I used to have that problem and I found this tip that, for the most part, seemed to address it:

-------------------------------------------------
If you use ADW or LauncherPro and if after using your browser, email or any other apps for awhile, then if you press the 'HOME' button, if it takes forever to redraw your home screen, and you are sick of that HORRIBLE LAG, then try this: In a terminal, type su and enter. Then type echo ro.HOME_APP_ADJ=1 >> /data/local.prop and enter. Then reboot. Now evaluate whether or not this fixes your lag. If you want to undo what this command does, simply remove that toggle from: /data/local.prop

To remove the toggle: In Root Explorer, go to /data/, tap Mount R/W at the top, then long-press on local.prop and Open in Text Editor, then delete the line: ro.HOME_APP_ADJ=1.

If a dev goes through a ton of effort to make a new version, he may want to get paid for all that work and effort. It's entirely reasonable since it is not a case of adding new features or fixes to an existing product. Just because the product is not a consumable does not mean that all iterations of the product should only require one payment. If that were the case, there would be little incentive for a business to innovate. If you find something that's free, that you like, then you're certainly able to go with that option. Consumer choice isn't a bad thing. It's great that different businesses use different revenue models--it drives competition. However, the expectation that everything for which you once paid must be free is a bit off base.

This is the most ridiculous discussion I've ever heard. Do you get the new version of Microsoft Office every time just because you bought Office 2003 8 years ago? I could provide 100 different scenarios. If a developer provides new features free of charge, that's cool, and we all appreciate it. The fact is you purchased a feature complete piece of software. If the developer decides that they are going to do a major overhaul and include many new features, and they decide that it will be a separate piece of software they are completely justified. If I want those features, I'll pay for the software, if I don't I won't. These developers spend countless hours creating this software for our consumption. I love it when they offer it for free, but I don't begrudge a developer one bit for trying to compensate their hard work and time spent by selling it for a measly couple of dollars.

You people have probably never donated or purchased a donate version of a free app. You just take what you can get and then complain when you can't get more. Don't forget that the people who develop software are people. They do it in their free time, or as their job. Either way they are entitled to compensation and gratitude if you want to use their software.

Facebook runs off a completely different monetization system. The more people that use FB, the more money FB makes. Its in every interest to provide as many access points to FB services as possible. More people using FB more often means more money. A launcher does not work on this monetization model. Anderwebs doesn't gain income the more you use ADW Launcher, nor does Fede with LP. They make money off the initial sale, and that's it.

On my Fascinate, I've tried TouchWiz, Launcher Pro (paid), ADW, Go and Launcher7. While they all have their strong points, ADW is hands down the best for me. It does most everything I need in a launcher. I can switch to a horizontal app drawer, easily customize icons, change themes, hide bloatware, add extra app rows, etc. Overall, a great experience. I'm super stoked about version 2.

well if its up to the developer to provide anthing more then bug fixes in their app or to make a completely new app and make people pay every time for the same app then i'll stick with launcher pro plus since its basically the same app with different features and he only had us pay once for all the extra features plus exclusive launcher pro widgets
