DROID3 Poses Again, This Time With Keyboard Showing

The DROID3 made a surprise public appearance this morning and apparently wasn’t done.  A lot of of us were wondering how its keyboard would look under what appears to be a much thinner top piece.  I think it’s safe to say that we now know.  Five rows of fun, with an HDMI port just below it on the side.  Slap a stock Google Experience on this phone with a 4″ qHD screen and you  could have yourselves a major player here.

Am I the only one who misses the D-pad on the original Droid? It made gaming with emulators so much easier.

Can anyone help with the “tab” key above the “shift/caps” key, I have used it, but don’t know all its functions. and they made it wide for a reason,
I have been able to Tab to a new text message, and do a few other tab functions but I haven’t been able to utilize it, any tips?

  • Anonymous

Really, consistency is all that matters. The placement is all what you are used to. I went from og Droid to Droid 2, was minorly annoyed by the button change, but now it’s second nature. I’m more excited about the stock google experience comning back. Being a launcher pro user I don’t know how much of a difference it will make, and really the motoblur now only gives you additional widgets, feature than the all-invasive devour travesty.

By wasting less space to the left of A and Z and to the right of L, they could make room for an extra key, which could have the apostrophe on first hit. Nokia and Sony Ericsson have an easy to reach apostrophe (see the E7 or the Xperia keyboards), and I don’t see why this nice Motorola keyboard shouldn’t have it. After all the apostrophe has a higher frequency of occurrence than several letters…

They’ve shed the angular iconic-ness that made the OG so badass looking :( People still comment on my Milestone, because it looks different and sexy. How’d they lose that?

Will this be a world phone like the Droid 2 ?

Correct me if I’m wrong, if you run launcherpro, BLUR goes away right? Not goes away, but you know what I mean. So you would take everything off the stock launcher screens and run pro, walaa…

Riiiight? Cus this phone looks sweet…flagship status

  • Unexpected62

I’ve got the OG Droid now and seriously checking out this pics to make it my next one, because I want a keyboard. If it has HDMI out and a front facing camera I’d be pretty stoked to try it out. Of course I would rather not have Blur but if I can root and install a ROM that does it even matter?

  • Daniel

Am I the only one who really preferred the screen design on the Droid 2 over the OG Droid? I think the chin is a weird look and I loved how they extended the top down to cover it perfectly.

  • Eholdenmob

“Slap a stock Google Experience on this phone”
    One could only dream…

Really what is with the chin. I was hoping for a chinless droid 3.

    • Emily

a Droid 3 w/o a chin wouldn’t be a Droid. =) the chin is the distinguishing element, like the Hero
It’d be a Droid (Insert something)

Wth!! Stock Google! HDMI out! 4″ screen! Keyboard!!!??? I NEED this phone! lol. What’s the specs compared too the Droid x 2?

  • Anonymous

why does this not have 4G…thats just retarded. if it did it would be my next phone for sure…FML!!!

  • SMD

Ah yes, business as usual. A rival (HTC) comes out with a new phone (Thunderbolt) and before we get a chance to go fall in love, another company (Motorola) “leaks” out a few upcoming goodies as if to say “are you sure you don’t wanna wait just a few more months for these pretty little things instead?” Gotta love it! She’s a beauty…just wish she was the D2G that came out last fall…then I would’ve gone for her. Oh well. No turning back now, I’m completely caught up in the storm.

  • H0ruza

This looks like a better evolution than Droid 2 is and I’m happy with my Droid 2 so this looks like my next phone.

I’m not going to wish for stock Android because it will never happen but a gig of ram or more, dual core or more, tegra 2 or better and one hell of a battery size and this will be a bad ass. Motoblur or not.

I would rather have them lose the number row and use the same layout as the droid 2 global but spread out the keys even more

    • Emily

I’d rather them drop the number row, squish the qwerty to a MotoQ keyboard so the finger movements are shorter, and add a 10key on the right.

  • Ys4cl

I actually like the keyboard because it makes the phone more substantial. Colleagues have Atrix and Dx at work and I don’t like how their phones feel.

  • Hfdkjsh

The perfect phone? For me, this could be it

  • Kickyindahead

same keyboard as the droid 2 .. plus the number keys .. i like that .. depending on final specs.. this may just be my next phone!

  • benJA

This one looks more high-quality build than the stuff that Motorola is pumping out now. I loved the quality and feel of my OG Droid, but I’m not one to fall for Blur or locked bootloaders, as almost any other reader here has already stated.

Love the look though, and the build quality looks good especially when compared to some of the other plasticy-looking devices Motorola has recently debuted. Here’s to hoping it’s more worthy as an OG Droid replacement than expected…

Its so sexy… but it has motoblur.. fml

  • Anonymous

I really like this as the possible next upgrade to my moto family, og droid, xoom, droid 3… I like it. One question why did moto take away the second alt key and shift keys? That has to be one of the best parts of the physical keyboard for me. Other than that I like it, hopefully it comes with an unlocked bootloader but if not its cool just another step when I go in and instal some custom blur/bloatless roms.

Then you made an epic fail of buying the Droid right before the launch of the Droid 2.
Next time visit here before making any future phone purchases.

    looks sexy
im actually considering this phone as my droid x replacement(as long as it has a 4′ screen though
anything smaller and i will not consider it my new device(plus it HAS to be unlocked)

    • Guest

      Don’t think it’ll have a 4 foot screen, sorry.

I want to see the back of this thing.

I do not like to be a Debby Downer, but this phone will have blur, and this phone will only have a 3.7″ screen.

  • Greg

    See you Thursday HTC Thunderbolt!
