I have an iPad4 I can still return, was thinking of doing so to upgrade to 128gb but now this has me thinking twice about doing so. I’ve had Archos products in the past, their initial 4.7 display model was actually pretty good although at that time you had to pay extra for the codec allowing you to play MP4 video file. Don’t know if that’s still the case ($40 extra). I like the expandable memory including usb host support via OTG. The 8gb onboard memory isn’t great but with so many options wouldn’t be a deal breaker. Gee, if I returned my iPad I could get two of these! (Assuming quality turns out to be good I probably will.)

I’m not an Archos apologist but you do realize that they don’t skin their tablet. It’s pretty barebones Android. Their media player app is actually pretty good.

Just because iPad did it first should not make it off limits. Web browsing and content consumption is better in 4:3 and 4:3 is more “rotatable”. 16:9 is better for widescreen movies and smartly built apps that take advantage of the real estate for tools and controls managed on one side leaving the core body to make… a 4:3 ratio. Once that design becomes the norm for apps, the wide format will prevail as widescreens did over the traditional 4:3 monitors.

I think this is a win for Android not because it mimics the traditional iPad ratio, because it further expresses Android’s capacity for variation. Props to Archos.

No. Because they look exactly like iPads. All tablets are rectangle. These are the only ones that look exactly like iPads (aside from iPads).

The back of the thing is same looking aluminum with the same bevel.

The front is 4:3 and the bezel looks to be exactly the same size (even is thinner on the sides than it is on the top and bottom).

Front-facing camera hole is the exact same size.

Back-facing camera placement and look is the same.

Screen resolution is exactly the same.
