Ice Cream Sandwich Will Finally Have Built-in Advanced Photo Editing

With the Ice Cream Sandwich event happening in just over 24 hours, new details have popped up to give us a better idea as to what we may see. How does a new photo editor with more advanced tools sound? The icons that will likely be tied to either the camera or gallery app in ICS were discovered in a system dump of some sort. You can see a new FX button and a whole bunch of preset effects for you to take advantage of.  Damn are we excited.

Seems like something that should have accompanied Gingerbread, but we’ll take it now. As our smartphones become our primary cameras and on-the-go mobile powerhouses, new editing tools for photos is a must.

That sharpen button would be the best one in my opinion, i hope it’ll actually work…

I hope ICS is somewhat polished and not as fugly as the stock earlier versions have been. That is my biggest gripe when it comes to aosp.

  • Anonymous

I hope ICS is enough to stop manufacturers from putting their own skin on the device… Skins are my biggest complaint about android devices. yes I know you can root your device, and mine is… but why should you have to!

Im still waiting for video editing.  I couldnt care less about changing hue/saturation on my photos per say, but i would love to clip and split videos.

why would they not make the nexus camera 8 mp? -_-

    • Anonymous

Haven’t enough people answered this question by now? Megapixels don’t equate to image quality. Just because the other manufacturers are going with 8 doesn’t mean the G-Nex’s 5MP sensor won’t ultimately produce superior images.

      • Some Random Dude

Shh! i like higher resolution pictures

Looking forward to playing with this on my Nexus S. If the NS is lacking anything, it’s with the camera.

I am a Graphic Designer and while this is great I wouldn’t called this advanced image editing. PicSay can do a lot of this stuff already. Advanced image editing would be the ability to work in layers, add layer maskes, make clipping paths, and clone pixels.

    Lets be real, PicSay Pro…

    Keep the good news coming.

  • Franzie3

You have to think that with this coming that might mean the G-Nexus is going to have a phenomenal camera.  This will probably be a key feature that will be pointed out.

      I hope so

      • hkklife

I just hope this is reason enough to get Sanjay’s a** in gear and start equipping Moto phones with decent cameras!!  And not only good sensors and optics but decent camera software too!

  • Anonymous

This is similar to improvements to Google+’s photo editing suite … likely not a coincidence

I feel like my DX has the Grain feature.  Maybe Moto is ahead of things.

    • Anonymous

My OG Droid is the master of Grain

  • Illinipoke98

Yes yes yes, Bionic needs this badly.  Its gallery has some editing tools but kinda sucks.

    • Illinipoke98

BTW HDR camera works wonders on the bionic from what I have seen so far.  Obviously it will only work fors till shots since it combines 3 images, but the results are very impressive.  The HDR effect is subtle, exactly what HDR is supposd to be.  I dont know how they pulled it off but it works better than most PC based HDR apps.

    What about VIDEO editing?

    • http://twitter.com/Rocko9999 Rocko Smith

      Use a desktop Speilberg.

      • Anonymous

personally extra features on the phone are something I would like to have…

      • SugaShane

^Comment of the year right here.

      • http://www.facebook.com/jimmy.moceri Jimmy Moceri

Why the eff would I need a desktop to do simple video editing, especially when the iPhone has multiple apps that do this? No reason Android can’t. You make it sound like you never want to see new features on your device ever again, like it’s perfection right now. Open your mind a bit, things can progress and get better

    • Anonymous

I have to say it would be nice to be able to “crop” in time dimension videos.

      • Anonymous

That is the only video editing feature I could imagine doing on the phone and would come in handy on a somewhat regular basis.

        • http://www.facebook.com/jimmy.moceri Jimmy Moceri

iMovie on the iPhone has a lot of nice video editing features, no reason Android phones can’t incorporate the same, if not better, features

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Ab-Gar/538974072 Ab Gar

that would be the most simple.. but they could incorporate single layer video editing with auto fades when you drag one clip on top of another.. something like a really simplified sony vegas.

    • JohnHepp

lol come here often?  What’s up up Jimmy?  Just wanted to let you know I see you :-)

Haha I do come here often, who is this though?

the anticipation is killing me. praying and hoping for an october release

    • http://twitter.com/myermenson Michael Yermenson

If they announce tomorrow that its releasing this month, I will wet my pants.

      • Doug

        I’m holding you to that…

      • http://profiles.google.com/adamtruelove Adam Truelove

In Verizon’s MAP table, the release date was listed as Nov. 10th.  That will most likely be the release date.  You’ll have to wait just a few more weeks.  As for support on other carriers, no one really know when that’s going to happen.

        • http://twitter.com/myermenson Michael Yermenson

          I know, I saw that, I’m just dreaming….

        Kind of a win/lose/win situation, right there…

        • Anonymous

Win – ICS is coming out
          Lose – I peed myself
Win - Both make me feel warm

Is this what you meant by win/lose/win?

          • Anonymous

            That works!  :o)

    Yay

my friend’s step-aunt makes $70/hour on the computer. She has been unemployed for 5 months but last month her pay was $7740 just working on the computer for a few hours. Read about it on this web site MakeCash1.com

OMG that sounds awesome And incredibly believable. Your name is Jenna, I bet you are hot too!! Sign me up!

    • Anonymous

That’s odd, what phone do you have. Every phone has Gingerbread roms.

    • http://ryocentral.info Ryo

It’s not a problem. It hasn’t been released by now.
So please, everyone, hold your complaints at least as long as Ginderbread is the newest version. ICS will be around in the 2nd part of November.

Can we have maybe some better Picasa integration to go with it?

    • Anonymous

Yes, without that 3d gallery which sucks when you have a ton of picasa albums.  Or at least vastly improved.
