DROID3 1-Click Easy Root Already Released

Struggling with the manual rooting method for the DROID3 that was released this morning?  No need to stress.  A 1-click easy root has already been created by Framework43 and psouza4 for those of you with Windows machines.  The instructions couldn’t be more simple.  Oh, and our homie @P3Droid is pretty sure that this rooting method will work for all Moto phones running Gingerbread.  Hello, Bionic?  Unless of course, Moto finds a way to patch it before we see that phone on September 8.

Instructions:

1. Make sure you have Motorola drivers installed - [Download Drivers]
2. Download and unzip ‘Droid 3 easy root script v5′ - [Download 1-Click]
3. On your phone:  Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging(check box)
4. Plug phone into computer and select “Charge Only” mode
5. Navigate to ‘Droid 3 easy root’ folder and run ‘Click to root your Droid 3.bat’
6. Now just follow the instructions in the command window and unlock the phone after each reboot.

Via:  RootzWiki (be sure to check here for the latest version)

Cheers Travis!

    works on my droid x

  • Cwzrd23

It just worked perfectly on my Droid X1 now i have super user installed :)

    • Floyd

How long did it take to complete?

      • Matthewharmon Matt

Should be a minute or less.

  • Ry4meck

anyone willing to assist me on how to accomplish root. kinda new at this, but want root!!!

  • Anonymous

with this root you can overclock, teather ect? Install stock gingerbread?

  • Anonymous

b/c the bootloader is locked it can’t it can’t use clockwork recovery?

  • R_peacock10

does anyone know if they have started giving droid 3 as replacements for the droid 2?

  • http://twitter.com/metalhead520 Nick

Ive rebooted my DX1, five times already and it doesnt lose root at all…not sure whats going on with the D3 owners :-(.

  • Anonymous

Yes! Just Rooted! Such a snap! I missed my Drocap2, Titanium Backup, etc etc.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000294041551 Carl Wolfe

thanks for figuring this out, now my D3 is a greater beast than it already was :)

    • Guest

It was a beast before root, i can imagine now but i do not feel root is necessary anymore.

  • Daniel Maginnis

i know it says it in step 6, but i’ll make it clear since no one has asked… you have to run this script every time you reboot the phone? kind of a annoying since my phone reboots itself about once a week.

  • Daniel Maginnis

So if I’m in the middle of the Amazon jungle and my D3 reboots I need a laptop to run the script again or else no phone?

Not too excited about root just yet it seems.

      • Peter Souza

See my reply above — this is a one-time permanent root.

        • http://twitter.com/howzball Mike

Gotcha!  Thanks for that, went ahead and took the plunge

          • Peter Souza

Enjoy it… I’ve had my Droid 3 since July 8th, the day after it was released.. and have been itching for this forever.  Big props again to bliss (Dan Rosenberg of Brown University) for this exploit.

          • Floyd

How long did it take to complete the process?

          • Peter Souza

< 5 minutes most of which is waiting for the Droid 3 to complete two reboots.

      • Tom Crews

No, once done it’s done.  It’s multiple reboots when doing it the first and only time.

    • Peter Souza

No, they said ‘unlock’ (and meant unlock, not unroot).  And you don’t even have to unlock… version 7 of the script doesn’t even pause for the phone to be unlocked it just *does* it.

This root method survives a reboot, battery pull, etc.

      • Daniel Maginnis

awesome. i see exactly what you mean, now that i’ve done it. i know that the script has been updated multiple times in just one day. thanks for your reply. i just rebooted my phone and can confirm that the root does stay. already got rid of all the moto and VZW crap. freed up 50+MB of running RAM.

        • Guest

You could of done that using the task manager that the new moto devices have.

          • Peter Souza

No you can’t.  The built-in task killer that’s included with the DROID 3 can be configured to end running tasks 2 minutes after the screen is turned off.  That means these processes can still do whatever they feel like when the screen is on (if even the task killer works as advertised).

        • Corey williams

So I’m new to the whole Android system and rooting. I used the new updated 1 click root and was successful on my Droid 3. What should I do next? I’m not able to remove any of the crap that’s on it. I do know it worked because I have the superuser ninja app.

  • 11knives

Droid X with latest Gingerbread OTA… Now have ROOT ACCESS!

  • Esmccarty09

version 7 won’t work for me it just keeps saying waiting for phone to be connected
anyone know what i should do?

    • http://twitter.com/Rocko9999 Rocko Smith

You have to install moto drivers on computer.

  • Joshpmerk
  • Anonymous

is there a way to unroot as well?

    • Peter Souza

Just delete su, uninstall superuser, and reboot.  There’s a few solutions in the market that’ll do it for you.

      • guest

where exactly do you delete su from when trying to unroot? my home button won’t take me back home when im on another homescreen after rooting

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Scott-Andreae/714213238 Scott Andreae

well works on d3 saweeeeet i got an ogd an a d3 rooted

    • Guest

sweet ! tell me out of the box, which one its better droid1 or droid3?

  • http://twitter.com/nodnarb22 Brandon

batch file shows no issue but Su not working in emulator, had root on froyo via z4root did ota to gb and lost this doesnt seem to get my root back….on dx btw

    • http://twitter.com/metalhead520 Nick

Make sure to download the drivers, install them, and follow instructions, it works I have a DX1. Also you can make sure you have root by downloading a program like cache cleaner legacy and run it, it needs root so if it does run….you have root :-)

      • http://twitter.com/nodnarb22 Brandon

did all the above.. removed drivers re installed and still wont take it.

        • http://twitter.com/nodnarb22 Brandon

for that matter i have tried about 10x and no luck.. so to recap.. dx had root on froyo from z4root.. lost going to gb on ota, su and such still installed when ota was recieved now wont take this root regardless of driver uninstall reinstall etc.

  • http://twitter.com/metalhead520 Nick

Well I can confirm it works with the original Droid X :-)

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Scott-Andreae/714213238 Scott Andreae

    wha bout clockwork recovery?

    • http://twitter.com/Rocko9999 Rocko Smith

It will work. You have to buy it.

      • Peter Souza

No access to the bootloader nor second init (yet), so no custom recoveries, no nandroidn or anything you’d really want Clockwork Recovery for.

  • http://twitter.com/metalhead520 Nick

I have an original Droid X, due to the locked bootloader, will this work? Im used to rooting things with rsd lite and dont know how to at all with adb….if anyone gets this to work on the DX1 let us know :-)

    • http://twitter.com/Rocko9999 Rocko Smith

Has nothing to do with bootloader. Yes, it will work. Follow instructions.

  • A Nguyen584

So it won’t be rooted after i reboot the phone correct? Am I reading that right?

  • Ges

Well it wasn’t going to patch it until it read it here!

Works on all Droid devices running Gingerbread. NICE!

Very nice ! many people still complaing about Moto lol. They are releasing the GB super fast to their phones as well :)

Now I’m waiting for the post saying the Bionic has been delayed again. LOL

  • Peter Souza

I just released v7 of this script… fixes a chown issue, works even if .bak files pre-existed, and uses adb kill-server instead of taskkill (forgoes a “protocol error” some people are getting).

so what does this do to my D3?  sorry im not a tech head at all

    • http://twitter.com/Rocko9999 Rocko Smith

It allows you root access to your phone. You can change/delete system files and apps. Similar to jailbreaking an iPhone.

Looks like the have a method for both PC and mac

  • J Dub

Sooo…how long till Clockwork and how long for the boot loader unlock? Still looking for the OG replacement. You know the phone that, like the OG, is like the highest spec’d, best looking, very well made phone on the market.

    • http://twitter.com/strifejester Justin Ellenbecker

Since there is no sbf available yet most devs will wait for that.  Don’t want a bunch of bricks out there.

  • Stelv81

Congratulations guys. Quick..remove blur as fast as you can. AOSP it up!

  • Bob2kim

    Just rooted my DX..yes!

    • http://twitter.com/__paolo Paolo Ozaraga

is it an original DX with OTA Gingerbread?

      • Anonymous

The root is for stok gingerbread so im guessing its the ota

    • Bob2kim

It’s an original stock Gingerbread.  I have been waiting for a 1click solution so I never rooted using the rooted ROMs.  I wanted to be as much stock as possible but rooted.

    • Jake

      But you can’t wifi tether?

Very good news…as root access is a necessary for me to buy the Bionic.

I just paíd $20.87 for an íPad 2.64GB and my boyfriend loves his Panasoníc Lumíx GF 1 Cámera that we got for $38.79 there arriving tomorrow by UP S.I will never pay such expensive retail príces in stores again. Especially when I also sold a 40 inch LCD T V to my boss for $657 which only cost me $62.81 to buy.

Well at least there’s some good news for a FEW Verizon customers today. Still rocking the OG Droid.

Please post in here if the D3 ends up being amazing with the root! thanks in advance!

  • my00si

Stupid question – Navigate to ‘Droid 3 easy root’ folder and run ‘Click to root your Droid 3.bat’ – you run this from your desktop with the phone plugged in by USB correct?

    • Craigg

      yes.

    • Dick Wiggles

Yes … plugged in via USB with debugging enabled

  • Carl Weathers

So much for the September 8th Bionic release date we had hoped for.  It seems unlikely Motorola can patch this hole and get it certified by Verizon’s labs before the cut-off date for shipping these phones out.  Thanks hackers. :-P

  • Craigg

I just performed the one click and it worked perfectly.

  • Carl Weathers

Well, so much for the hoped-for September 8th release date of the Bionic.  This should push back the release at least another 2-4 weeks while a new patch is certified to fix this hole.  There’s no way Verizon will launch a new 4G LTE phone with a root hole in it.

Thats one thing I liked about Motorola phones….. One click root!

    wireless tether here we come

    • Craigg

The radio exploit is better than using the market tethering applications. You can find details on the XDA development forum.

  • http://twitter.com/Chasemanhattan3 Chase Chick

Also, does this come with superuser?  Or do we need to dl that from the market?

  • http://twitter.com/Chasemanhattan3 Chase Chick

So for this don’t need any ADB or any crazy business installed???

  • http://twitter.com/Chasemanhattan3 Chase Chick

Oh man OH MAN OH MAN!!!!!  Greatest. Day. Ever!

  • Rory W

“Oh, and our homie @P3Droid is pretty sure that this rooting method will work for all Moto phones running Gingerbread.”

So, does this mean my Droid X finally gets 1-click rooting versus having to flash the rooted ROM?

    • Anonymous

DroidX always had one click root.

      • mrz1125

        not on gingerbread it didnt

      • kkb

didn’t completely work on my DX either.  Script ran fine and I CAN get root via adb, but not via any apps on the phone itself.

    • Rory W

Seems to have worked on my DX.

    • Rory W

Trying on my Droid X2 in about 5 minutes

    • Anonymous

Ooh, let us know how it goes.

      • Anonymous

X2 is listed as one of the devices it will work on

        • http://twitter.com/strifejester Justin Ellenbecker

except if you grabbed the script a half hour ago when it was first posted it does not work.  there is a lot of flashy color stuff in there and a few other things that giving me a hard time with the batch file on my system.  I am re-writing it in vbs using send keys to help make it more stable from the original instructions from this morning.  I will be leaving the office soon but once it’s done i will have it on my blog after a party i have to go to.  Sorry people I got commitments tonight and someone will probably beat me to it.  as of right now i am sitting at a root prompt on my X2.

          • http://twitter.com/strifejester Justin Ellenbecker

Apps Are pushed have a screen shot using drocap from the terminal emulator coming soon.  Here is my recommendation

            http://goo.gl/K3ffx

That is a text file.  Download the file above and extract it and then start a command prompt.

MAKE SURE YOU START FROM THAT DIR.  I typed all of those by hand and I have root.  Screen Shots soon.

          • http://twitter.com/strifejester Justin Ellenbecker

Ok screens giving error will test and report back when i have time.

          • Bensdroidhelp

Extract all the files to your desktop and run it from there, thats what i had to do

          • http://twitter.com/strifejester Justin Ellenbecker

Using my txt file though I can fire up terminal emulator, type su, get root (#) access and type reboot and the phone does exactly that.  Thinking its the tegra and the screen shot apps that are busted.  Someone please try and let me know i will check back when i can.  Sorry about the rambling but it was the easiest way to keep my thoughts organized until i get this in my blog

          • http://endlessness.myopenid.com/ EndlessBacon

            which [signed] version of SU?

      • http://twitter.com/strifejester Justin Ellenbecker

Taking longer the original script would not work
Had to manually get into the shell and type it out
        Working on my script now

        • http://twitter.com/strifejester Justin Ellenbecker

Doing it by hand the adb commands are not taking properly but i can get through most of the steps will keep you posted shouldn’t be long now.

          • Stephen D

I heard that it works, but the apps couldn’t get root. I’m sure that would be an easy fix though.
