Wednesday Poll: Favorite Announcement From Google I/O Day 1?

Now that day 1 of Google I/O has just about wrapped, we would love to hear your thoughts on everything that you saw. What blew you away today? Was it Jelly Bean? The Nexus 7 tablet? Maybe even the drone-line Nexus Q? Will anything ever top the Project Glass demo that Sergey Brin, skydivers, biker riders, and wall scaling maniacs put on? There was a lot to take in, hopefully you were able to follow along during our coverage.

Let us know what has you most excited!

  • Tyler

I can’t wait for JB, those performance improvements will be great! Not to mention all the other great improvements!

  • Technician199

Google Now looked great. Also Project Butter. Let’s just simplify things and say Jelly Bean overall is my favorite.

  • shamu11

    smart graph searching!

  • Knlegend1

Nexus 7 by default. Even if it had ICS on it.

  • danny

    the jelly bean leak

  • Easy… Project Butter!

  • Anthony White

I don’t see a poll, but I’d have to got with Nexus 7.

  • tomgillotti

Is there a video of the project glass demo?

  • Voice search and making the OS way smoother … Like Butter …Lol

  • Alexander Garcia

Project Butter and Offline Voice and on heck… pretty much all the Jelly Bean updates and enhancements.

  • SeanBello

    easily Jelly Bean

  • psynpo

    Go jellybean yaya

  • jon7876

STOP WITH THE FAKE POLLS!!!!!! I dont see any chart results!!! STOP!!’

  • Mei

    Offline Voice Recognition.

  • MrWicket

I have to pick one?! 😉

    All the Jelly Bean updates!

    • LionStone

I know huh! I couldn’t have just one favorite, so i mentioned 3 and hell, I may as well throw in Map update, offline cacheing! And we got that now. My buddy text me and said what answer does Google have for Apple Maps. And I replied, “answer”? Apple Maps isn’t even out yet. Nice one Google!

      • MrWicket

I don’t even think Apple was a question for Google to answer too lol!

  • NicholasMicallef

Not sure whether Nexus 7 or JellyBean (which probably will only make it to my SGS II as CM10). Not sure how good Nexus 7 will be in Europe, especially since none of the services from the play store are available where I live (apart from the app store)

  • pd240

    Nexus 7 and Jelly Bean

  • Project Butter. The Apple interface has always seemed more smooth. I am not talking about lag, just smoother. I’ve been trying to put my finger on it and I think Google has solved the problem with project butter.

  • teleclimber

For me it’s the PDK, hands down. Everything else might as well not exist since most people don’t get updates to their phones until they upgrade (every 2 years at best).

  • Hayden Hawk

“Smart app updates is a new feature of Google Play that introduces a better way of delivering app updates to devices. When developers publish an update, Google Play now delivers only the bits that have changed to devices, rather than the entire APK. This makes the updates much lighter-weight in most cases, so they are faster to download, save the device’s battery, and conserve bandwidth usage on users’ mobile data plan. On average, a smart app update is about 1/3 the sizeof a full APK update.”

With the Data Share Plans being forced on people I thought this was a great new feature that will help people conserve data while still having the latest version of their favorite apps.

    • MikeCiggy

One thing I see Google doing and no one else giving a crap about it is trying to help us manage and conserve our data usage. They seem to actually care about the consumer are are trying to protect us from the carriers.

    • oh man, I forgot about the APK updating….very cool

  • Ryan Powell

As I ended up pre-ordering the Nexus 7 I have to give that my vote.

  • nsnsmj

    Everything about Jelly Bean

  • zmberven

  • smoothness

  • for **** sake, there is no poll, so stop calling this a poll

  • nightscout13

Jelly Bean 4.1 enhancements, such as: Butter, Gallery improvement, Offline Voice.

  • moelsen8

the growing nexus army being sold through google is my favorite announcement. this is what they need to do to take control back.

    • jaymonster

Now that I will be paying full price for phones to keep my unlimited data, I am liking this as well. Right to the source and avoid the BS that is the VZW delays

    • moelsen8

down votes, really? must be razr owners… i kid, i kid 🙂

  • Sven Enterlein

I have no concrete idea why but the announcement of Jelly Bean and seeing the Nexus 7 in action wants me to have both…. However, that Nexus Q thing is a waste of space

    • moelsen8

      edit: delete this duplicate please.

i really hate both new and old disqus.

    • moelsen8

nexus Q is awesome.. for like $100. for $300, it’s way too overpriced to have a chance at becoming a success.

      • Sven Enterlein

Agreed. A good price can make things much more attractive!

      • RedPandaAlex

Disagree. The whole thing should be baked into Google tv

        • moelsen8

YES!!! This! Exactly what I was thinking as I watched it. This should be Google TV too, right? It’s connected to your TV and speakers.. what the hell?

  • AndroJohn

    Where’s the poll?

  • andrew galvin

    nexus 7

  • FortitudineVincimus

Jelly Bean (though we all knew it was coming) was most useful and valuable to me.

The tablet is lame and really rather run of the mill other than it having JB.

That Nexus Q is a full on price rip off. Please.

New movies, shows and magazines in the Market is kinda cool, but not that big of a deal and I bet wont use it much if at all.

  • The new smart notifications are awesome!

    • Larizard

trashes the sh*t out of iOS 6. Let’s see Apple copy it into iOS 7, a year later.

  • Travis Shepherd

I work all day & can’t get to a computer at all until later in the evening, is there any way to see replays of each session?

  • Jack Coleman

jelly bean, specifically the notification center, project butter, and voice search/search stuff.

  • EvanTheGamer

Off-topic: Anyone know if Google charges as soon as you place an order for a Nexus 7? Or do they charge your credit card as soon as it ships? Please let me know if you know! Thanks!

    • Dc

“You’ve made a purchase on Google Play. You will not be charged until your order has shipped.”

      • moelsen8

sweet i didn’t know that. thought i’d have to eat the cost now. gives me a few more weeks to break the “news” to the wifey 🙂

        • EvanTheGamer

Yeah, exactly, it’s like, why make us pay now when we won’t even get the item until later? Should always be this way. It’s better. Yes!

      • EvanTheGamer

Oh…that is just too damn awesome! Definitely pre-ordering it now then. Hell yeah!

    • they actually do check with your credit card company to make sure the info is valid. i have 2 pending charges: $1 for the check and $227 for the device. we will see if it goes away soon

source: i typed in the wrong address and was declined at first

      • EvanTheGamer

So in other words, Google charged you a $1 authorization fee, but not the full amount of the device?

  • NemaCystX

Jellybeans features, Google Now and the new Voice Search improvements there might be more but those are the ones that stuck out most to me.

  • I’m excited about having the sudden ability to skydive when wearing Glass. Well worth $1,500.

  • Jelly Bean in a Nexus 7 = best of the day

  • EvanJ2462

    Nexus 7

  • EvanTheGamer

Jelly Bean, Nexus 7 price and release date, live skydiving demo(greatest live demo ever!) of Google Glasses!!

  • kidheated

I know its off topic, but anyone else want one of those android jars?

    • Cowboydroid

      I’d buy one. Or five.

  • I’ll wait to see what kind of development happens with the tablet. Then it shall be decided.

  • Chris

    Well….i mean….wat i really liked…fsdiukjgbskdajfgvjlwkdilk EVERYTHING!

  • Duh Nexus 7 me like

  • DigitalDK

We’re expected to choose?! You’re just sick Kellex!

“Which child would you like to save? MUAHAHAHA”

    • eddieonofre

      lol +11235813 for you Sir

    • brando56894

There was so much stuff that was announced I can’t remember it all! The most usable things were all the app updates (specifically the G+ update), all the integrated features in Jelly Bean (like Shazam, “majel”, google now) look really cool too but most of us won’t see them for a while, and the Google+ Events are pretty neat. The Project Glass demonstration had the biggest “wow” effect but other than that I could care less about them.

      • michael arazan

I chose E. All of the above

      • Royal2000H

        Shazam integrated??

        • brando56894

yea he showed off a widget called “what’s that song?” which seems to have the same purpose.

  • Whitewolf

The imminent release of Jelly Bean. =)

  • David Bavin

    Jelly Bean, duh.

    • nightscout13

That’ what she said. I couldn’t help it LOL

    • jaymonster

Why is this so confusing for some? It is an open ended “poll” that avoid too many answers of “other”

      • WingLee

They announced about 3 products. I don’t think there is need for an “other” category. No “other” option, no “other”s

        • jaymonster

Really… Just 3. Have you looked down this thread? Jelly Bean, Nexus 7, and Nexus Q. There was nothing else worth talking about or could impress people at IO? So there is no need to count those people (the “others”) that in this thread alone have already listed, Project Butter, Smart App Updates, Google Now, or the Glass presentation?

  • I am actually most excited about the integration between the products. It seems google is finally making all of their products play nicely with one another, and in super sexy ways. (thinking Q, and the google+ invites/integration with cal, and the photo hangout stuff)

    • YESSSSSS!! I’m super excited about that. I loved some of the integration features between Google+ and everything else.
