No HTC Thunderbolt this Week as Verizon Prepares for the iPad 2 Launch?

Probably shouldn’t mark this Thursday (March 10) on your calendar as the official release date for the HTC Thunderbolt, even though a lot of rumors suggested that it would finally be the day.  According to this pretty Verizon chart, it looks like they are throwing all of their time and planning into the iPad 2 launch which we all know is this Friday (March 11).  Yep.

We’ll now set our sites on St. Patty’s day which is March 17 (next Thursday).  Panda knows all.

Cheers money!

funny I was in best buy today and a girl tried to sell me one. yea I think I have one in stock. I knew she didn’t but I went with it to see how far she would go. with trying to sell me one.

  • Frustrated VZW Customer

I can’t believe that Best Buy actually advertised the T-Bolt AGAIN this week in their flier; with no release date. Pre-sale and then a big add (with wrong price), then another big add this week with yet a higher price? Gilligan must work in their advertising and public relations department!

  • Raptor007

All this slide tells us is the ThunderBolt could be next, should be next, but more importantly ANYTHING could push it out from being next.

  • Drewlaphamster

    This looks fake

  • Zryr6

Exactly. They take any longer, and I might as well switch to Sprint and go with the EVO, since its the same phone with a different name. And here now.

    • DBK

      *Face palm*

The only thing similar between the two phones is the form factor. Outside of that, they couldn’t be any more different.

These type of comments make me wish the commentors would go to Sprint, so as to stop giving us Androidians a bad name.

      • MRowe

They’re pretty close. Tbolt with a few extras, sure. Most importantly, will you notice the difference in your hand or pocket?

  • http://twitter.com/OMFGitsJUSTIN OMFGitsJUSTIN

    YAY iPAD 2! CAN’T WAIT!

  • http://twitter.com/OMFGitsJUSTIN OMFGitsJUSTIN

YAY ipad 2! I am more excited for this then the Xoom. With only 100 apps at launch right now in the Android tablet market, I don’t expect it to be very handy.

  • http://twitter.com/95Sports Matt F.

I love how everyone is complaining that it’s Verizon’s fault and HTC must be pissed. Did you ever think it was the other way around? That it’s HTC’s fault because it’s not ready for market yet and Verizon is pissed? I also love the entitlement of people wanting a phone that’s MAYBE 3-4 weeks late. I’ve been waiting for the Merge since NOVEMBER. So excuse me if I don’t post that the perfect phone for me is ready right now.

  • Anonymous

Shocker… Verizon delaying a device for the umpteenth time… Get a clue, Verizon. Listen to the entity that defines you as a business, and reach out to your consumers. As with any relationship, communication is key. Being standoffish and oblivious to your surroundings will only cause you to lose the ones closest to you. Apple might be the one night stand that gives you crabs, Verizon. Something to think about…

Think about it people, Verizon has been jerking us for years..do you remember when Verizon said about 2 years ago that they were getting the Iphone and even gave a date when they were getting it. What happened then ? Nothing.. Finally they get it and now it would appear Apple has a new B@#$%ch

  • Joker

Thunderbolt is a joke get the.bionic moto always releases when they say

  • Exoplanet

Can someone point me to the official Verizon release date that they announced? Also,by this logic, show me how they are pushing back a date that was never announced? At CES it was 1st quarter,as far as I know, its still 1st quarter is it not? Its sites like these and ads in Bestbuy that give the general public a more specific time frame,NOT VZW. Yes,you create hype by putting out commercials. Yes you can pre-order the device through certain outlets. Go to amazon and see the same exact thing,pre-orders for devices, books, dvd’s,etc. that have no release date. This site and many others have a responsibility to report, rumor, innuendo and fact, and thats completely fine. But when you start creating pissed off customers, its time to pull the reins in a bit and act responsibly.

    • John S Mcpeters

Verizon released a commercial that said the phone was coming “en Febrero”… aka in February. Annnnddddddd as you know, well I hope you know, it’s past February. Therefore, despite an “official release date”, an official Verizon commercial said “en Febrero” and because it is past February, they have failed and missed their “announcement”. Can you follow that simple logic?

      • Exoplanet

So a spanish thunderbolt commercial is confirmation for a U.S. release date? Last I checked I lived in the united states. But I suppose by the same logic if someone in france sees a u.s. commercial for a product released in March they should by all means expect to see it in their county the same day…totally makes sense.

  • Tim242

BlackManX said all the way back in October that it would be released St. Patty’s Day. Verizon tried to do it early, then decided not to, due to lackluster iphone sales.

  • SuxItV-Crapple

*Cough* CTIA 2011 March 22nd – 24th. Hmmm seems like this would be more worth the wait. Nexus 4G and HTC Evo 3D anyone? Sprints gonna do something big in that 2.5 hour time slot. I’ve given up on the Blunderbloat and V-Crapple. You should too. I won’t buy an outdated phone, on an Apple loving carrier.

  • Anonymous

Look at how Apple obsessed this site has become. Despite all of the reports of the problems that the Thunderbolt is suffering from, terrible battery life, etc., everyone comes here shouting about how it is being pushed back because of the iPad 2. Everyone who thinks the Thunderbolt is being pushed back because of Apple is a moron. Would you rather wait or buy a phone with a 4 hour battery life?

Don’t forget that a release was NEVER announced for the Thunderbolt so stop acting like Verizon is screwing you over. What a bunch of entitled idiots.

    • SuxItV-Crapple

You don’t like it? GTFO. Someone has to receive the blame. CES ring a bell? February was the release…shame on Verizon for running with a product when it could barely walk. Its apparent that someone has dropped the ball. Verizon has been working on this phone since the summer. I highly doubt that these “problems” just surfaced, esp with all the previous known info on how 4G rapes the battery and isn’t fully functional yet. Politics are obviously at play here and companies interests are being favored. If you don’t see it you really are that dumb.

      • Anonymous

No one ever said this phone would be released in February. If I recall the only official word was Q1 2011. Stop inventing crap out of nothing.

And I love how everyone around here handles dissenting opinions. Babies.

        • SuxItV-Crapple

It was implied. If you piece all the facts together you can paint the picture. It is obvious that it was supposed to be release a long time ago. Sooner rather than later, the ads in Best Buy and other mags (that lacked the coming soon, which would imply it would have already been out), the commercial slots, etc..etc. If your dumb enough to believe this is the typical time-frame for a device to come out, by all means, pound that square peg into the round hole. You’ll get it eventually, but just try not to do any complicated until then, you might hurt yourself.

          • http://twitter.com/95Sports Matt F.

“Implied”? “Putting the picture together”? What the hell is this, an episode of LOST?

Do you think Verizon is intentionally delaying a phone that they know will sell like gangbusters? The market between the iPad and the Tbolt is completely different – one is a phone, one is not.

All of the phones were announced for the first half of 2011. iPad had a set release date, Tbolt does not.

There’s a reason that all the summer blockbuster movies don’t come out on the same day – because you don’t want to saturarate the field with marketing and focus. iPad now, Tbolt later.

          • SuxItV-Crapple

No its not…but you clearly are.

Yes there is strategy to it…but the fact that a phone announced back in Feb is still in the works and the ipad 2 is on its way after only being announced a few days earlier is complete rubbish. It should have been TBolt then Ipad 2. I know marketing dumbsh*t, its what I do for a living. So save me the 101 talk and get a clue.

Piece the facts together? You are ignoring the fact that the Thunderbolt’s battery life is awful and that they are now reports that there are connectivity issues with the 4G network. Just continue to ignore those facts and carry on with your Apple conspiracy theory. You’re picking and choosing information to suit your idiotic theory.

Thank you Brian. I’ve been trying to get this guy to see the politics at play, but he’s dumber than a sack of bricks.

FYI – Now that I think about it, one of the Thunderbolt commercials said February. Is it February still? Get a clue.

        • Anonymous

It’s hard to see something that doesn’t exist. There was no official release date announced. Get that through your thick head. Some Spanish commercial means absolutely nothing.

      • Mike Smith

I do agree with the Iphone 4 causing a delay. But the Ipad 2 is not a phone and in my opinion is a totally different device. I just don’t see this causing a sales delay with the thunderbolt. I will buy both because the iPad 2 does not do voice. I use it for reading mainly and yes it can do what a smartphone can do but you cannot really text or make calls on it. So I really don’t see why they cannot release both on the same days. Two different product markets.

        • http://twitter.com/binglut9 Brian

yea but verizon is expecting a big turn out they cant hold two releases in a 2 day span there stores would not be able to handle the volume so that means push one of them back and its not going to be a/apple product

          • Mike Smith

Now I agree with that. I do not think that the Thunderbolt sales will hurt the iPad. But I do believe that Apple is somewhat behind the Thunderbolt delays. Apple is very secretive and sly. I know I own virtually all their products. I can see them being behind the TB shenanigans. I do think that the iPhone 4 sales on Verizon are not what Apple expected. But why should they be. Everyone knows Apple releases a new iPhone every year in June. What did Apple expect. No one wants an outdated phone in 3 months time.

          • Anonymous

Why would Apple care about the Thunderbolt competing with the iPad 2? It’s not even the same market.

      • Anonymous

Really? So it has nothing to do with the known issues with the phone and the 4G network and everything to do with the release of a tablet? You are blind.

    • Mike Smith

Your joking right! Bestbuy cannot do anything related to Verizon without approval. Also what does coming soon mean to you? You are definately a moron. Seriously consider what you are saying. Verizon needs to do a press conference on what is going on than being completely silent about the issues. COMING SOON means just that. And this was posted two months ago. That is not soon in my book. So yes people have a right to be completely pissed and frustrated. Nuff Said.

      • Anonymous

Why would Verizon hold a press conference talking about how they tried to rush the Thunderbolt to market and it wasn’t ready, i.e. battery life issues. Now it’s coming out that the 4G network is having connectivity issues. Why would Verizon hold a press conference talking about how their brand new 4G network is a flop to date? You are crazy if you think Verizon is going to hold a press conference for that just to satisfy a few ticked off people. You are “definately” the moron. (How ironic)

I know it sounds cliche… but it’s about time we get together and make our voices heard… I know some say VZW won’t care, but I have seen A LOT of angry posts over the thunderbolt… if we bring them all together maybe they will learn not to do it again… maybe?

That’s funny u said that because I actually did tell VZW that im not paying my phone bill until I come in to pick up my Thunderbolt and the Rep had no problem with that. I find it very interesting that VZW has been running a LOT of ads lately for the DInc. Makes one wonder doesn’t it?

    • http://twitter.com/orfyyn Thomas Orf

I believe that these spots are the ones that were originally reserved for the TBolt. Since it isn’t shipping, Verizon switched them over to the year old DInc commercials. No wonder HTC is starting to get pissed off. If there were another decent carrier, I would be switching in a heartbeat right now. Really getting sick of hearing all of the rumors while Verizon remains silent.

You know since I’ve been waiting for this phone to finally drop, I’ve forgotten why I wanted it in the first place. I think the only reason I would still pick it up now is so that I could get grandfathered into the 29.99 unlimited 4G pricing. That is if it stays that way. Some people are really waiting for the Bionic over the Thunderbolt which I find a little shocking. The Bionic is like the “Red Headed Step Child of the Atrix” Less of everything but 4g and has the dual core, Thats it!!!
It’s either the Thuinderbolt or wait for a more suitable phone that you don’t have to take a back set too.
If you can hold out for a Qtr or tow I think you will see better specs coming out later this year. Just sayin

    • DBK

It’s more like the “Fiery-Spirited Highly Successful Older Brother of the Atrix”. Have you not heard about all the problems it’s having? Not only is it not as fast as advertised (thanks to AT&T’s crappy network) but there have been many issues with the laptop aspect of that phone.

Not to mention, the CEO of Moto (or was it Verizon) clearly mentioned that they were also going to develop a laptop dock/function for the Bionic (as well as other compatible devices). If they can’t get the Thunderbolt out soon (and fully functional) then the Bionic is the next best thing.

      • Anonymous

Yep, I know about the problems and AT&T (As you so pointed out), The Bionic
spcs wise is still a Red Headed Step Child, and though it will be better on
Verizons network, I’d rather waiti for another device with better specs that
will be coming soon. Just because the Bionic is the only device so far on
Verizon that has halfway descent specs doesn’t mean that you should short
        yourself.

3 months from now when another Droid comes out that has more Ram, and better
overall specs you;ll be wishing for that one instead. I am just saying that
you can tell the Bionic is the step brother.

        • DBK

The other phones coming out this year (that we know of) look like they may fall short of the Bionic. Spec-wise, the Bionic is the best phone coming out this year.

        • Tim242

Please tell me how the Atrix has better specs. The RAM is the same, because it is partitioned on the Atrix half for the phone, half for the dock. The Bionic has the bigger screen and better network.

        • DBK

          What Tim242 said.

  • Quad5s

im canceling 2 pre-orders for the thunderbolt as we speak verizon just lost 2 customers for supporting apple which is an inferior device this is ridiculous att here i come atrix 4g

      don’t do it!!1 AT&T service is horrible!!!!!!

      • Mike Smith

AT&T service is not horrible. I have had them for 5 years. Yes the TB really sparked my eye and the reason I want to switch is because the Inspire does not have a front facing camera. I have been all over the US with AT&T and have never dropped a call. I had Verizon in NC and used to drop calls about 5 per day to be exact. You Verizon customers really need to stop bashing AT&T because it is really not that bad. I called Verizon the other day to ask about the TB release and the Salesman got all huffy with me saying that he is being evaluated on his sales and did not have time to talk to me about something that he didn’t know and was not in his job description. Is this how VZW treats customers and future customers. Seriously. Get a grip.

        • DBK

I have had AT&T and have had nothing but dropped calls and no signal (been all over the east coast, no difference). I have had Verizon for three years now. No dropped calls, always a signal no matter where I am (especially when I go kicking/camping), and the customer service reps have been nothing but kind, courteous, and extremely helpful.

It all depends on the area you’re in. Just because you may have had a bad experience doesn’t mean that the company is that way. But considering that AT&T has been at the bottom of the barrel for the longest time now(based on various studies and surveys), we CAN safely state that AT&T is in fact worse than Verizon.

Dear Verizon, I say this with the utmost sincerity..but go and eat a bowl of dicks.

  • Kdegz

Ugh. So frustrating, the waiting game!

  • dude313

Last night a friend of mine that is a Verizon employee, told me that the reason they keep pushing back the thunderbolt is because of connection problems. Originally they thought they had a battery problem because it would only last a couple hours. They figured out that the phone will not stay connected to the 4G network and is constantly trying to connect which is killing the battery.

      verizon dont know shit

  • Industrializeme

This is ridiculous. I don’t see how this can fly with HTC. Two Apple products get announced after this phone and are coming or are already out way before this. The only reason I have given this any interest past giving up is the fact that it is the only option on Verizon that meets all of my needs. HTC, FFC, 720HD and all the other jazz, but this holdup off sh*t is enough. Just another week, just another week…. I say forget this phone, F Verizon, and at this point I’d rather see what else is out there worth my time.

Yeah. My contract ended Mar 4th. I’m already looking around at other 4G phones/carriers. Sucks for HTC that Verizon is screwing the pooch here.

At least the thunderbolt is sitting HIGHER than the ipad 2….

  • Sdouglas3673

I will admit.. it amazes me that Verizon has put the ipad2 in front of the bolt. The people looking for a new ipad and the bolt are 2 different breeds… one’s with a brain an well.. :) Not even the risk of losing sales… Ugh

  • Jrer34

we dont deserve to be treated this way. the least they could do is give us a date or come out and give us the real reason ffor whats causing the problems. if it truly is because of Apple then i will not switch to verizon anymore.

      Amen

    That’s some ‘ol bull……

Just cancel the Thunderbolt. The Bionic is around the corner at this point.

    • Anonymous

If they have kept pusing the Thunderbolt back for Apple products, what makes you think they won’t do the same to the Bionic which actualy may hit the stockroom about the same time as the iphone 5.
