I called a store and was told specifically that I could purchase the T-Bolt at the 1 yr price under my employer discount plan. $229.

In my case, I called telesales and they said I could still do 1yr. But yesterday on the website, my employer discounted 1yr rate for the Thunderbolt was $229 (maybe 239, I can’t see it anymore!). Now that its lost, they will only quote the previous undiscounted rate of $319. Even though I can still get 2yr contract rate discounted at $199.

Argh. I never imagined they’d pull the plug on the website early. Why why why. Just to mess up their customers?

Very upset with Verizon, I had planned to get Thunderbolt on 1yr. They’ll give me 1yr but not at the discounted price they offered on the website yesterday.

I checked TMo, Sprint, AT&T and could not find mention of 1yr contracts on any of their websites.

I love free competition, how all companies work in lockstep to create one monolithic monopoly.

So much for differentiating from the competition.

Hardly any break on pricing? At least for smartphones, a 1-year contract added $70 to the price of the phone. For example, the Thunderbolt costs $599 off contract and $320 on contract ($250 for 2-year). That’s still a pretty good discount from the off-contract price.

For people who like to upgrade every year, 1-year contracts is worthwhile since you can upgrade 10 months into your contract unlike, now, a 2-year contract, you can upgrade at 20 months (barring any exceptions)

well judging from the comments on this post…a lot of people like the option of having a 1 yr contract…myself included. yes, the majority of end users like 2 yrs because of the cheaper phone price, and if they don’t mind being stuck with the same phone for 2 yrs that’s all them. and if you listen to verizon reps over your peers on droid-life…then well…i don’t know what to say to you.
