Sense 3.0 ROMs Popping Up for HTC Incredible and Thunderbolt (Updated)

When the HTC EVO 3D was announced as running Sense 3.0, there were a few of us with Thunderbolts and Incredibles that were possibly a little jealous.  That new lock screen was just too sexy to not envy, plus we love that the notification bar has built-in toggles for WiFi, Bluetooth, etc.  Well, guess what?  Some of our fine friends in the ROM game have already popped out fully-working Sense 3.0 Gingerbread ports for you to try out.  Actually, I shouldn’t say “try out” since almost everything seems to be working on them and would easily hold up as your daily driver.

Thunderbolt:

Incredible:

Instructions:

1.  Download the ROM that fits your device and drop it on your SD card.
2.  Boot into Clockwork Recovery and backup your current settings.
3.  Then perform a factory reset/full wipe.
4.  Load up the .zip of the ROM that you downloaded above.
5.  Enjoy!

Cheers Nicholas!

I’ll take a break from MIUI and try it :D

  • Rew6718

You should add that if you flash a gingerbread rom on the thunderbolt you will have to flash a new radio through the bootloader. Simple process but be prepared with the correct information.

  • Mariobros27772

I need help rooting my thunderbolt… Any one know where is a good place to start?

  • http://twitter.com/HeHeHeaney23 Brad Heaney

So I have to Root my thunderbolt to use this correct? And therefore since I have to ask that question it is dangerous to attempt a root, not being tech savy enough to comprehend and accomplish it? haha

  • Jreed2560

I would just like to point out that The Thunderbolt roms ARE NOT SENSE 3.0 BASED!!!!!!!!! They are all based on sense 2.1 and have a few elements ie lockscreen, weather, mms, etc.. from sense 3.0 Get the facts straight people!

    • Immolate

I am ashamed that I almost mistook seeing Sense 3.0 from bow to stern for actually having Sense 3.0. Alas, I am just on crappy Sense 2.1, although I can’t see it or smell it. The force tells me it is there, lurking, flipping me the bird which I also cannot see.

  • Anonymous

Gingeritis is the best one so far. The reboot issue has been fixed. It should also be noted that this rom can run Netflix by default, without needing to flash that fix.zip

  • Bxrider117

Das and Gingeritis are both great roms for the Thunderbolt. I didn’t thinly any phone could make me leave my DX. Boy was I wrong. For those still rocking a Moto phone, get a Tbolt from eBay or Craigslist for maybe $100 more than the subsidzed cost. That way you can still upgrade later in the year. That is what I did. Could not be happier.

  • Jeremiah

Are any of the HTC sense ROMs available for the DX? I hate Motoblur

    • Immolate

Sadly, no. However, you can go ginger and lard it up with apps that make it look like a prom queen. Still a dead sexy phone.

  • Br0wnb0y

how the hell do i root 1.13.605.7?  Is it even possible??  I’ve been looking all over to find a way to do this.  Almighty Kellex please help!

These ROM’s need the new Gingerbread radio flashed as well.

  • Jeremy Gentry

do you still have to flash the “new” radio to get these to work? i’m scared to do it lol

yeah, you do have to do that too, SUPER EASY

For those of you looking to update to Gingerbread Roms on your tbolt [I.E. BAMF]…

    1) BACKUP your setup right now with recovery or ROM Manager (you can safely backup with Rom Manager.)2) Grab the radios for this ROM from here: http://www.multiupload.com/HU471CMQI03) Grab the ROM from the original post.

    4) Put the ROM on the root of your SD Card. Reboot into recovery and install the ROM. Wipe data/cache/dalvik/battery stats.5) Now make sure you’re plugged in to your PC and mount your SD card in recovery. Copy the radio file (PG05IMG.zip) to the root of your SD card.6) Once the radio file is on the root of your SD card back out of the usb storage screen on the phone and pull the battery out. Put the battery back in and power the phone on and boot into hboot. It will ask you to update the radios. Do that.7) It’ll update and then say press power to reboot. Do that and you should be good to go! 8) Make sure when you’re all done and it’s up and running that you move the PG05IMG.zip file off of the root of the SD card (or rename it.)Good luck fellas

Has anyone mentioned yet that you must flash the GB radio to get data on these roms?

    • Greg ✓

      not at all.

        Well, someone should! ;)

Im running gingersense remix on my incredible and its a sense 2.0 rom with 3.0 elements thrown in too. Running top notch without any major hiccups, if anyone is interested in makin the jump.

So then — all the Thunderbolt root instructions I come across are for pre-VZ update firmware.  Are there any recommended root methods that are known to work on a Thunderbolt post the VZ firmware update that rolled out OTA earlier this month?

I know I could “just try it!!”, but I’m hoping someone knows conclusively…. and thanks as always for the help.

I need to know this as well.  I don’t see anything for the new OTA update :(

      • Mr. Joshua

        Just did this:

        http://www.thunderboltforums.com/forum/htc-thundebolt-hacking-guides/1233-rs-guide-how-root-your-thunderbolt.html

And it works fine – slightly complex and time consuming, but it works. Word of caution – the reboots that you have to do “forget” that your phone has the volume off and will play the thunderbolt sound on boot up relatively loudly (even with headphones in…..). Wish I had known that b/f I rebooted in class :-)

        • Br0wnb0y

Thanks I’ll look into it.  Looks long.  Do you just run adb commands from a command prompt or does adb have its own shell?

I remember using ADB a while back but am unsure if things have changed.

          • Mr. Joshua

It uses command prompts. The instructions basically repeat themselves a few
times between reboots, not smart enough to know why, but just know that they
are not as long as they seem to be.

Also… what exactly is the CAMERA fix for BAMF? I heard it wasn’t technically “working” but you could use Root Explorer to install the 2.1 apk over the 3.0 version… Anyone have detailed answers?

  • Greg ✓

Anyone have a way I can FLASH the BAMF gingerbread radio instead of using ADB? I’m strictly trying to do everythign from my phone while at work…

You can use hboot. Place the radio on the root of SD and rename to PG05IMG.zip. Turn off phone and then reboot by holding volume down and power to boot into hboot. Should ask to install from there.

      • Greg ✓

Thanks a million Michael. I’m going to attempt to give it a go right now. I downloaded the essentials last night but havent started to install them all. Headed in that direction now though.

      • Jeremy Gentry

would it be fine if i updated the rom “before” flashing the radio?

  • arelas

These ROMs are just BAMF kangs…

  • Anonymous

Das BAMF added.  Was just trying to throw some new flavor into things, but I see that isn’t always welcomed. :)

    • Nitsuj17

new flavor is fine…if its legit…which the bolt rom you listed instead of BAMF isnt

    • Andrew Akker

New flavor is fine, but not when you don’t even mention the original. Good to see Droid-Life is up to their good ol’ bias posting.

      • Anonymous

If “bias” means variety, then so be it. We’ll continue to do our best to give people options.

        • Anonymous

           i don’t think bias means variety :P

i also don’t think andrew knows the meaning of the word ‘bias’

        • Anonymous

The old stand-by Picard one-liner. “Options.”

If that means kellex is Picard, even better. ;)

          • Andrew Akker

Good to see the readers of this blog are all blind sheep as well.

Hypocritical making fun of Apple are we?

          • Anonymous

            Baa…

Also, options do not mean bias. If the old stand-by is doing it, they’re offering something new, as opposed to something old. And through a ton of whining and moaning and complaining, it was put up.

And we all know the first rule… “New is always better.”

        • Andrew Akker

Mm….bias means you posting links to some ROMs without others even though you’re fully aware of their existence. Proper journalism I must say.

        • Immolate

I’ve run most of the ROMs available from the time that the GB leak hit for the Thunderbolt, and all of them are good products worthy of praise and support. However, Das BAMF has been a superb ROM in Froyo and continues that tradition in GB for a reason. The developers are complimentary and, acting together, they present a more capable force than single-developer ROMs can hope to. They don’t just work as a team, they slave as a team. I’ve never seen so many updates in the forums, and you can see the results, both in the ROMs and in their popularity with the community.

Bias is not mentioning the elephant in the room.

      • Muddy B00ts

        geez.  Go take a midol.

        • Anonymous

How many times have you said that in this thread Muddy? =P

  • Derickmc84

The incredible release is not stable. Sense will go into a loop when exiting an app and the lockscreen as well. Google maps nav does not function correctly and there are issues with video playback via youtube. Not really what you want as your daily driver. But progress is being made rather quickly.

    • evileclipse

If you’re really interested in running sense 3.0 you should try gingersense remix. Its everything you’re looking for, but smooth and stable! The kingdom port is definitely alpha, and full of little bugs. Amazing work by the devs, just needs a little ironing out

  • Anonymous

Soo many people have said BAMF.
Do you think your a BAMF for saying BAMF?

    Come on.

BAMF 2.0 is the standard of sense roms on the bolt….the rest are just friggin kangs, that dont properly credit or are arrogant in the fact that they *dont* credit shit…like gingercrapilis that you linked

the bolt community has 500 roms and virtually none are original…ridiculous…and embarrasing that this site contributes to legitimizing this

  • Ryan

is there any way someone could give me a link to detailed instructions on rooting the tbolt. I have found some links but they are for different firmware versions than i have and dont know if it will work. I am running stock 1.13.605.7 ( I just got the phone). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Just sold my OG and rooted my brand new Bolt last night with this. Its missing little details like the fact that you need to put the files ur pushing to the phone in the platform-tools folder in your sdk setup. it just needs a good clean up but itll get the job done. Im still stock rooted, waiting for a perfect ROM to pop up http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=996616

Will the tbolt get sense 3.0 in an update?? I have never rooted my t bolt and if I do I’m afraid i’ll mess it up..

    • http://twitter.com/HenriDevious Henri Devious

HTC has never upgraded any of their phones’ Sense versions, and the gingerbread leak we got upgrades to Sense 2.1, but I honestly feel like that’s as far as it’ll go.

      No, it won’t. Sorry.

    • http://twitter.com/ncoulombe Nathan Coulombe

People have been waiting for Sense on non-HTC phones forever, and likely will continue to for some time. There are so many complications between the Radios, Rosie, and the way Sense completely integrates with Android, that it is rather hard to get it to fit just right on other phones. Take a look at the work Jamezelle has done to get Sense on the D1, very interesting, but still far from a daily driver. Before that, ZeusDroid tried to port it to the D1 also to little avail. Sorry, but it looks like we’ll be waiting still.

    • http://twitter.com/HenriDevious Henri Devious

I’ve got 2.0-4.01 too, and i’m running imoseyon’s 2.54test1, and i’m having problems with delay on the cam; from the time i snap a shot to the time it takes it.. and video hangs up a bit. Is it just me having these issues? because other than that, it’s PERFECT.

      • Andrew Akker

        Try updating to test 4.

neither of those tbolt roms are sense 3.0, they are sense 2.1 with sense 3.0 elements.

Gingeritis is all kinds of win.  Seriously can’t find any fault with it.  Camera works, battery is great.  Just make sure you update the radio.
