How about voice to text that actually works. about 80 percent or more of my voicemails are complete garbage when output to txt by Google Voice.

you need a google voice number, idk if you can get it from your phone, but you can get it from google.com/voice and voice settings.

Here's something funky. I just installed and set up Google Voice (just for Visual VM) on my D1, Cyanogenmod 6, Launcher Pro, overclocked to 1ghz. I verified that I downloaded the same build as reported, but the menu screen doesn't have the More button, and i don't think it's pulling in SMS with the VM. Am i just fudging something in the set up, or is this a D1 thang?

It works great. I hated always having a new thread the next day from the same person. So I scoured the internet looking for a solution and found this. I use trillian to handle everything now and dropped text from my plan. If someone wants to send a picture email me.

+1 on the gvmax services. These seem pretty cool; I will probably sign up just to have my SMS handled in my IM app instead of the awkward Google Voice Inbox. Here is a Lifehacker write-up I just read about it:

Dont hold your breath. I dont see verizon releasing a phone or software update that essentially puts them out of business. Free voip calls will be here in the next few years but verizon or any other carrier is not in the business of putting themselves out of business.

Is there anyway I can use my old D1 (which is no longer active on VZW) over wifi with google voice ? It tries to work and then connects to VZW to activate the phone. Its a non-rooted D1 with 2.2 I would be willing to root it if needed.

Need to write and article about Google Voice tips and tricks. There are ways to make calls over wifi through GV also if anyone is interested you can receive GV messages in trillian, gtalk, or any gttalk client using gvmax.com services. Check em out

In my opinion, they should have left the settings button there in the first page of menu choices since we have a search button on the phone.
