  • Ha, I got mine (D2) free at best buy and I'm just tweaking the hell out of it. I really want the droid2 global, but I'll wait. I still have my original droid that works wonderful as a wifi unit. I'm starting a small droid collection, all these phones are keepers :^)

  • It's on sell thru at Costco and will be replaced with the D2 Global once we are down to 2 units.

  • I'm staying with my Droid2. The global is only slightly faster, had the global GSM/CDMA chip, and comes in two colors. It's not worth me to upgrade. Besides since the Droid X is still around, the Droid2 should have no problem getting future software updates.

    • Plus my DROID2 is going just as fast being overclocked to 1.2ghz. So then for me there's just the 2 colors and the chip. Which I don't care about since I like dark sapphire more than winter white and never leave the states. So its just like… blah…

    • Okay, I will repeat it again – in two months there will be something to trump the D2 Global. People have to work, so Moto will always be coming up with something new. That's just how it works.

I know you said you won't be upgrading, but I think a lot of people who are disheartened by their amazing phone becoming less amazing have a hard time remembering this.

    • Agreed. They really shouldn't drop the Droid 2. Options are a good thing. Having both available would be wiser than dropping one for the other. What if some people want a Droid 2 w/o the global features? It wouldn't be fair to them. Not to mention that more sales would be generated if both were available.

I, too, will be staying with my Droid 2. I just got it and thus will not part with it anytime soon.

  • Eww, who wants a white phone? Bad enough that the Droid 2 came in navy with chrome instead of sexy black with gold foil.

    • I believe that's “Dark Sapphire”. And I glad I have a different color phone. To many phones are black all the time. This is a wonderful change in color and the gold on the DROID wasn't all that. When I had it, I always wished they made it silver. That would have looked better. Though a black DROID 2 would be so bad. Keep the front chrome looking and make the back a nice black, u got urself a tough looking phone.

    • I agree. A white phone would not interest me at all. Maybe a bright yellow one, but not white.

  • Why are we saying OG DROID2? Its still just the DROID2. Then there's the DROID 2G (global).

  • Kellex, you are just breaking hearts tonight. Side note for d2 global. Moto would prefer to build one device for multiple markets. This phone does that. Not just for random travelers to europe, for people who live there. One phone to rule them all.

    • 1 phone with Google Navigation to find them, 1 phone to bring the Android Nation and in the *pple darkness bind them. For all us Lord of the Rings geeks lol

  • They should call it droid “riots about 30 hr work weeks and the government's not supporting me” edition.

  • I wonder how many people see a device labeled “Global” or “World Edition” and pass on by without looking at it. Unless you travel abroad I don't see much interest from the average consumer. If it was up to me I'd put the D2 and D2 Global on display side by side. One might draw attention to the other.

    • Agreed. The Global is not really a must have, unless you travel a lot (which many of us don't). The OG Droid 2 is a very good phone and needs to stay. I am quite happy with mine, and don't plan on parting with it anytime soon.

I think that discontinuing the OG Droid 2 (if the rumors are true) would be a little unwise. The best thing about Verizon is it's variety, and reducing said variety may come back to haunt them in the future. They already screwed themselves with the rebate change for the Droids, and they are going to continue digging that hole if the rumors are true.

    • That was just October. This month and I think through Christmas, it's buy one get one for $1 for new and buy one get one 50% for upgrades. And some smartphones are 50% off on the weekends (if you just want one), but not sure which ones. Obviously this is all with a 2 year contract.

  • if you click on where it says “droid 2 by motorola” it'll take you to the spec sheet for the droid 2, at which the 360 of the droid 2 still works
