. Costco has a history of this so I don’t feel my bet is too risky.  Just bringing some smelling salts to a crowd hellbent on setting high, unjustified expectations.

          • Anonymous

I really see no possible way.  As i said, there are no 3rd party manufactures that make these things.  Especially right at launch.

      • Anonymous

I doubt that.  there are not a lot of 3rd party manufactures like iphone has for its stuff.

  • Coyote

Wife is drooling over my DX2 to replace here (caugh) Blackberry. I got 2 upgrades burning a hole in my pocket. Droid Bionic here we come followed by Droid HD when it hits. Gotta love Motorola build quality.

    • Rizzidy

      You and no one else.

      • SteveTango

Speak for yourself. I’ve had the RAZR and OG Droid, both of them lasted me over two years, and would have lasted longer had I not wanted a newer, better phone. Motorola’s build quality has always been top notch.

        • PieBoy

Lol. I agree. I still have my RAZR from 2005 and an OG Droid. I still use my RAZR when I go outside of the US.

Mighty tempting.  I’m ready to replace my OG Droid.  Then again, I’ve waited so long for this, I may wait until October to see the HTC Vigor or Nexus Prime to make my upgrade decision.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_BK7AYEK45HCLZC6LQZXDOFNFYU Scott

This phone would have been awesome six months ago!  Old news.  Yawn.

    • Pennywise

mmm pretty sure it’s still going to be awesome.  Pretty sure nothing on Verizon’s lineup will touch it when it releases.

      • Stephen D

What about the Droid 3. Nearly identical specs, minus LTE, but it also has a keyboard and global radios. If you aren’t in a 4G area, the D3 will still be the better choice.

        • Anonymous

Not really since the bionic will still work in 3g areas not to mention larger battery, screen and more ram

          • Stephen D

The larger battery is negated by the LTE radio. Not everyone wants a 4.3 inch screen. And all the extra RAM will do is let you run a few more apps at once, it won’t make any performance differences. And there are a lot of people out there that want a keyboard.

          • Anonymous

well in a 3g area lte wouldn’t negate it. And apparently more people want larger screens than a keyboard since that is what is being made more. Also the more ram will eliminate any lag/redraw.

          • Justin

people love to bicker about what phone is better.. what it comes down to is “what phone is better for YOU”

          • Pennywise

My phone’s got a bigger #%$@ than your phone /rage

          • Pennywise

Then get a Droid 3; seems like a good phone.  I’m getting the BIONIC because I like how the word BIONIC is in caps.  I mean the Droid 3 and the BIONIC are identical phones so there is no other reason why anyone would want the BIONIC; isn’t that so cool?! :D BIONIC!!

          • Stephen D

I HAVE a Droid 3. I was simply saying that there IS a phone on Verizon that matches the Bionic, and depending on your personal preferences, beats it. You seemed to have forgotten about the Droid 3 when you said that. Otherwise, I agree. The only other dual core is the X2, which is on half baked GB(2.3 running on the Froyo kernel) and it lags like a mo-fo. And everything else is single core.

          • Anonymous

Sounds like someone is just trying to justify their purchase to themselves. Disappointed you didn’t wait?

          • Stephen D

Not at all. If I wanted I bionic, I would get one. I’m on my 4th Droid 3. The guy at Verizon told me if this one has issues, I get a different phone. I asked if the Bionic was possible. He said yes. If I want a Bionic, I can get one, since it IS having issues. But I don’t want one. I like the keyboard. I’m waiting for 2nd gen LTE radios before I jump on an LTE phone.

          • Anonymous

Don’t forget that Motorola developed their own LTE chip.  It may not be the “2nd gen,” but they certainly did a good job with it.

          • Stephen D

They did? Interesting. Do you have a link?

          • Anonymous

I can’t find where it was first said, but it was by YodaDroid.  Here is a post from AF mentioning it.

            http://androidforums.com/motorola-droid-bionic/404173-droid-bionic-accessory-lineup-will-include-webtop-adapter-quick-inexpensive.html#post3138622

          • Anonymous

I was thinking the same thing.  There is no way the droid 3 is better or even on the same plain as the Bionic.  I hate when people try to lie to themselves about new technology not being any better than old technology.

          • Calla969

I guess that depends on how you define “matches”. The D3 “matches” the Bionic EXCEPT for less RAM, smaller screen (and also not as nice of a screen if you are to believe what the testers are saying), no LTE, no Webtop, no keyboard ( I know many people want a keyboard, but I that was the only reason my wife chose an X2 over the D3, hate the keyboards. I have the D1 and will never purchase another phone with a keyboard.). But yeah, other than that, they are almost identical…prefect match. I’m sure the D3 is a very solid phone, but not a “match” on this planet. Maybe close enough for some, but not a match.

          • http://twitter.com/binglut9 Brian

I don’t think you can say larger battery is negated by lte radio….no one knows the battery life and from what is being reported battery life should be greatly improved…the charge has good battery life…the thunderbolt was just a horrible phone

          • Stephen D

Hopefully battery life is good. The qHD screen consumes very little power, so that helps. The version of Blur is nicely optimized, which will also help. Cortex A9 CPUs are more power efficient than A8 phones. And it has a bigger battery. Overall, battery life should be better than any other LTE phone. But we won’t know until it’s out.

          • nicotinic

Since when did more RAM not equal better performance?
You said that the Bionic can run more apps. Isn’t that a good example of better performance?
I was scanning a check into Paypal today and it kept logging me out after the back of check pic saying I was low on memory (RAM). More is better. I had to freeze a bunch of background apps to get it to work. More is better.

It will stomp the DROID 3 which I’m sure is a great phone seeing as you’re on your 4th. Now that’s dedication. Bionic=More and is Better than the DROID 3. IMO ;°)

          • Stephen D

Er, I’m on my 3rd, not 4th. First one had a dead touchscreen out of the box. Second one had defective glass with weird marks(which is just bad luck, and really rare; took it to a few different stores and none of them had ever seen or heard of issues like that before). This one is fine, other than: the HDMI port is “loose”, and it reboots. But, every Moto phone has the same HDMI port issue, at least among the 7 that other people I know have. And the Bionic runs the same software as the Droid 3(at least the one I used did) and reboots as well. But if I really want a Bionic, I simply bitch about it and it’s mine. You can make sarcastic remarks all you want, but the Bionic is made by the same company and, if the one I used was a final version, has the same issues. The first batches of new phones always have issues anyways. It isn’t going to stomp the Droid 3. They’re nearly identical.
And don’t forget that the LTE chip will make developing for it harder. There isn’t an LTE phone with CM7 or other AOSP roms because the chips use hacked together drivers that won’t work with AOSP, unless the devs hack their own drivers together. The TBolt and Charge still don’t have fully functional CM7, and probably never will.

Verizon dropped the policy on replacing with an alt model awhile back. It used to be 3 issues in 90 days and they would give you a model specified by a replacement matrix. At no point have they ever given anyone free reign to pick what phone they wanted. Especially not a phone that hasn’t even released yet, and FYI, no inventory has been received of them. Someone would lose their job for you even seeing it, if they did have them. “Bitching” about it, no longer works at verizon. Those days have sailed chief. But cool story though!!

          • Stephen D

Tell that to the employee that told me that then. Also, he’s not the one that let me use it. I know some insiders. I used the Thunderbolt multiple times before it released. I even used a Merge(months ago) and was told that they had an LTE one in testing as well. I used prototype Droid 3s. I used a few different versions of the Bionic, including the more final version recently. I knew the specs of the Droid 3 and new Bionic long before most people did. I also know higher ups at Verizon that have done favors for me in the past.  Don’t be an all-knowing douche about it. Not every store is the same.

You mentioned that you were on your 4th Droid 3. Er, “Not at all. If I wanted I bionic, I would get one. I’m on my 4th Droid 3. The guy at Verizon…” You know people huh?
There’s a bit of you credibility coming into question there…just a bit.

Now you have the option to like what you have and that’s great. Yay! The Droid 3 is simply not as capable as the Droid Bionic spec wise. Be realistic and look at the sheet. I’m not saying that the Droid Bionic will not have issues but I am saying it will out perfom the Droid 3.

BTW I have a Droid X and that’s a MOTO phone and there’s not a thing wrong with the HDMI port. You must have some of the worst phone luck in the world to have been through so many same model devices and not have one be the way it’s supposed to be out of the box. Now if you’re caught in Verizon’s refurbished phone loop then that’s a different, but still sad, story. If you’re getting a “brand new” phone each time and still having issues then the Droid 3 has some serious QC issues.

I’ve been through Apex, Liberty, Cyanogen, MIUI and I’m now back to Blur just for the HDMI(Real HDMI/Xternal Display). If I had a Droid Bionic or an HTC Vigor with 4G dual core and 1G RAM I wouldn’t be too bothered by not having Vanilla AOSP, Cyanogen or MIUI(I know, blasphemy).

          • LaStReBeL

I have a Droid 3, and honestly…the only reason I didnt wait for the bionic is because of the keyboard…i need to type fast for the work i do, and sometimes long emails or documents on the go. its an excellent business phone whereas the droid bionic is more entertainment centered. the droid 3 is pretty durable and compact without sacrificing good entertainment. the bionic will be faster and prettier, but for everyday uses, if the droid 3 had 1 gig of ram itd be a match for the bionic…but with 512 megs no way…not even with the best OTA update to fix the motoblur lag

          • LaStReBeL

also, im waiting till next year for the 2nd gen for the bionic….by then the phone is going to be a mother of a beast…i never buy first gen products

        • Anonymous

Not really cuz the bionic has a bigger screen and will have better update support.

          • Stephen D

I’d take the keyboard over the bigger screen any day, and so will a ton of other people.

And what proof do you have that it will get more updates? They have nearly identical specs. They’re more likely to get updates at the same time.

          • Anonymous

This is their flagship phone. Also what proof do you have that all these people want a keyboard? If that was the case then why are there so few keyboard phones yet so many large screen androids?

          • Stephen D

What can I say, people are sheep. Plasmas are better than LCDs and there are plenty of us out there that want them, but few are made. That doesn’t change the fact that they are better and there are plenty of people who want them. It’s the same with this.

          • Anonymous

Not really “better” maybe some people like them better but how does a keyboard make a phone better? And plasmas aren’t really better than lcd they have more issues and don’t last as long I guess that makes them better? You are a foolish sheep that is all.

          • Stephen D

For one, a plasma is rated to reach half brightness at 100,000 hours. That’s 27 years of watching TV for 10 hours a day every day. LCDs and LED-LCDs will reach half brightness at 60,000 hours. Plasmas actually last far LONGER than LCDs do.

And they also have less issues. LEDs and LCDs are plagued with: backlight uniformity issues, input lag issues, higher failure rate, lower lifespans, weak black levels, and especially, motion blur and ghosting. What issues do plasmas have? Burn in? On a modern day plasma, it’s a non issue. Glossy screen? The matte screen kills contrast, and any high end LCD that comes close to a plasma has a glass screen as well. Heat? Once again, a non issue now. Power consumption? Yeah, you save a whopping 10 bucks a year. I’m not poor. Power consumption is no big deal.

          • Pennywise

wowowow you are comparing apples an oranges with those ratings.  Plasma burns gas for luminance which is not lossless which is why they have lifespan issues.  Now, if you watched your plasma 1 hour a week, then yes it may work for many hundreds of thousands of hours baring no other issues.

You run your plasma for 10 hours a day every day and I GUARANTEE you that it will only last a tiny fraction of those #s you posted.  LCD’s on the other hand will have no problem.

A plasma running the same thing, side-by-side as a ‘comparable’ LCD will not remain as bright, nor produce the same colors for as long as the LCD will.

There are no ghosting issues on an LCD that is comparably priced to whatever plasma you want to put it against. In the same scenario, there will be no backlight uniformity issues.  On cheap LCDs, yes, but you couldn’t buy a plasma the $$ we’re talking about here so this is moot.

          • Stephen D

I’m still waiting for you to show me an LCD that can match the Kuro.

          • Pennywise

I borderline detest Sony but their XBR will trade blows with the Kuro all day.  Black performance (the Kuro’s #1 feature) is almost identical between the sets.  The Kuro has some color rendering issues and the XBR doesn’t have as extreme viewing angles as the Kuro.

You can’t compare those numbers like that; for starters, LCD’s start out brighter ; )

          • Stephen D

And the XBR has issues with backlight uniformity and blooming. The Kuro has 100% accurate colors. The XBR has a few minor issues with color accuracy. Viewing angles are terrible compared to the Kuro. And it still has motion issues-especially ghosting.

          • Pennywise

I have seen them side-by-side; I sell them. The Kuro does NOT have 100% accurate colors.  Color reproduction (specifically greens) are a knock against the Kuro.  The XBR has zero ghosting; flipping through the Xbox 360′s dash is a great test.  I have not observed noticeable backlight uniformity issues on test screens.  Blooming is a knock against the XBR.

Power consumption is absolutely an issue.  The whole world running Kuros? Or the whole world running XBR’s… the draw difference is disgusting.  Then again I turn off my taps when I’m brushing my teeth or shampooing my hair… even in the winter; )

          • Pennywise

Forgot about viewing angles.  If you are sitting off to the side far enough, or if your set is hung high enough to run into the the XBR’s viewing angle ‘issue’ then you are sitting in the worst seat in the house. And the worst seat is the house is still the worst seat in the house even if you’re watching a Kuro; probably not enjoyable viewing on either set.

          • Pennywise

Plasmas better than current LCDs??  That IS news!  ARGUABLY better black-level performance which is less and less arguable thanks to smartly-implemented LED backlighting but I’ll give you this one thing.  Scene transition? Color-reproduction? Burn-in? Lifespan? Hit on the electric bill? Yea I’ll take a comparably priced LCD to any Plasma you want.

          • Stephen D

Ok then. The Pioneer Elite Kuro 9G. Show me an LED-LCD that has blacks that measure 0, with no backlight uniformity issues, with 100% accurate colors, with unlimited viewing angles, and with perfect motion performance.

          • Stephen D

The only LCDs that come close to a plasmas black performance are local dimming LED backlit ones. And they all have issues with flashlighting, clouding, and backlight bleed.

LCDs ghost and have motion blur. Plasmas don’t. Plasmas have far more accurate colors. Burn in is a non issue nowadays. Plasmas last far longer than LCDs; 100,000 hours to reach hlaf brightness, versus 60,000. And plasmas hardly consume more power: you save, like, 10 bucks a year with an LCD.

          • Anonymous

Seriously dude, drop it.  You cannot argue factual data and the data shows that Plasmas are bigger, heavier, use far more power (especially compared to LED backlit LCDs), are not as bright, lose brightness over time and most certainly do not last nearly as long as LCDs or LEDs.  They suffer from burn in and do not have more accurate colors.  You can achieve 100% gamma and color correction with calibration on any of the higher quality LCD sets.  Furthermore, I have no ghosting whatsoever or even limited viewing angles on my Sharp LCD.  The only advantage plasma has is contrast, otherwise LCDs are the better technology, end of story.

          • EC8CH

Unless you go full array LED backlight, Plasma is superior.  And at that point you’re paying almost double for the same performance.

Edge-lit LED is a scam to sell thin sets that impress consumers at the stores but scarifies PQ and uniformity.

          • Anonymous

Not true for all the reasons I listed plus good LED backlit sets do not suffer from uniformity or picture quality issues. Not sure how the same or better picture in a thinner package is a scam.

Plasmas suck for gaming.  yanno why?  gaming on plasma cuts the tv’s life in half.  Besdies.  LED is better than both of them

          • Stephen D

Proof of that? That is the dumbest and most uneducated thing I’ve heard all day. How the hell would gaming cut a TV’s life in half? A plasma will reach half brightness at 100,000 hours. LCDs do at 60,000. Plasmas last far longer.

Different hardware brings potentially different bugs.  You can count-out simultaneous software releases for D3 and BIONIC.

Keyboard was my #2 reason for getting the OG (#1 being it’s not an i*hone) and I never, ever use it.

          • Stephen D

True, but out of the box, they run the same version of Android and Blur. So software releases should be very similar for them.

          • Anonymous

1GB of Ram vs 512mb of ram.  Bigger screen.  and 4G.  those are enough differences for many people to want a bionic of a D3.  I have a D1 and i love it so dont think im downing the D3.

          • Anonymous

I have to disagree with you there.  While I’ve never owned a smartphone without a keyboard (since 2003), we are definitely in the minority.  I guarantee that way more smartphones without keyboards sell every year.

EDIT: I am definitely thinking about doing without a keyboard for the first time ever. Bring on the Prime!

        • http://profiles.google.com/chrisleighton3 Chris Leighton

LTE covers quite a bit of the US now, nearly all of the major cities. Plus there’s the fact that normal people don’t give a shit about dual core processors and Android 2.3, and only care about things like “4G LTE RULE THE AIR HURR DURR”

        • Anonymous

And then there’s the fact that the Bionic has twice as much RAM.

        • Anonymous

i actually prefer the D3 form factor to the bionic…but no 4G killed it for me…we’re getting LTE in my area before the bionic launches, and before i’m eligible for upgrade…otherwise the D3 would be my phone

    • Anonymous

I think the biggest problem with this phone is the name. Once they scrapped the old specs for current ones they should have changed the name. At this point people are so tired of the name that they just associate it with this new one, even though the one we saw at CES is a different phone then the current one. If they had given it the “Targa’s” name I don’t think there would be this much hate for it.

      • Pennywise

        lol pretty much!

      • Anonymous

Hit the nail on the head.  People are too dumb to look at the hardware instead of focusing on the name.  Worse still they think the Bionic was originally supposed to launch in January because that’s when Moto revealed it.

      Typical comment. Yawn.

this phone should have been droid x2 and should have come out around july..
