DROID3 Poses Again, This Time With Keyboard Showing

The DROID3 made a surprise public appearance this morning and apparently wasn’t done.  A lot of of us were wondering how its keyboard would look under what appears to be a much thinner top piece.  I think it’s safe to say that we now know.  Five rows of fun, with an HDMI port just below it on the side.  Slap a stock Google Experience on this phone with a 4″ qHD screen and you  could have yourselves a major player here.

Cheers @EggoEspada!

Hopefully this one isn’t glued on like the others.

IT’S GOT A FAT LIP AGAIN!

IT’S GOT A FAT LIP AGAIN!

  • Randy Torres

They finally got the keyboard right with a row devoted to just the digits.

  • Robertw

I thought Verizon’s contract with LUCAS ARTS was up and they wouldn’t be renewing the Droid Nam on any new devices. Example HTC INCREDIBLE. Not Droid incredible

  • ravenlore

Stock or Blur, the D3 was going to be my next device. Notice the past tense. Without LTE, this pretty little handset is a non-starter for me. :-(

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=742189391 Cameron Miller

    Wait…no BLUR????

  • Nairo

    Nexus S 4G or D3 ….. hmmm ?

  • Doc

Does the extra number row equal a larger screen to cover them? I know Kellex stated 4″ so that seems plausible.

Any chance this will be dual core? I’m guessing no since it’ll probably be 3G, but it would be nice. But wouldn’t releasing the same 1.2ghz as the D2G be a bit redundant? Maybe there is some hope! And if that is a front facing camera then maybe it will be 4G…maybe more hope?

But you know what they say about hope and change! ;P

    • Anonymous

judging from the pic and my droid in my hand…that looks like a 4 inch screen…sweet!

Why have a keyboard if it is going suck

    • Emily

Because a phone with a keyboard that sucked (the OG Droid) beat the OG iPhone to 1 million sales by doing it in less that 74 days. Also was the best selling Android phone
It’s second generation had a keyboard that sucked and it also sold very well.
      So…

  • Anonymous

I love the look of that keyboard. But then I remember it has MotoBLUR and a locked bootloader. Come on Motorola, knock this one out of the park. My contract is close to done and I need a new phone…

  • Mth2134

    Hypebeast alive

  • FortitudineVincimus

they lost me with the physical keyboard.

    • Alvinm 77

Huh? Droid 1 and 2 had physical keyboards. Its only right that the Droid 3 would have one. Im not buying it tho. Just saying

  • axxis

added number row but got rid of d-pad.. :/

    • http://profiles.yahoo.com/u/RXFWXDUWRRHCGFV6NP2SDZ7YLU Ray

thats been gone since the droid2

  • Delanocathirell

Well, atleast the keyboard looks better, but still waiting to se the specs. I keep mentioning that Moto really needs to look at HTC or hire a device designer with some creativity lol The Bionic and Atrix are way UGLY and this one is hinging on it.

  • drudo

Not liking the silver rim on the side shot.

  • Anonymous

Looks a bit too much like the other Droid keyboards. Give me some space between the keys and offset them.

  • Stephen D

DO WANT! Please please please let this be a stock(or at least unlocked bootloader) device!

  • Bret

Looks like the moved the USB port. The Droid, Droid 2, and Droid 2 Global have all had it in the same spot, which has been great for me because my original Droid desktop dock works with all 3 phones. Now they have to go and mess it up!

    • Emily

They’ve moved it to be compatible with the laptop docks that the Atrix and Droid Bionic will use.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Chike-Ujuagu/573459005 Chike Ujuagu

Looks great, but too bad about that locked/encrypted bootloader and MotoBlur. That keyboard looks solid though!

  • http://twitter.com/cforero83 Camilo Forero

Aw man, I had an OG, then a D2 global, and this will likely be my next device. I love the D2 keyboard and use it almost exclusively (weird, I’m one of the few, right?) and this one even has a numbers row. Does that little circle look like a sensor, or a front facing camera though? Looking at my D2, its a bit big to be a sensor, so let’s hope it’s a cam. Now if they can only make this puppy global (I’ve loved having the sim option while traveling abroad) and I’m in.

  • Kaufkin

looks tempting… Stock Android (Blurless, Please!) w/ unlocked bootloader, and we can talk. otherwise, I’ll keep my D1, Until HTC comes out with the phone that tempts me, and Cyan / Pete come up with an update for it. :-)

    • Emily

My next phone is going to be what ever Pete gets.

  • Anonymous

stock google? dream on boyz… this will run blur crap.

    • Kaufkin

probably, and w/ a locked bootloader. and then I’ll wait for the “update” from one of the Dev’s, or go to HTC.. :-) *shrug* no big deal. Nice to see moto might slowly be getting the hint on keyboards though.

    • http://twitter.com/royolpunk Kevin Shen

yep. those buttons belong to motoblur

  • Donstpete

A dedicated row of numbers!!!!!!!!! Woohoo! Now this one I will buy. ’bout time!

  • Mr.Joe

I LOVE where the space bar is. I hate phones that merge it with the letters. Get’s me all messed up.

Now just give me a Dual Core CPU and a min of 2GB internal memory plus BLUR and you got a winner!

    • Cucabueno

      Plus BLUR? Huh?

      • Emily

He’s joking. No one on earth in their right mine likes BLUR.

      • Emily

  • http://twitter.com/MaverickVirus Andrew Nichols

Crud! Now I have to pick? Depending on the specs, my next phone is going to be either this or the SEX Play (Sony Ericsson Xperia Play).

  • Anonymous

First Android phone in a while that has ZERO appeal to me.

  • Joeferb

i feel like those keys look like they will pop off

  • Mikescalero

Why didn’t they go with the physical keyboard style of their Droid Pro? This keyboard looks just like the D2, I give it a thumbs down.

    • Emily

Because those blackberry keys on the Droid Pro won’t fit under the slider mechanism w/o making the phone fat, which defeats the whole point of the Droid sliders

WHY do all the phones have the back button over to the right now? It only belongs in one place, all the way to the left just like the droid, it makes much more sense to have it there.

    • Anonymous

all 4 buttons on the original droid are in their best positions

      • Anonymous

At least we can all agree that the Nexus S button order is terrible…

      • Mike

I agree OG Droid and Nexus One had it right.

    • Mlbphillies20

Home, menu, back, search= best alignment

      • Anonymous

Back Home Menu Search = best alignment

        • Mike

          Which phone has this alignment?

OG Droid has Back Menu Home Search. I know because I’m looking at one now.

          • Emily

Previously I thought this was the best alignment. VZW replaced my Droid with a D2 and after getting used to it I now think that Menu Home Back Search = best alignment.

      • Stephen D

Menu home back search or the OG droid’s are my favorite. I like both. The Nexus S’s is awful. HTC’s is ok, but I don’t like it that much.

    • Anonymous

They need to make an of droid menu bar sticker that we can paste over these ugly buttons and then use that application. That kellex posted along time ago that lets you switch the alignmemt of the buttons.

    • SetNick

No offense to right-handed people at by this statement….But most products are typically made for righties. My guess is the original droid was designed by a right-minded/artsy person or people that are left-handed. i could be wrong…just a thought.

  • Jon

I swear if the LG enV touch had been an Android device it would have been the second best VZW phone over the last year behind the DInc.

Looks good, wish I could try out the keyboard, didn’t like the D2′s too much. Still wish HTC had the Merge with 4G.

  • Mlerota

If I can have stock android on this, I will sell my HTC.

  • http://winklerjr.carbonmade.com/ Wayne W.

They do this with the right specs and i’ll get it when my contract is up for renewal.

  • The350zWolf

Oh yeah, definetely D3 will be my new droid… :^)

  • http://www.facebook.com/mobrienjr Michael OBrien

man you guys must of been brutal to your D1 keyboards….I will say after about 2 months I got used to the onscreen keyboard that I dont use the standard one. I do like to open it to add stability when I am playing angry birds with one hand, and when doing passwords.

    • balthuszar

i originally bought the OG because of the physical keyboard…but after using the on screen keyboard, then shapewriter, then swiftkey, and now swype, i never open my keyboard…i do like that hte keyboard adds that extra weight though, so depending on specs compared to the DI2, this may be my next phone

      • http://twitter.com/GoldenCube Toys Samurai

The only time I opened it is when I play game using PSXDroid. I think I am going to buy a keyboard-less Android phone next time.

  • NorCalDroid

It will have blur by the menu button icon. That’s a blur button

    • Adio84

yup looks like it might be born with AIDS….i mean blur

      • Alvinm 77

LMFAO!!!!!! Best comment of the day…

    • Blury

I’ll return to my RAZR before I touch motoblur.

      • Anonymous

God you anti-blur people are such melodramatic clowns.

        • Destin4death

Couldn’t agree more seeing as all the other mfg have overlays also that look like crap (IMO) and slow the device down.

  • Anonymous

    Major Player != Physical Keyboard.

    Must be burned.

  • M. Nelson

Wow Finally A Keyboard With Dedicated Number Keys. Definitely Getting This One!

    • Adio84

guess you never heard of the epic

      • M. Nelson

        Guess iHaven’t.

They look like they are separate buttons, and not just a giant sticker on top of the device like in the OG! THANK GOODNESS!!! I’m on my 3rd Droid OG because the stupid keys keep ripping!

*Crosses fingers* please be dual core!!!!

On the keyboard, there is the Euro, Pound, and Yen symbol. Maybe this sucker is a global phone?

OG Droid kicks this thing’s arse in the cosmetic department.

  • Anonymous

Man… this thing just keeps looking uglier and uglier.

    • Fartbubbler

kroger. compared to the DX and the upcoming Bionic, it sure does.

      • Anonymous

        Don’t forget the Targa

        • http://twitter.com/royolpunk Kevin Shen

targa is just a render right now no official image

          • Destin4death

Wrong, that pic on the float is NOT a render it is of an actual device. They just took 4 separate pics and put them all into one pic in photoshop seeing as a few things need to be blurred out so it could not be traced back to the person who has the device.

Either way Targa will be a beast compared to anything we’ve seen so far this yr.

      • Animatedragin

to each their own. I like the droid physical form factor better than the D2/d2g. the bionic looks like an iphone to me, so while it looks sleek, its a bit too rounded for me. and last thing I want is for ppl to keep revering t my phone as an iphone.

      • Anonymous

I don’t like the Bionic’s design personally, definitely prefer this.

    • Anonymous

I think it looks good, much better than the Droid 2 and the specs on it are killer.

4″ qHD (same as the Atrix)
      OMAP 4430!!!
      1 GB ram
      HDMI port
      improved keyboard

  • Andrew Hewitt

    My next device.

  • Roberto Taylor

Looks like the same ugly flat keyboard the original Droid had… :-(

    • Dreedy Android

Actaully (to me) it looks like this keyboard has alil more definition to it compared to the OG and D2
