FRG22D Update for DROID Running through 9/4

Don’t worry, we haven’t been ignoring any of your tweets regarding the status of the FRG22D Froyo update for the original Droid which allows Flash 10.1 to be downloaded from the market, we were simply waiting to hear from VZW.  It appears as if the rollout for the update could last through 9/4 so you’ll need to remain somewhat patient if you have yet to see the notification hit your device.

Of course, you could always manually update today.

Just got the OTA. 4:25 am

I got my FRG22D OTA update @ 6:30am this morning. Danbury, Connecticut.

  • papoose

i just got the update this morning. 8/31.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Shannon-C-Kerr/827781725 Shannon C. Kerr

I did the first Froyo update via download from Droid-Life. I just got the alert this morning on my Droid that FRG22D is ready for install. I'm in the Chicago suburbs FWIW.

  • TMB

One last clarification Will I even get the update given my manual intervention or does it recognize my FRG22D version and pass me by?

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Ken-Chamberlain/1581902717 Ken Chamberlain

I don't know the answer, but I've seen the question a lot, and wonder why those questions weren't asked before rather than after.

  • TMB

I updated my Droid manually and ask for clarification… the update is 100% the same as the OTA version?
I have successfully asdded Flash 10.1 as well and wonder if it would operate more smoothly with the OTA version or is it exactly the same as if I waited for the OTA update…sorry for my paranoia

  • hacky

I just got the 2.2 update for my incredible today 8/32!! yess, in PA

    • Russr1123

This is for the original Droid and there's no 8/32.

there is a way to Root..see reply below…but if you are an Easy Root App fan, like me…then NO NO…there is no Root support at this time via Easy Root…The developer states clearly that, “they are working on Regaining Root support” but not right now…
I believe that was at least PART of the security updates to FRG22D…

  • http://twitter.com/wwwzcouplecom m & j @Zcouple.com

I got mine FRG22D flashed on my Droid by a Verizon Tech in the store after complaing how slow my phone is.
There is a major bug with it though, Exchange Mail app Force Close all the time. They could NOT fix it, and they are sending me a replacement. I don't think it is a hardware problem though since it worked on the Froyo1B version. really annoying..

I updated to FRG22 from an update link posted on the site here a few weeks ago….and I still have root, through Easy Root…works great….I manually added Flash too…..I was told NOT to update to the latest FRG22D, because THAT update removes Root (I believe that part of the “security patches” included in the 22D update were to lock out Root), and the folks over at Easy Root, say they are working on regaining Root access and support for the FRG22D build….so for now I am at FRG22 and manually installed Flash from the site here…
First I flashed the original FRG01B 2.2 update, here:
    http://www.droid-life.com/2010/08/03/manual-and

Then I flashed to update the FRG22, here:
    http://www.droid-life.com/2010/08/04/download-n

Then I installed Flash manually from the file given here on the site
    http://www.droid-life.com/2010/08/23/download-o

….and I still have Root…..DO NOT go to the FRG22D update, or you'll lose root…

  • lakerzz

The new Cyanogen 6.0.0 in Rom Manager…its pretty much stock.

I was wondering because neither me or my partner has yet received FRG22… thought we’d wait for the regular channels….. we’re in Tucson…

You can manually root (and keep frg22d) using these instructions:
    http://www.droidforums.net/forum/rescue-squad-g
I unrooted for the update and then re-rooted–worked fine for me.

  • Travillion

I unrooted just for the update and then re-rooted using this method. The instructions are pretty detailed in case you don't have prior experience rooting.

On a somewhat related note and for those not following Pete, he tweeted that he is working the OTA FRG22D into BuglessBeast v0.5. Just FYI.

    A couple of options: http://www.droidforums.net/forum/metickone/7569
    Or:
    http://www.mydroidworld.com/forums/droid-discus
Both are full, stock ROMs–as far as I know there isn't an update patch that is rooted.

clear the cache data for the market. that usually fixes it.

  • http://www.facebook.com/james.m.pollard James Michael Pollard

it was the official ota update so i'm confused.

  • http://www.facebook.com/james.m.pollard James Michael Pollard

I got the update but there is no flash in my market. wtf?

  • http://twitter.com/kirilv Kiril

what update can we get that won't break root? i'd rather stick with something a stock OS, i'm not really looking for anything custom. is there a frg22 floating around somewhere (or a rooted update of frg22d)?

  • Zander_206

CyanogenMod 6.0.0 the stable release is FRG22D and runs amazing …………………. just sayin all you rooted fellows

Kso, shutting up now I'm gonna explore it. So I guess it is still rolling out… Psh, took long enough. jk…a bit.

  • Lpd185

What if your Droid 2 has lost its Flash 10.1, ok so it didn't loose it I guess I accidentally uninstalled it and it wont come back and the market says not found?

  • Droidboy24

    thx for the info….

  • Fireproof1905

well i dropped my droid 1 in a filter at work (15 feet of water) and had to make a claim.. got my new phone from my insurance claim only to see it came preloaded with frg22d… sucks no one has still rooted it lost my root access… was able to download the new adobe flash but wish i had a choice on what os they sent me lol….

  • ScottK

Did the manual update a couple of days ago and love it! Videos are a little choppy, but more simple stuff works. Hopefully, it will improve.

  • Kunta Kinte

If you have never rooted and allow your stock phone to install this latest OTA update, is there any path to root from there?

  • MOTOX

So im assuming my droid x update is this weekend? or already now like it says on the motorola support site that the guy posted flash back to 2.1 because when u check ur system updates again it will say 2.2 is available….. So this weekend moto? Im going to try it…..you better! :) pls

  • papoose

    THANKS FOR THE UPDATE!

  • RazorX

Patient? You mean half a year is not patient? Better freak'in happen soon, tired of hearing the HTML5 purist smack. Flash on mobile is going to finally shut down the HTML5 propaganda machine.

  • Evermour

Are they REALLY pushing out ota's for the droid and droid incredible? Or was the incredible update an incredible lie?

  • john

Can anyone email me or give me a working apk for swype for the Droid. the one i Dl off here from the forums a while back wont work tells me it fills up all my storage and there was no file to run after i installed it off sd.

WHAT I NEED IS AN UPDATE FOR EASYROOT SO I CAN ROOT MY FRG22D!! THEN I NEED V.05 BB ROM PRONTO

    • An Onny Muss

Droid Forums has a way to root FRG22D. Thanks to MotoCache1 for this!

      http://www.droidforums.net/forum/rescue-squad-g

    • caphoagie

Thinking the same thing. Time to break out the old XP machine and do it the old fashion way.

  • troym

    what about the dinc update?!?!?!

  • http://twitter.com/TravisFessler Travis Fessler

Stupid question: I have the original update rooted with Easyroot. Will this update break it?

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1361943264 Michael Schwartz

I manually updated to the original FRG22 a few weeks ago when it was up here on DL…and I manually installed Flash….is there ANY reason that I should need FRG22D…
wouldnt I need to flash backwards first then back up to FRG22D?
Also, wouldn't I lose Root if I somehow go back and then up to FRG22D?
I cannot see any advantages foe me given the version I am already running…correct??

    • evltwn

those are the same updates. Kellex just made it available here for those who didn't want to wait.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1104422562 Jeff Jones

Ive been running ChevyNo1 4.6 for about a week and just flashed the 4.7 and have yet to see any ota notifications…

    • evltwn

if you're rooted, you won't see any OTA notifications.

      • AndroidsOfTara

Simply being rooted will do absolutely nothing to stop OTA notifications. A rooted phone will still receive OTA notifications and will happily install the update leaving one without root.

        • evltwn

Sorry but you are wrong…I have been rooted since Feb and have never received an OTA update notification. Now there were some who were running Bugless Beast v0.4 and were getting the OTA updates for 2.2. but if you downloaded the update, it was blocked by the ROM from installing. And Pete put out a patch for that too. Usually the recovery image you have flashed (ClockWorkMod or SPRecovery) will block the OTA's.

          • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1104422562 Jeff Jones

I thought I would still get the notification and it would just be blocked is all..

          • evltwn

I'm running the same ROM and have yet to get a notification…been running it for couple of weeks too.

          • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1104422562 Jeff Jones

            good to know, thanks

          • Choffman0311

No, sorry evltwn, but you are wrong… I’ve been rooted for about 2 months now and I just received an OTA update this morning. Rooted with EasyRoot and running Chevy #1

          • Anonymous

what custom recovery are you running? Are you using Clockwork Mod or SPRecovery? Because those recoveries should block the OTA’s. Like I said before, I have been rooted since February and have never received notice for an update. You must be one of the few. Unless you rooted with EasyRoot and didn’t install a custom recovery. Oh well. Good luck with that.

    • droidaholic

you won't see any. the custom recovery or the ROM should block the OTA

  • Mansellgs

    first!!!!!!
