Ice Cream Sandwich Update Finally Approved for Verizon’s Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1

Along with word that Verizon’s Galaxy S3 is about to receive its first update, we are pleased to announce that the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 with 4G LTE on Big Red is also set to receive an update. How does Ice Cream Sandwich, sound? We know that many of you have been waiting patiently for this update, especially after seeing he WiFi version received it a couple of weeks ago.

The update brings you to Android 4.0.4, includes pinch-to-zoom from your home screen, Google Plus integration, an update Quick Panel, data monitoring, a redesigned gallery app with photo editor, all new camera capabilities, and WiFi direct support. It’s a big one, folks.

No word yet on when this update will start to rollout, but we’d assume that it could happen any day. When Verizon approves these things, we tend to see them in a matter of days. Let us know if it pops up on your device!

The update is 248MB in size. More info.

Im sorry for all you who lost a great phone. Thats why I never upgrade until I’ve read at least a months worth of reviews. You can’t go back. I still have a great stratosphere and now will never update it.

  • iwantupdates

I am overseas and using the WiFi connection on my LTE device – will I still get the update?

  • Zach Armstrong

When I first saw the update I thought ICS was finally coming to the Droid Incredible 2.

Grrrr.. I have a Google alert set for “HTC Incredible 2 Ice Cream
Sandwich” and your reply triggered it. Talk about getting my hopes up!

      • Zach Armstrong

I’m sorry that my comment triggered you Google Alert.

      • Phil

That is annoying. Because, as an HTC Incredible 2 owner, I have been looking for that Ice Cream Sandwich updateI, I can’t wait until I see the words “HTC Incredible 2 Ice Cream Sandwich Update has arrived.” That will be awesome.

  • summit1986

When will people realize the only solution is to root? We all know relying on Verizon to push updates is a lost cause. Why wait for ICS when you can flash JB today?

    • http://www.facebook.com/bmyton Ben Myton

Because we like to use the 4gLTE that we paid for?

      • summit1986

I’m missing something… Why wouldn’t you be able to?

        • greenbacks

do you own a GTab 10.1 4g lte and rooted it? no ROM for this devise has working 4g lte or camera.

          • summit1986

Well that sucks. +1 for wi-fi tethering from my Nexus.

  • kfath1978

Maybe I will start using it again after the update….been collecting dust since I picked up the Nexus 7.

Saw “Ice Cream Sandwich Finally Approved for Verizon’s…” and got excited for my Thunderbolt. I’m seriously debating bringing my phone, and a HUGE driver into the nearest Verizon, teeing that sucker up, and sending it into speeding (in a million tiny pieces) into the nearest HTC display.

: gets excited : Oh wait nevermind not for the Bionic :(

  • Buckoman

    Pathetic, Verizon.

    Step it up.

  • UrDoGG

    Verizon is an effing joke.

  • Bionic

Why isn’t this website reporting that the final version of the Bionic ICS update has been pulled from a rollout server which indicates its finally happening. Soak test could happen over the weekend come on Kellex give Bionic some love.

I feel like Verizon’s Android update department has a staff of one. He is an old man whose desk is in the basement next to the furnace. That has got to be the only explanation as to why it takes so long for these updates to roll out on Verizon.

I’m still waiting for the ICS update to be pushed to my Xyboard 8.2.

Yes, I’m one of the guys that bought one and I love it.

    • beepboop

      Same here.. come on Verizon!

      • Derek Ross

In fairness, the Xyboard came out a bit after the 4G G-tab 10.1. I’ve owned my 4g 10.1 for 17 months and they were out a couple months before that IIRC. Still, both are LONG overdue for these upgrades.

        • http://twitter.com/morpheus282 William

You’re correct, but the 10.1 update is supposed to be live right now. I just spoke to Verizon tech support on a different issue and asked when the ICS update would be live for my 8.2 because of some intermittent issues that are supposed to be corrected by it. I was told that 10.1 is ready to go but that Motorola doesn’t have the 8.2 update for the 4G model ready yet.

          • Derek Ross

Well it’s not “live” right now because we don’t have it yet, but yeah it sounds like it should be soon. It’s just ridiculous that both the VZW G-tabs and Xyboards haven’t been updated yet but they are still sold new at VZW and these things aren’t cheap.

I posted in another thread how frustrating it is being 2 OS releases behind on a device that is still sold new at VZW for $630 + tax + 2 year data plan, purchased…17 months ago? 17 months is a long time to go without any support for a device STILL on the shelves at VZW… they did give us a version of TouchWiz like a year ago, yeah… thanks Samsung/VZW. I don’t see how they can be selling any of these things anymore, the hardware specs aren’t absolutely terrible but are outdated, but Honeycomb?!? That’s just silly.

I’m hoping I can get some browser stability with this upgrade. My stock browser crashes virtually every session at least once. Yeah I know there are other browsers and I have them, but I like a few features of the stock browser and just because there are options on the market doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be held accountable for the crap honeycomb browser. I have a Nexus 7 and have liked Chrome as much as I have used it, seems a lot more stable.

          • http://twitter.com/morpheus282 William

When I referred to the 10.1 update being live, I meant the Xyboard, not the G-tab. My fault for not being clear on that. I agree with you completely that Verizon, Samsung, Motorola need to get off their butts and get updates to any of the devices that are currently on the shelf. If something has gone end of life then I understand why updates aren’t being delivered, but we paid a rather high price for these things and we should get updates in a reasonable amount of time.

  • zizzybaloobah

So does that preclude any possibility of the Bionic ICS update happening this weekend (as has been rumored)?
