Download: MIUI 1.7.15.0 For Motorola DROID (Updated with New Version)

Someone saw our story earlier today about the newest MIUI UI, and it just so happened to be a developer for MIUI. Now here we are with the download link to get it on your DROID today! I flashed it myself on the old but reliable OG, and it’s definitely going to stay there for quite some time while I play with all the new features.

It has everything that has made MIUI what it is today, with some amazing polishes. Just download the zip and place it on your SD card, then flash using Clockwork Recovery. Please make sure to have a backup of your previous ROM, then wipe data/cache. Let us know what you think, cause so far, we’re really impressed.

For Motorola DROID devices only!

Download: MIUI 1.7.15.0   Update:  Version 1.7.15.1

Have this on my Fascinate, as well as having a better UI, the extra functionality it has, such as a drop down SMS/MMS messaging, better dialer and contacts, bette copy and paste, better theme manager then CM7, and more.
If it looks like an IPhone, just install LauncherPro and theme it like you want. Really though, MIUI brings some of iOS eyecandy and functionality into Android, which is great. You can’t deny iOS does things a little better, and looks better as well.

That’s like flame bait on this forum… ;-)

Flashed this last night and I have to say…While I do like the ROM, I miss the heck out of the app drawer.

You can always install LP or ADW on top :)

Anyone know if this is not going to link up with the market properly, cannot get Titanium Backup to work properly, will not recognize my paid status of this app.

I simply wished to thank you so much yet again. I’m not certain the things that I would’ve used in the absence of those creative concepts shown by you relating to that subject. It truly was a very depressing difficulty for me, however , discovering the skilled avenue you handled it made me to leap over joy. Extremely happier for the support and then hope that you really know what a powerful job that you are doing educating others with the aid of your web blog. Probably you have never come across any of us.

I was playing with this for a while last night, extremely nice facelift! I enjoy it, but the keyboard backlight isn’t working for me and like everyone is saying Torch isn’t working. It is pretty snappy though, I have like 200mb left of internal memory so I’m not complaining!

  • PSCPA

I tried this ROM on my OG Droid yesterday.  Only lasted about 1/2 hour, so many errors I could barely reboot into recovery and re-flash back up.  Not worth the time.

    • http://twitter.com/OneMeatball One Meat Ball

Same here. Extremely laggy and barely could get Rom Manager to restore my Droid back to Sapphire.  Also from the hour or so I spent with it installed I was not impressed.   It seemed very un-Android like.   I suppose if I wanted my Droid to look more like an iPhone it might be fun.   But what’s the practical benefit of this ROM ?

I  have yet to find a GB rom where everything just works without having to constantly tweak and twiddle with SetCPU settings.   I keep trying the latest builds but I always end up back with Sapphire Froyo which is the most reliable Froyo Rom I’ve found.

      • Anonymous

I’ve been using Sapphire for so long now, waiting for that next great ROM, but I think we may be waiting till the next OG quality phone drops.

        • http://www.droid-life.com Tim-o-tato

Sapphire? So you’re still running Froyo? lolzzzz :)

      • Allison Collins

If you didn’t wipe all data (every radio button offered by ROMManager), then you’ll get that result.  I did two nights ago, then re-tried yesterday, WITH wiping all cache and data, and MIUI works beautifully — enough so that I decided to put off buying a new phone and instead pick up one that’s more advanced, but will run MIUI for the wait until there’s a good 4G/dual-core option out there.

Anyway, give it a try again, and wipe all data and cache.  It’s great.

        • CyberPete

same. i actually booted into recovery and wiped/reset there. beautiful after that.

      • CyberPete

The most responsive GB ROM that I’ve used (OG Droid) is simply stunning 5.4. even with stock clock, it is not laggy at all.

Wow i really like it now that I finally got it installed thanks for the help guys…sorry for all the questions I get scared

    I miss my Droid 1…Droid 2 sucks.

  • Jeff

Ok, just tried it. My experience is that this is one of THE worst roms I have ever run on my droid. It was slow and laggy as hell. The lockscreen took forever to work. Most of my apps would not install to sd. It kept freezing up and giving me error messages. I played with it for about an hour and that was more than enough. I couldn’t get back to Chevy fast enough.

    • Trey Motes

Did you wipe data at all? You have to full wipe for this.

      • Yte13

Do you know of a way porting the miui camera on the droid 1?

  • Boots

Slightly off-topic, but this has opened my eyes to the world of custom roms, what are some of the more popular OG Droid roms out there?

    • Anonymous

Cyanogen Mod 7 is probably the most popular one. You could start there.

    • Anonymous

Sapphire is a slightly oldy but very goody.

    • Anonymous

CM7 is a great start but my favorite would be Liquid Gingerbread…Project Elite is also a go to rom!

  • MJZ

I had one of the first MIUI releases on my OG Droid back in the day and it was AWESOME.
I wish they would figure out a way to port it to the DX so I would have a reason to flash off stock.

  • Tengoku -Sama

I’ve just installed MIUI for the first time, and this is the SNAPPIEST, and the most SEXIEST ROM I have EVER used. :D I’m NEVER changing again.

    • http://twitter.com/G3NK1E Travis Fountain

Hope so because the last version I tried out was super laggy and almost unusable.  Not sure why because everyone has always praised the MIUI rom so I’m sure it was something to do with my install.  Either way, seeing you talk so highly of it is making me wanna give it another go.  :)

  • andrew kelly

i never got into MIUI but i loved the idea of it and i would always go back to stock gingerbread on my droid incredible and i just installed MIUI 1.7.15.0 and so far im loving it

  • andrew kelly

i never got into MIUI but i loved the idea of it but i just never liked using it idk why thou but i would try to use it and i would just go back to stock gingerbread on my droid incredible but i just installed MIUI 1.7.15.0 and so far im loving it

  • http://www.facebook.com/Ryan57ford Ryan Chapman

Wow, just put this on my OG Droid, that was lagging and dragging so much the last few months, and this thing is running like new again… this is a slick ROM, Im very impressed

    • http://www.facebook.com/Ryan57ford Ryan Chapman

I feel really stupid asking this… but where in the hell is the app drawer though?

      • Carlsonnm

No app drawer… you have to think a little more iOSer

      • Boots

I had this same problem/question. It seems all apps go directly to the homescreen? Is there a way to change this? It also seems to not like landscape mode. Other than that, this is my first venture into installing and a new rom AND learning to root my phone and I am quite impressed. Thanks MIUI!

      • Droidlovinyogi

Don’t feel stupid. Miui is a very different UI and takes time to
learn your way around it and become accustomed to it.

You can create folders, as many or as few as you want. You can place
as many apps as you want in each folder. You can choose to hide the applications
in a given folder or make them visible in that folder if you’d like. You can
title each folder whatever you want. You can choose to sort the apps in each
folder by frequency of use, by app name or by default.

You can place one – or more – folders on the dock next to your
dock app icons, or place only folders on your dock and no apps, or just put app
icons on the dock or just place folders on the dock. Whatever you choose to
place there, there can be as many as 6 items on the dock.

Once you have all those apps in your folders, hit Menu> Preview
        and you’ll see a preview of all 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 or more of your
screens, then press the circled X in the top right corner of the empty screens
to delete them (you can always add as many more screens as you want later; if
        you so choose).

No, Miui doesn’t have an app drawer. You have to create it (or
them) if you’d like via making folders. It’s different than what you’re used
to, but you’ll get used to it if you want.

If you don’t like those choices you can run Launcher Pro, or
Launcher Pro Plus, or ADW, or another launcher – though the icons will be
smaller than when using the Miui launcher.

Better yet, if you really want to begin to glean the choice in
customization Miui offers, check this out:

I Cant wait to get this on my thunderbolt!! i loved it on the OG droid!!

  • http://twitter.com/JefFullerMyself Jeff Fuller

insanely awesome customization.  It’s been a long time since I have tried an MIUI rom and this thing is sick.

  • Jack Hoffman

I get nothing but bootloader loop kicking me back into Clockwork.  Tried “Install ROM from SDCARD” in ROMManager and loading directly from Clockwork.

Doesn’t even leave the bootloader screen, just kicks into Clockwork.

    Weird…

    • Anilraj407

your recovery wasnt flashed good u got to load manually a backup then flash recovery a few times an try again plus remember to wipe everything

    • Carlsonnm

Sometimes flashing sprecovery then flashing back to clockwork, then flashing the rom does the trick, don’t ask me why, I just know that works for me when I have similar issues.

    • Anonymous

I get “stuck at M.” I don’t even get back to Clockwork :(

  • http://profiles.google.com/bzchickin Aaron Verhoeven

I would actually not recommend porting this over, since it’s not fully supported, in my opinion, and there are a lot of bugs that still need to be worked out. E.G. The flashlight app doesn’t work, and the backup app seems to FC. I’d wait till next friday for a later, more bugfixed, update.

    • tanknspank

or, flash now, deal with insignificant bugs, and flash patch that trey will probably release in the next day or two. Those bugs you’ve named do not prevent any normal use.

    • Trey Motes

What do you mean not fully supported? It’s based off of Milestone. Google it. It is fully supported as much as Milestone is.

Torch not working is my fault.
Backup FC  is MIUI’s fault. It FC on Milestone too. Please know your facts before giving people tidbits of “wisdom.” *sigh*

  • Ray

Awesome job, this is running flawless on my droid 1.

  • http://twitter.com/TreyMotes Trey Motes

I will attempt to fix torch tomorrow folks.

    • http://twitter.com/MikeyLiebman Michael Liebman

do i have to flash clockworkMod before I flash MIUI?

      • http://profiles.google.com/bzchickin Aaron Verhoeven

yes, you need it TO flash the file.

      • Droidlovinyogi

        Or you could use RZRecovery

    • nyko

Hey trey iwanna try this rom but the mms video bug has me on the fence. What exactly is the issue???

  • Arda Akman

Is it me or does this ROM used up so much RAM. After flashing and no apps installed/running (apart from google services) I have about 18-20mb free… In the “About phone” section it shows the model as DROID 2 btw.

    • http://twitter.com/TreyMotes Trey Motes

you need to move some apps to the sdcard. You need at least 40mb free to enjoy any GB based rom.

      • Arda Akman

There are no apps installed at this point. It starts with 60mb free, and after playing around with the settings menu its goes down to 20ish. Once any app is installed it is usually around 18mb free, with fluctuations up to 30mb.
None of the apps (facebook, music beta) let me move to SD either.

      • KevinC

Whether an app is stored to an SD card or to phone internal storage, there is NO difference in RAM usage.  2 completely different topics here, next time do some research before you spout BS.

  • http://twitter.com/MikeyLiebman Michael Liebman

I’m running Project Elite can anybody walk me threw step by step on how to change roms I want to try this…thanks

    • http://twitter.com/TreyMotes Trey Motes

you will lose all data. download an sms and contact backup app from market. Backup your stuff. Nandroid, do a full wipe, flash MIUI. login to your google account by clicking on market, download the same backup apps that you used. Restore your stuff. Enjoy. (you’ll need to re download most of your apps)

      • http://twitter.com/MikeyLiebman Michael Liebman

        whats nandroid?

        • http://twitter.com/TreyMotes Trey Motes

          Rom backup from recovery.

          • http://twitter.com/MikeyLiebman Michael Liebman

            where can i get it?

          • http://twitter.com/TreyMotes Trey Motes

Use rom manager, or boot into recovery by holding x on the keyboard while turning the phone on. There is a backup option in there.

(Use rom manager if you’re scared of recovery)

          • http://twitter.com/MikeyLiebman Michael Liebman

alright thank you for your help…I’m sorry for all the questions but just a few more…
I downloaded the file on my phone now i go to rom manager hit install from SD the back up existing ROM then what?

          • http://twitter.com/TreyMotes Trey Motes

            wipe data and cache

          • http://twitter.com/MikeyLiebman Michael Liebman

i just went to the rom man. and i hit backup existing rom…it just rebooted and now can i just flash the new rom of do i go back to flashwork or something

          • Anonymous

It’s simple man.  Install rom manager, open it and select backup current rom (you have to install clockwork mod recovery first if it’s not already), name it then hit ok and the phone will reboot into recovery and automatically back everything up.  When it finishes the phone will boot back up as normal.  Go back into rom manager and select install rom from sdcard, point it to the rom’s zip file and select wipe data and cache, it will reboot to install then boot into the newly flashed rom once it finishes.

Couple of things here, I have downloaded the rom and here areafew things I have noticed, very nice interface clean but a. It laggy had to do a battle pull the first time but now its much smoother. Its 2.3.4 and it says my phone is a Droid 2 when its clearly a droid 1 and this file was for thedroid 1. Also inthe market all my apps show up but they are saying I need to pay for them…. this could be one major problem…

    • http://twitter.com/TreyMotes Trey Motes

Yes, build.prop has been edited to say Droid 2 for the market. I accidentally left that one little line in. And yes, this rom is 2.3.4.

    • http://twitter.com/TreyMotes Trey Motes

If your apps are saying you need to pay for them, then you logged into market with the wrong google account.

      • Anonymous

I only have one account and I logged into it to get into the market and once in the market it showed all the apps I have paid for but does not recognize that I have already paid for them.

        • http://twitter.com/TreyMotes Trey Motes

Not sure what to tell you man. Mine didn’t do that.

      re-download

  • FortitudineVincimus

It failed for me on my D1.

About 20 “android.process.acore” FC error messages, no top notification bar, a soft reboot, tons of screen reboots, apps no open and essentially.. no joy

    • http://twitter.com/TreyMotes Trey Motes

you have to do a full wipe. Re download if you need to and reflash full wipe. Data, Cache, Dalvik.

      • FortitudineVincimus

damn, it has been so long, I forgot about that. One of the reasons I recall hating install roms is all of the data loss & apps that needs to be redowloade and blah blah

Lots of devices are supported on MIUI.us.  Current supported verizon devices are the og Droid, Incredible, Incredible 2, and Fascinate.

Currently running it on my Fascinate and it is amazing.  In other Fascinate news, there will soon be official CM7 nightlies as well as OMFGB nightlies.  This phone just got a whole lot better.

I still don’t personally understand the draw for this.  If I wanted iOS, I’d buy an i*hone.

It does look really nice, but then, so does iOS.

I also find it interesting that half the people comment praise it’s snappiness and stability, and the other half bemoan it’s supposed plethora of issues.

      • Trey Motes

Did you even flash it? I don’t port and run MIUI bc I want iOS. I port and run MIUI bc I want MIUI.

MIUI is so far from iOS it’s funny what people say about it. Please, go grab an iPhone, then grab an Android device with MIUI on it. Run them side by side. TOTALLY different feel, and TOTALLY different OS.

If you don’t like the stock look, THERE ARE THEMES.

If you hate the icons, THERE ARE THEMES.

If you hate the launcher, THERE IS ANDROID MARKET.

Please stop with the “it’s just like iOS BS.” It’s not even close. I’ve been running and porting it since September 2010. I think I would know.

        • Anonymous

No I have not flashed it, and did not intend to offend you.

Every picture I see feels like iOS.  I see people discussing how the apps are organized in folders, just like iOS. I don’t think it’s bad, it’s just not for me from what I have seen.

On top of that, I see too much about stability problems, I use my phone heavily during the day, every day for work.  I cannot afford that.

          • Trey Motes

Don’t worry buddy, you did not offend. :)

MIUI went stable last week. It has been beta for months.

Also, apps organized in folders? Is that all that bugs you?

          • Anonymous

No, it’s just really the whole impression I got from it.  Hearing that about the folders, seeing the pictures that have that other white meat flavor, just gave me an overall impression of iOS.  I’ve really had that feeling since I first started seeing it posted here way way back.

I don’t know how I feel about apps in folders, but my initial feeling is that I like the app drawer.  It’s always been something I considered a feature over the ‘app jukebox.’

          • Trey Motes

You can place a folder in the Launchpad. Or use a different launcher easily.

          • Anonymous

Maybe I’ll give it a try then.  Maps, Nav, Google Music, Corporate Sync, and Facebook all work?

          • Trey Motes

Well, later tonight I’m going to release an update to fix the backlight and touch button light issue, and torch. Maps, Nav, Google Music, Corporate sync (may not work, not sure), and Facebook (will only sync ALL contacts), all work.

            http://forums.miuiandroid.com/showthread.php?6600-DEV-ROM-THREAD-MON-UPDATE-MIUI-1.7.15.1

          • Anonymous

Anyone running this rom that uses corp sync?

          • Buceyes

Running it with corp sync with policies. No issues, password policies were pushed down, email, calendar and contacts all available. Pretty happy with this ROM. Lots of themes. Really like the toggles accessible from the drop down, and pretty fast. Waiting to see if it is resistant against the 1-2 week slow down that seems to allways hit my custom ROM installs.

          • Dwnshiftandgo

Are you having any issues with your email being pushed to you?  It seems like mine looses it’s conection with my exchange server after a few hours.

I loved MIUI, but 1.7.1 became way unstable – especially after using the camera app.. things just ground to a halt. Is this fixed?

    • Kttemplin

Yep, that was fixed in the last update.

      • Anonymous

        battery life as well?

        • Kttemplin

Haven’t flashed 1.7.15.0 yet, I’m downloading it right now.

        • http://www.droid-life.com Tim-o-tato

I’m having no problems so far! :)

          • http://twitter.com/TreyMotes Trey Motes

everyone should give props to Magiman7 for fixing the Camera issue in his build weeks ago. I just got mine working correctly.

          • http://twitter.com/TreyMotes Trey Motes

BTW, tanknspank reported to me, Torch is borked. MIUI’s fault I think.

          • http://twitter.com/magiman7 magiman7

Torch working fine in my build :)

            Got it :)

    • Kttemplin

Yep, that was fixed in the last update.

  • tanknspank

Loaded it up on my spare D1 myself! If only I could get it on my Thunderbolt.. :/

    • Anonymous

I’m waiting for the TBolt version too haha

      • tanknspank

Why can’t things just be simple?

        • http://twitter.com/TreyMotes Trey Motes

bc I can’t be everywhere at once. I am perfect, but I’m not god… Sorry. :p

          • Anonymous

Cocky, much? :P just kidding! If you’re devving for the Thunderbolt, you will be considered my alltime hero. #justsayin

          • http://twitter.com/TreyMotes Trey Motes

            Yes, only kidding. :)

        • Anonymous

          This dang 4G radio. :P

    • Anonymous

I’m waiting for the TBolt version too haha

    • FortitudineVincimus

      so what do you think?

      • tanknspank

The barebones install is wonderful. It’s fluid and *almost* everything works (torch is borked atm). It’s not my main phone, so idk if I will get a lot of use out of it to see otherwise, but so far I would definitely say for people to at least try it out. I’d definitely run it on my Thunderbolt.

  • Bill_lorna

    good with Atrix?

    • tanknspank

Not this file, for sure.. I don’t think there is a build of MIUI for the atrix at all either.

      • Bill_lorna

        what a shock

  • http://twitter.com/MastaMarc Marc C.

I wnat this , but is it as slow as the other miui? cuz dang… everything was so slow and choppy…  i flashed a new kernel… it sped up a little, but my battery died sooo quick

    • http://twitter.com/TreyMotes Trey Motes

Just try it. I deved/tweaked this myself. See if it works for you.

  • FortitudineVincimus

Any known issues with this? Apps and system services that bust or break?

Can we still use custom kernels or does it come with a kernel? Is it just a look and feel GUI thing or does it actually tweak functionality deeper?

    • http://twitter.com/TreyMotes Trey Motes

Use any kernel that works with CM7.

      • FortitudineVincimus

I dont use CM7, can you list a few that known work.. currently I use a jdgfl

        • http://twitter.com/TreyMotes Trey Motes

Peteralfonso.com has some that will work (possibly) and Prime’s deprimed kernel works I think. I have always used stock CM7 kernel. It’s made by CVPCS.

          • FortitudineVincimus

have a link to the CM7 kernel you use that you know works?

I am downloading the MIUI now to try

          • http://twitter.com/TreyMotes Trey Motes

I include it in the rom as the stock kernel. :)

          • FortitudineVincimus

sweet, will nandroid and give it a whirl… any known issues with stuff like wifi busting and such?

          • http://twitter.com/TreyMotes Trey Motes

Nope, only issues atm are, MMS Video is broken, and torch isn’t working this week. Everything else should be golden. :)

          • Anonymous

You can download kernel manager from the market I think there is a free one as well but in there it has the prime kernel (personal favorite) as well as aa few others. The prime kernel is one of the most advanced kernels I have ever seen. It has a list of terminal commands that take on the fly as well as its own personal interactive governor. I run it on cm7 nightlies which are very stable but I am also downloading MIUI to give it a try.

          • FortitudineVincimus

thanks, seems these prime kernels are not in ROM Manager

My Droid X wants some lovin

  • http://www.facebook.com/raul.cecena Raul Cecena

is this for the droid x too?

    • Mr.Joe

      No

  • http://www.facebook.com/steve0mac Steven Cornea

Seeing this makes me hate moto so much more that my droid x is locked.

    • Mr.Joe

      Playing Devils Advocate:

The X has Cyanogenmod on it.  In addition to other ROMs.  Therefore the lock isn’t that big of an issue.  MIUI just needs to support it.

Maybe instead of sitting in your room being mad at Moto.  You can light a fire under MIUI to port it over.  Seems more like a productive use of your time.

      • P!X3L

or better yet, port it over yourself! 2nd init!

      • P!X3L

or better yet, port it over yourself! 2nd init!

      • http://www.facebook.com/steve0mac Steven Cornea

        easy there buddy.

just saying locked phones are shitty.

        • http://twitter.com/TreyMotes Trey Motes

There is an active effort over at rootzwiki.com to port it over to DX. Started by me and now continued on by Webst3r.

          • http://twitter.com/mjgialanella Michael J Gialanella

Any chance of pulling the gallery, camera and music apks to be used on CM7?

          • http://www.facebook.com/broken42 Josh Tamlin

I know the camera has already been repacked in a standalone .apk that you can use in any ROM, just go search rootzwiki.com for MIUI Camera

      • Anonymous

It would certainly help if Mr. Joe had a clue what he was talking about.  Cyanogenmod is not working properly on the X as it does on a phone that can be unlocked. Even if they ported over some sort of a shell it would not work properly….

So YES the lock is that big of an issue.

And of course the roms that do work properly on the X use the stock X kernel.

For some reason Mr. Joe makes these uninformed comments in every thread where someone mentions a bootloader.  Because of this I can only assume they guy or girl has never had a phone that can flash custom roms and kernels.

        • http://www.facebook.com/broken42 Josh Tamlin

How exactly is it not working properly exactly?

      • Anonymous

LMAO, Mr Joe, I  know I am late on this but DAMN, Who Pissed in your bowl of Wheaties that morning LMAO!!!!!

      • Cuellar Adam

Someone should port it, to Droid X and the Droid 2.

    • Anonymous

ugh i cant wait to have this on my dx. i hate having to go back to the d1’s screen size lol cant wait!

  • Mr.Joe

    Video MMS fixed?

    • http://twitter.com/TreyMotes Trey Motes

      No :(

      • Mr.Joe

Some one needs to light a fire under those Chinese devs.

    • Anonymous

Pic MMS works great.. to be honest. I’ve never had to send some a text message with a video.  I use email:)

      • Mr.Joe

Where did you get I was anti MIUI?

    • Droidlovinyogi

      It’s been a
longstanding issue the D1 Miui ports for quite some time. It is my
understanding that the porting developers have no control over it. The
developers in China are aware of it, but haven’t addressed it in such a way as
to allow the D1 porting developers to address it.

      If it is a deal-breaker
for you and you need to understand further, go to research the Droid Forums
Team D1-Miui forum and review the OP. and forum for each build since the
beginning of the year and earlier, and you will see that the issue has been
posted, commented on and discussed to exhaustion.
